I AM A PROUD GREEK SUNDIAL
I only tell of sunny hours historically,
And go back to when I was built,
Fifty years before Christ was born,
Have been renovated and rebuilt!
My name is Tower of the Winds,
I live in Agora, Athens Greece,
I live at the summit, on top,
Tell time and season, quite an eyepiece
Lord Elgin attempted to remove me from
Greece and take me to Britain but failed,
But I the sundial perched high above,
Stand proud as Elgin’s actions were curtailed!

It's about how many cars I didn't hit
How many tickets I didn't get
The pale blue sky
Sweet things that make me cry
Feeling great
Not filled with hate
My man
And all of our plans
Our little paradise in the woods
Elgin Local Goods
Precious amazing wonderful things
He continuously brings
Beautiful grand babies
Even the ifs why's and maybes
Money in the mail
Makes the end of the day just swell
Music that moves my soul
From world beat to rock and roll
go organic non-GMO homemade
No need for tirade
The many many choices
To glean from all the voices
The family and the kin
Driving me crazy now and again
The thousands of miles
Remembering to smile
Collecting friends
Some fade some remain to the end
Noticing the kindness of a stranger
That defuses the anger
Cherishing a glass of fine wine
Can take me back to a time
Of partying out back
And running with a pack
When the wine was not so fine
But having a hell of a time
Desire to celebrate
Not castigate
Hoping for patience with the masses
Seeing with more than my glasses
Accepting me
Just as I be

A sweeping truck came down my street today;
its brooms and brushes whirling on the ground.
Wetting the pavement and making thin mud.
Gathering stones, dirt, lost buttons and leaves.
Up and down the street blocks and along the roads.
Gathering sand from the winter and from people who litter.
And every mile or two it will empty its bin,
then whirl back to life and continue again.
A squat little truck with a person inside.
Driving real slow and pirouetting around cars.
I saw it stop at a hydrant while the man got out,
to lock on a hose so that the sprayer filled up.
Who created these things that comes 'round once a year?
Broom Bear and Elgin. Mobil and Johnson.
Their genius at making parts all work together
so the street can look nicer and neighbors feel better.

A nice, pretty Jewish woman
told me a while back
that she thought Basketball was for Black people
What she didn't realize is that it used to be called
"The Jewish Game".
I passed through a period as a youth when
I wanted to become a basketball player
Well, I am now a poet
Maybe one day I will write a poem
about Elgin Baylor or George Mikan
Know who they were?
They were fine ballplayers
Memories of ballgames
are burned into my consciousness
ONE CAN ALWAYS DREAM!
