Around Noon

Shadows tightly folded
into the hour of noon.
Clock hands clasp
and time stands as the stork does:
unmoving and going nowhere.
Venerable old men,
anchored on park benches,
idly stare in hagioscopic squints
at panting patrons
of sidewalk cafes.

A fly buzzes,
decelerates,
comes to rest…
The dog twitches,
unhitches the fly,
stretches under the table.

Another glass of wine sedates thirst
in warm sips.
A waiter trips.
The dog growls.

Time unclasps its warm greeting.
The stork repairs its stance.
The old men look the other way.
Shadows begin to unfold slowly.

And, as the last chime of twelve
hangs in the air,
only the waiters rush about
like buzzing flies.

I Went To Welcome Town

Infused with newness, available script ushers me in
Eyes peeled with anticipation for next discoverings

Last easy bend of cane growing country road owns
Entry to rewound time, fibro cement rows of homes

Palm sprinkled, speed decelerates in sleepy streets
Alluring new place charisma, adventure incomplete

Faintly reminiscent of brisk Christmas road trip visit
First time river glimpse brings excitement exquisite

Quaint little town, family pub, caravan park opposite
Mere steps reveal mangrove muddy boat ramp slip

Tinny two horse standard, - biminis seen as high brow
Fishing rods' supple hope supports mates' bonding, tribal

Murk of shallows turn sparkle, close island destinations
Brown armed boaties lower crates to catch crustaceans

Wander past real estate branch (sole agent for miles)
Owner opens door, pulls me in, I admit I'm beguiled

Offers me a place to rent, sixteen steps away, got key
Forty minutes later, I'm signing papers, - it had to be!!

Two years in paradise passed, an idyllic place to dwell
Worked in the big smoke, drove home to Jacobs Well

First Love

.
the Sun warming my tightly closed eyes
as I lie motionless in the long grass of Summertime,
knowing that my love is but an outstretched arm away,
her breathing now synchronised with my own.
.
a smile breaks across my reddened cheeks
as my racing heart decelerates into rest;
her hand touching my lips as if to withhold my thoughts,
in vain attempt to bury this memory forever in her heart.
.
basking in the oneness of these golden moments,
our eyes meet through the glinting green meadow
as we each held aloft a ripened pineapple;
we had managed to outrun the farmer.
