Running a fever which mocked her
she took ibuprofen and a bath.
Wondering, should she call the doctor,
she decided on a cheaper path.
She called the diner on the third floor,
ordered pizza (she cannot resist ‘em).
Oven-baked in a shop just next door,
“Deliv’ry in thirty.” - What a system!
An earache had now come upon her,
she applied some oil of oregano.
No cash! hopefully her check they'll honor
doorbell rings, duty calls, “It’s DiGiorno!”
Noting the nuanced aroma, guy smiled,
“Is that oregano I smell in New York?
Then he begged for a piece, like a child,
but she chased him from her flat with a fork.

Feeling Rough
Sore throat, runny nose,
Could be a cold I suppose,
Or could it be influenza?
I think I need a detox cleanser
Turmeric, folic acid, gingko leaf
I'm feeling rough beyond belief
High B.P. and heart attack
Been called a hypochondriac
Gout in toe, earache
I never know what to take
Rheumatism in both knees
That Ibuprofen gel seems to ease
All my ailments could fill a page
My greatest one is called old-age

I've caught a cold.
The cough of guilt constantly wracked my body.
I've caught a cold.
The depressing thoughts leave me with a pounding headache.
I've caught a cold.
My nose is stuffed with anger that won't come out.
I've caught more than a cold.
I'm throwing up all the love that others give me.
I've caught that cold.
My eyes are itching with disappointment.
I've caught a cold.
My body is sore from going on everyday, telling everyone that I'm ok.
I've caught myself a cold.
I'm sneezing constantly, ridding myself of the happiness, compliments and caring words.
I've caught myself a bad cold.
My eyes are watering with sadness.
I've caught a cold.
I have a high fever of restlessness, and it's not coming down.
I've got a cold.
I have an earache in my left ear because people keep on telling me how to get better.
My chest is heavy with the pressure of trying to be perfect and hiding my true self.
I've got a cold.
I can't get better.
I have an illness.
I won't get better.
And guess what?
It's contagious.

Went out today for a drive with a friend
We'll go into the hills up to heaven he said,
Round hairpin bends,o'er hill and dale we sped
When I looked down the drop did I dread.
Through villages we sped, though not too fast,
That we couldn't admire the places we passed.
Then by and by we came up to our first stop,
T'was indeed heavenly, A herbalists shop.
We had peppermint tea and carrot cake,
I even got something for my earache.
Pano Akourdhalia was where we stopped,
Carolines Garden, the place where we shopped.
Soon this tranquil rest came to an end,
Off to Polis, we sped with our friend.
Lunch time came and found us there,
In a quaint little cafe behind the town square.
At the Art Cafe where Tina Tamamounas, our hostess,
Our hunger did placate with village salad and lasagne.
Finished off with tea and 'man' coffee and my Cyprus brew,
When hungry, it is a place we highly recommend to you.
The journey home passed without event,
A lovely day out and we all were spent.

Doris called, "Caleb has another earache
all night he has cried in terrible pain."
Doris asked me to assist for her sake.
Sat down to rest, watch TV once again.
Now in permanent memory~places...

winter weather coming strong
covering the ground all over town
slipping and sliding
soft cushion for the falling
white snow
bare trees
iced over windshields
frozen cars
what beautiful weather for the common cold
sneezing, coughing, runny nose
scratchy throat, an earache or two
these are the pleasures of winter weather
