The Portage
There is this distance between the lakes,
Through which the waters race.
Such is the land elevation difference,
Too treacherous for a canoeist to paddle,
And so must traverse by foot.
The higher perched lake continuously flows,
And the lower one never empties.
In response to nature’s chance,
The lakes maintain their levels.
Insofar as the climate will change,
The river’s course remains the same:
To reach the ocean and repeat the cycle
Of evaporation and precipitation.

The dream prince was away on the weekend,
The princess was lonely without him.
He will be back she thought to herself,
His masculine figure will caress her presence.
A dozen roses and she wished she could propose marriage,
Usually the gentleman does that she thought.
Maybe that is too soon, they were just getting to know another,
He was a skier and canoeist, she liked sports too.
She was an artist and a poet,
He had been to her art exhibit.
Two of her art pictures had been a present,
Along with two poems she had given him.
He gave her a beautiful hug as a thank you,
Wasn't that a beautiful present from God.
Mona Lisa Sunday and Friendship Days,
Their friendship endured.
What a blessing from God she thought,
To have this gentleman in her life.
When he was there she felt complete and happy,
His good looks were beautiful to experience.
God is benevolent and kind she thought,
Is God playing cupid she thought.

She had a romance beyond compare,
Weekends he wasn't there,
She said to herself he is a guest prince in her life,
Blessed she is to see him now and then.
The dreamy prince had a schedule of his own,
Couldn't get over how handsome he is.
Memories of his handshake and hug,
There he was disguised as a champion among men,
An accomplished skier and canoeist,
She an artist and a poet, somewhat pretty.
Thinking about when he was away,
Did he know how much she treasured his friendship.
A romance beyond care, she thought about him everywhere,
He had come into her life,
Everyday she wished to say hello and not good-bye,
The complexity of love comes in disguises.
We don't always comprehend God's plan,
A weekend romance that is prevalent all week.

Because after he suffered a fractured leg,
Hospital doctors failed to do tests to render,
His leg heathy, so amputation was his keg.
However, he’s turned tragedy into success,
Because having been an amateur footballer,
He’s now a para-canoeist in the KL3 class,
With gold he’s the 2015 European controller.

At the World Champs. in Milan and made Rio,
He’s sacrificed a lot and says that “Firstly,
I was so angry with everyone, everything, [oh]”
