Multitudinous bells secern the tones
as may resound sharp bamboo xylophones.
Pulchritudinous bells have rhythmic ding,
others that linger with tedious ring.
Some little bells can echo a jingle
that surely bestow a Christmas tingle.
Quite many bells ting melodious chime
prompting our schedule's punctilious time.
A carillons' unique, harmonized bells
swing from gentleness to overtone swells.
Suspended bronze discs reach resonant gongs,
characterized by gregarious songs.
A bittersweet bell that distantly tolls
announces angelic release of souls.

Its season starts as stores wind down,
removing signs of Labor Day sale,
replacing them with new displays,
giving shoppers no time to pause or exhale.
Blackness becomes the signature color,
with trim of orange for effect.
Exhibits designed to threaten and scare,
make terror the leading subject.
Men with little connection with God,
create scary scenes on their lawns,
using witches, caskets and music--
their houses becoming dark carillons.
Some people splurge and go to excess,
making a ghastly and gory scene,
that spreads ideas to all who see,
celebrating death at Halloween.

A frosty mist caressed my face
As I chanced upon the place
Sitting high upon my load
Of pine logs on this snowy road
Urging Mike and Molly on
With steady strides their carillons
Were jingling-jangling through the air
And mingling with the treetops there
My horses turned their snorting snouts
And startled me to look about
Two bulls were marching up the hill
A cow on top was standing still
The younger Bull Moose strode in front
The old one followed with a grunt
What a pure majestic sight
To witness in this failing light
This stately king of forest pride
His hernial horns were five feet wide
An antlered crown like a canoe
One touch and younger bull withdrew
So urging Mike and Molly on
With steady strides their carillons
Were jingling-jangling through the air
And mingling with the antlers there
If I had turned my head again
I would have seen romance's end
The smaller bull with puny rack
Grunted twice and turned his back

Above the sunken lake of Galilee,
Lay isolated disdained Nazareth,
Where misted in obscurity
Was Mary born. Her kin Elizabeth
Gave John the Baptist birth. But Mary wrought
The Motherhood of ages: Jesus, Son
Of Man, Whose prophesied arrival brought
Astrologers and shepherds one by one
To marvel. Mary, in a squalid cave
In Bethlehem nursed Infant Child with care.
The Savior Whose death forgave
Our primal sin too weightisome to bear.
To celebrate that first far Christmastime,
Let carillons of joy inside us chime.
