Meat

You crave my honey-glazed legs,
relish my breasts with practiced flair.
You chip my wings mid-conversation,
While dissecting my dressing,
Too raunchy, too clingy
never quite suited to your taste.

You want me plated just right:
thighs weighed in grams,
skin stretched to your appetite,
injected for volume, deboned for ease.
my fear tenderized for flavor.

Still, palate demands more
side dishes to seasoned
to disguise the ravine taste buds.

I am your blistered indulgence,
charred silhouette served hot,
just a piece of meat.

But my journey to the plate
lasted sixty days crammed,
in a A4 sized cage
under heat lamps.
I cried once. But here,
crying is considered inefficient.
They said my flesh would serve a heavenly purpose-
add protein to your ambition.
But even my bones bore devotion
chewed, splintered and sucked clean.

Midterms are over
I’m coming up for air
now that they’re done
I’ll admit I was scared
- that physics three -
was nearly the death of me.

What comes next?
The Manhattan express
for November recess
some November excess
with Lisa, my BFF princess,
my doughty, NYC adventuress,
I’m blessed, she’s the best.
Ooo! and some turducken bliss,
much needed rest and time to de-stress.
.

Marriam Webster: Doughty: “brave, strong, and determined.”
turducken: a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck, further stuffed into a deboned turkey.

Mockingbird Deboned

Ye cursed with too much knowledge,
all fate’s within your grasp
The destiny of all beguiled
entrenched behind your mask

To Thee of grace outstanding,
the rose and bud the same
Beginnings end as endings start
assumptions die unclaimed

Oh Ye who brave the mountain,
its winds blow far and chill
Each footstep placed a sin erased
the moment frozen still

And Ye who share the journey,
all mockingbird’s deboned
Your wisdom marks a trail unseen
—for others to atone

Verses Deboned

While listening to everyone but myself,
failing to take my own advice

I married the widow of dark consensus,
  betrothed to darkness—divorced of light

I followed her blindly into the cave,
where the leopard of ignorance roamed

And watched as the demon devoured my words,
   unholy banquet—all verses deboned
