I’ve made my choice for my next life
I’m coming back fierce as a drag queen
I’ll be osé and voluptuous
flamboyantly vivacious
in stilettos and seductive gowns
wigs of lush luscious curls
belting out steamy tunes
on stage in cabarets
strutting my stuff
impersonating divas
living life large
as it is meant to be
with a passion that’s ferocious

High Places

The high places
are where the rich and poor go
Venues where they congregate,
order the strong drink and rub the elbow
They come together,
no matter the social strata
The high place
is the place you wanna go
to take a toke or a sip ...
and do a little idol worship
At the high place,
they all come together ---
no matter the time, day or weather
To hear the gladiator cheers,
to hoist the whiskey and beers
To inebriate their personal fears
at concert halls or cosmopolitan malls,
ritzy cabarets or plush chateau getaways
Go to an immaculate high place,
if you wanna get dirty lowdown
Take a trip,
baby, to Las Vegas town
Walk the tourist strip,
sample the forbidden fruits all around
Visit a Dagon high place, if you dare ... just don't be there
when the walls come tumbling down

Absence of Love

Dark wine reminds me of you
The burgundies and cabarets
The tang and thrum and hiss
That spiral like Egyptian silk

Nights that swell like cork
This night, a thousand
Under va single lamplight
In public or alone
Very late or very early
When I write my poems

Something of you still taut
Still tugs still pulls
A rope that trembled
Hummed between us
Hummed, love, didn't it
Love, how it hummed

We Meet Again

We meet again
I’ve known you for so long and I know now;
 It’s always been you.
The time comes not yet but still my road narrows and;
The winds of time blow at my back pushing me along.
Unfortunately the calendar only changes so many times in one lifetime;
 And I regret having wasted so much of my life before we met.
Maybe I could have done more if I hadn’t but;
I believe someday we’ll come up on each other once again.
It’s said that love never dies and I’ve loved you always so;
Hopefully whatever parts you’ve kept of me will bring you comfort;
And give you the satisfaction of knowing I’ll never be completely gone from you.
So until that time I’ll be singing your praises in the cabarets of the great beyond
And reciting the feelings of my heart;
While keeping the job at hand of standing watch;
Until one day I might be;
The first one to say to you;
Hello my love we meet again.

Royce's Choices

a saraband

Folks show'ring her with potpourri,
Sweet Sallie starts her odyssey
dancing up the row t'wards me -
her shining knight with glowing smile.
We say, "I do," and rush the aisle
while cleric shouts with lifted voice,
"I give you, Todd and Sarah Royce."

A hundred nights in this romance
has found my wife with looks askance.
Her first love is, of course, the dance.
I twist, I step to reappraise
this waltz through life in cabarets.
She cancans while I play the 'bone;
we move this way apart, alone.

I watch as dance technician leads.
Resolving what this mission needs,
my proposition thus proceeds
to yield divorce to Roger Band -
who grabs the chance for Sallie's hand.
And valiant knight just rides away
from Sarah Band, dance protégé...

Premium MemberThe Harlot

Mid Uzi shots from vacant lots, which strike and ricochet
A painted girl with flaxen curl (named Wendy)’s on her way
To tantalise with half-clad thighs, to trick again today;
And indiscreet along the street she gives her pride away
To any guy who’s passing by with cash and time to pay.

In concert halls, beyond the sprawls 'round shabby cabarets,
unjaded thoughts of Camelot imbue divine ballets.
