I felt R’s and T’s in our new neighbor's house.
Because they smell like lilac to me.
The numbers 5 and 9 came into focus too.
Five is always blue, and nine, of course, is red.
I pretend not to notice the smells or the sounds
Because I have learned that it is best not to make a fuss.
Not to call attention to things others may not notice.
My mother has been discouraging my synthesia for a while.
I think there is an R in there somewhere Daddy says.
He gives me a look and a wink. I know he’s the reason I have this.
We are both artists and painters, and do well with what we have.
I taste the rough walnuts inside the cake before it is served.
We are sensitives and empaths.
Mommy gives us both a sharp look.
She does not need to warn us.
We know to keep quiet.

Not for one second
You shouldn't think that
Yesterday remembers
The past of tomorrow's
Pain.
For there comes several
Thoughts of losing what
Has been bestowed on
Us as the remembrance
Yesterday caused when silent
Affections smiled intently
At the possibilities of
Becoming the lost temple
My remembrance was supposed
To call attention unto the Marvel's
I set aside to become
The understanding of you and
Justice.

Haunted, Alone Again, Naturally
There I stood on bended knees after I gave up my lunch,
I was in the back of our haunted house, too fearful to face it,
So the back door chose me, as I looked behind me--there it was,
As if I ran back into it, running backward--did not...yell,
I do not want to call attention to myself,
Because it is always the wrong ones...who answers,
First, I struggled to get ahold of myself,
when I realized there was no floor to stand on,
I thought to myself, who is holding me up then, I turned, and yelled, it was my Uncle Joey, but how could it be...I screamed and I screamed, let go of me please you're scaring me so badly, what are you saying, I cannot hear your wee voice, you sound like you're in a grave--you're telling me why?...why, why you say? You're are my mom's younger brother...and I'm your sixteen-year-old nephew--and you're only three--I suppose to babysit ya.

Becoming Center of Attention I Must Mention
To others are many things I must mention;
Should never want to be center of attention;
Relax a while,
Should be style,
And in ranks do remove all of the disension.
Jim Horn
The more you emphasize and call attention to
something, the bigger it becomes in your mind.
The more I emphasize the differences the greater
the distance becomes between each one. Should I
take a micro approach centering on one problem,
defect or short coming? Should I take a macro
approach realizing that each micro thing must
exist together with the rest. I am the result of
my total environment. Cultural similarities are
far more important when compared to cultural
differences. What a difference a day does make.
If I had enlisted in USAF a day later or earlier,
and my whole life would be totally different.

There is no Earl at Earl’s;
It’s just a name that’s meant to tease.
It represents East Harlem
And the menu’s beer and cheese.
It doesn’t call attention
To itself, so all who go
Are regulars or those who heard
From others in the know.
Six beers on tap that rotate
And the most delicious bread –
A toasted sourdough that’s served
With cheddar, chopped to spread.
Some other sandwich items, salads,
Mac & cheese and soup –
A perfect place to go alone,
In pairs or with a group.
En route from a museum show,
No better place can please
For comfort, sustenance and brews
Than Earl’s, for beer and cheese!

Should Start to Roar
Like a great lion should start to roar
Even though you sin more and more
And people you don't want to detract
But call attention to this very fact.
It seems so difficult to do it all alone
Give God a call on your telephone
Here is a message I want to send
Thanks for being n the other end?.

Let me show you the regurgitation
of the mother bird into open beaks,
the canine nose beyond the human range
that savors the rear of its companion,
the spider feeling the snared butterfly
now dancing on sticky musical strings,
or call attention to the feline purr
accompanying the squeals of its prey,
the squirming delight a few days later
when maggots caper on bloated organs.
You can’t get past your judgments of “Grotesque!
Disgusting! Filthy! Creepy! Horrible!”
You are insensible to this beauty,
once having eaten the forbidden fruit.
Eden’s garden remains all around you,
invisible without full innocence.
