We remember
That night of horror
When the future was stamped and the cogs were slain
When the execution ground shone red with blood
The blood of the helpless cogs
We remember the horrors
Gunshots like fireworks
The cries of cogs like wolves in the night
As devil's favourite demons feed on raw flesh
We remember the depressed winds
The howling of the tortured winds
The breeze of grief. Of cold steeled grief.
As the cogs kneel with tears in their cheeks
Hands grasping the blood stained shield
Songs of hope in their trembling lips.
Fire! The only noise from the blood crazed hunters
As more cogs fall on the blood soaked floor.
Mother's in pain
Father's groaning inward
Siblings gathered around the dining table
Waiting for the blood filled dinner plate.
We remember the silence
The blood thick silence
The howls of the winds
As it whispers "gory" "gory".
We Shall Not Forget.

I cannot think of the dead anymore
nor travel far into the starry night.
I recall everything in off-white detail;
days are caught in grinding cogs.
This past year, and this New Year
are already ground-up as fine
as any raw, marrow-minced hope,
a dish that will be served tomorrow,
but only as a takeaway
as we drive through - mouths tight shut.
Nevertheless we will eat, we will peer
over the rim of our nightmares,
but not travel long into twilight
in case the dawn finds us
not daring to breathe.

The roosters crowed the yellow sun up
To rest behind a cloud
The poet enjoyed her morning cup
And quiet which was not loud
Sounds of nature and man increase
Song birds in the oak tree
Doves coo at a distance then cease
A car's motor disturbs the peace
A neighbor's dog visits me
One where the tail wags the dog
Quietly lies on the porch with fleas
Interfering with brain's cogs

A distant fire glows
out on the horizon
spreading further as it grows
Early morning nature rises
calls as birds stir twittering
Day breaks
crisp chilled air fresh on the lungs
Cats stalk through gardens
as news paper round girls and boys cycle on by
Dogs bark disturbed
by familiar letter box rattles
A couple of car doors close
first engines started for the day
all indicates beginning of daily rat race
and slowly home by home emerges
adding to numbers and noise
Smog starts to lift
Smells of fuel spoil the airs quality
Industry booms mechanically back to life
and once again the process of life carries on

You find in the slime of indecency
The rotted hollow of an empty skull -
A mindless mind allows redundancy
Repeated repetitions till it's full.
Cogs in a wheel turning round on a run,
As sparrows share their madrigals at dawn.
The tulips muse about the idol, Sun,
Iconoclastic papal paragon.
Once baptised in the bounty of my birth,
Religion's regal razor ripped and flayed;
When double mothers claimed one child of earth
The mighty sword of Solomon was raised.
A wisp of willow in the wind will bend
As will the will of wiser men who found
The sterner tree is broken in the end
To join the lowly loam below the ground.
