Red paper poppy
Emblem of the fallen
Symbol of the fields wherein they lay
Made by those returning
From their living hell
With broken bodies and shattered minds
Colour of their comrades’ blood
Worn by the ever grateful
Determined that “ Lest we forget”
The memory of their sacrifice should ever fade
The poppy, living where so many died ~
Freeing those they loved from tyranny
A principle wherein loving sacrifice
Buys another’s liberty and peace
“A war to end all wars”, yet not the case
As man’s inhumanity to man continues
And nations send their sons and daughters
’Cross seas and continents to fight again
While diplomats fail to bring the longed-for peace
Mothers weep, families shatter and
Small towns lose a generation
Those who died must surely wonder why
We’ve made so little progress
Why the peace for which they died is yet to come
Peace among men starts with peace within one human heart
You sing the song of freedom and what you think is right,
You protect the things we love and let us sleep in peace through the night,
You pay the price of freedom, even though it costs a lot,
Because you love your country and strive to keep us free,
Freedom does not come wothout sacrifice,
If you die or if you live you shall sleep in peace knowing you did what you think is right.
From Every Hill
By Dane Smith-Johnsen
From every hill that raises up
The Lord can feel His bitter cup.
From every heart that gathers ‘round
The Lord will send salvation down.
In every foe there can be found.
Goodness thriving, hidden, unbound.
Search the soul and commit the heart.
The Lord will help give peace a start.
Open minds make enemies friends
For each conflict there is a mend.
Every soldier feels the dead cry.
While back at home, people ask, “Why?”
God in heaven watches us all.
Whether smiling or in a brawl,
Forced decisions are not the way.
Together, find a brighter day.
Mountains and valleys; desert lands.
Where are your peaceful quiet sands?
Across waters, destiny waits.
And lots of fighting based on hate.
Please open your hearts together.
Let not loathing thoughts unfetter.
Stop warring words that God must hear.
We are His children; bring peace near.

Once again although we are one and the same
One strikes another in confrontational shame
The thirty eighth parallel shows that man has not lost
To discuss through weapons, no matter the cost
Diplomacy with thought, before all leaders speak
Just listen to each other as it's peace that we all seek
It's not just your own lives that you play with today
Escalation of conflict brings others their say
History tells us that no one really gains
Only generations present, will feel wars pains
No care is ever given when decisions to fight are made
Whilst we await the screaming whistles of their hostile serenade
We live in the world of conscience, mans dark abyss
Whilst the majority enjoy the light, peace is their wish
Will there ever be a day, when man may finally learn
To abide by life and decency that decent people yearn
