   Call
   and chirr
   of crickets
   non stop ceaseless,
    no pause in chorus
   at evening conference.
    Flock in cheerful assembly.
    Symphony in monotony.
    Probably urgent call for mating.
    Frolic Insects rubbing wings forcefully.

Rural Ghosts

The chirr of parched insect wings –
bible dust preaching
from long abandoned boots.

Baked into the sky
homesteads linger on the burnt stumps
of exhausted summers.

Dander creaks on dry porches,
wardrobes and rooms open
in a denim haze.

Homesteaders planted a light here
then at days end
dug it up
in earthen mouthfuls.
Aprons were filled, table-tops charged.

Out of the back of a model T
a dapper man sells brushes,
he speaks of things unfarmed
the Brylcreem shine of city sights
until she is swept away.

Such moments go unrecorded
unless by chance you find
a strand of long hair
whipping astray on a skewed field gate.

Broken Melody

it's the midnight hour
as i watch the rise and fall
of your breath blend
in peerless harmony
within the cicada's song

i twirl along
in secluded mind
where thoughts fall
faded like shadows
beneath moon's lambent light

remembrance comes
in winded breaths
as i recall
the camber of your body
pressed against mine
in the soft melodies
of nighttide

the endless tempo
with bated breaths
in stepless dances
between young lovers

the smile
with the glow
of a thousand stars
gleaming back
in brilliance
now paling
in fragmented
flickers
of clouded mind

the chirr of bed
as you shift
closer to the edge
leaves me wondering
is this love enough
to keep me grounded
in the distance
laid between us

Premium MemberChirr Chirree Chirr Chirree Doo Doo Doo

The bells are ringing in deference to the songbirds.
Cardinals, robins, and one lone blue jay, I always feel sorry for.
Twittering and tweeting, serenading me, the blue jay hanging back a bit.
Chirr. chirr. chirree. chirr. chirr. chirree. chirree.
One of the more arrogant robins is throwing her voice like a ventriloquist.
I feel loved, revered, honored, included, admired, and amused.
Doo. Doo. Doo. Doo. Doo. Doo. Doo. Doo. The symphony keeps going,
Impressing me greatly.

Morning Song

Outside my window, underneath an eave,
nestlings chirr, greeting the new dawn
Sleepy eyes begin to open, seeking,
much to do now that dark of night is gone

The Keeper of the Stars is gathering
her children onto a cloud where they loll.
Dawn is stretching her fingers out, pulling
light out of golden tresses, letting them fall

Dew is spun into rainbows, clouds, stacked
in a corner of the sky where they wait
Triumphant and with her greatest glory,
Dawn makes her entrance a little bit late

The moment when everything is brand new,
we are given chalkboards, blank of mistakes,
empty of regret, no sorrows linger
Faith in living is all life takes

My Face Reflecting In a Glass

my face reflecting in a glass was small;
the face looked sure, was sensible, yet appeared
to be a kind of abashed, intimidated and embarrassed,

as the glasses add up one, two and more and more
moon rises, clouds drift, and the wind passes
to stir up the glass rippled brim over

and as glasses grow taller
the thunder roars on the flower bloomed field,
the chirr of crickets slowly diminishes, covered with
fallen leaves, then the blizzard, carried by the north wind,
raving through the wilderness where the ruins all have abandoned

then, when the glasses come crumbling down
because of the height of the weight,
my face with the whole of sorrow
from a prolonged time of mistreatment and abuse reflecting
on each and every scattered piece of broken glass tears
to fill the gap between the world of reality and illusion

Shut Not Those Eyes

SHUT NOT THOSE EYES
Don’t shut those eyes
For there in my chortle lies.
In them I see a glaring new dawn
As your beaming smiles meld with the rising sun
To dry up the gore on my psyche left
By the gorse that once my heart cleft.
All night I yearned for your chirr-up
The only hope for my cheer-up
Now that you are here I know my tears are gone
Never again to be reborned.
For my pains you will kiss away
As my entirety with passion falls under your sway.
Shut not those eyes
The ladder to my ecstatic heights.
