Best Sum Poems
This life we're living
Is so unforgiving
Reminding us every day
Of games that we played
Choices we made
Dreams that faded away
Paths that were crossed
Loved ones we've lost
Still promising a brighter tomorrow
When that promise is broken
Our wounds rip back open
Leaving hope to drown in deep sorrow
From our very first breath
We're stalked by death
We live our lives in fear
Knowing well it won't last
So we live loose and fast
Look up and the days have become years
We add peace, subtract strife
Find the sum of a life
Discover we've love left for giving
Love that goes wasted
On the bitterness tasted
In a life so unforgiving

Paul
Husband of Sheila, Father of Kirsty and Paul-Mark,
Grandfather of Valentina, teacher, and friend
Son of Pauline and Nazarene, brother to six siblings:
Joseph – Angela – Carmel – Catherine – Victor – Maria Concetta
Lover of freedom, honesty, dreams, dark chocolate, nuts, red wine, and windmills
Patient and diplomatic, but like a dormant volcano is liable to erupt
Enjoys sports, swimming, walking, travelling, reading, writing, painting, and drama
Detests lies, double-faced people, wars, cheats, bullying, and vandalism
Who feels for those in need, the persecuted, and the marginalized
Who fears loss of countryside, betrayal, hate, suffering, and dementia
Who would like to see tomorrow’s dawn, peace on earth, beyond the mountain peak,
Resident of Safi village, Malta, Europe

Bio
Our minds and souls have somehow linked.
Strolled down paths of rain freshened flowers.
Forever mingling to songbird hues.
We spread our mutual seed into forests green.
The texture of our scent. Pristine.
The past cannot blemish such moments.
In the center of our lifetime, a golden pool.
Harp fish splash a silvery surface.
The bottom strewn with love's jewels.
We dive for the blue heart of it all.
A deepening touch, tumbling walls.
An eddy of us paints a lavender dusk.
We emerge pure as the sum of our love.
Infinity plus infinity equaling us.
Death cannot divide the frolic of such moments.

a poem of truth, words cast ashore,
from where lonesome, often pulled an oar,
a bitter pill to be alone,
me n the dog an cat call home,
catch another lover, yes 4 sure,
just the waiting, is a bad-sum bore ...

Even When The Entirety Fails The Wanted Sum
I stand aghast at how fast these verses oft come
Even when the entirety fails the wanted sum
Upon low hills, I seek much higher mountain tops
Rejoice, in blessings of poetry's bumper crops
Treasures newborn by desires, searching souls and heart
Oft joining mankind and Heaven so far apart.
I stand aghast at how fast these verses oft come
Even when the entirety fails the wanted sum
I cast my ink and the paper begs for much more
As old pen scribbles, broken heart weeps as before
Careful to avoid sad-tears wetting filling pages
Reminding spirit, poets are brothers to sages
Born to gift and share Life's sweet blessings in black ink
With knowledge that human life is too oft a blink.
I stand aghast at how fast these verses oft come
Even when the entirety fails the wanted sum
I wake to dawn's voice, commanding compose more words
We are more than just beasts roaming in raging herds
From Life, we may find inspiration and pure Love
Such may come, even if its not sought from above
Hold this wisdom, this truth that promises much more
All true-seeking may find joy of paradise shores.
I stand aghast at how fast these verses oft come
Even when the entirety fails the wanted sum

Rhyme, ( What The Wise Old Owl Once Told Me )
Old Note ( 1975): This week Life beat on me with abandon.
I lost my best friend and death also thrust its
wicked blade at me. Yet my soul will defy its
joining with Fate's blackened hand and wicked glee.
New Note (2019): Now going on record, oft defiance is
the true measure of a man. And in its journey
we may rise to greater heights and see Fate
and Death both temporarily thwarted. Yet such
is always a temporary measure. Death may come
in a blink of any eye or upon a gnat's whisper
in the blacken host of eternally raging winds.....

No man stands alone on game day,
Tho’ each must do what he must do:
Give his heart, his every effort
To make one dream come true.
A long sought opportunity awaits…
To shine as he has never shined before,
To feel the glory raining down from the stands
As he looks up and sees the winning score.
For that brief moment, he’ll be alone,
Lost in a childhood dream, a vision;
But faith and effort and Team
Put him in this glorious position.
Competition, arduous practice,
Learning, sacrifice and dedication;
Aches and pains for friends;
All brought him to this situation.
And each member of his winning Team
Will experience this stirring moment of elation…
Just before joining his fellow Champions
In joyous Victory celebration.
You see, a Team is most often
Greater than the sum of all its parts.
But Champions….such a Team is even greater
Than the sum of all their Hearts.

"The Sum of Us"
When the hearing has left
and the eyes cry tears
like fathomless oceans
filling those contained opines
in their empty vessels,
floating around us,
the interior immersed
swims in the meaning
of fast metronome
caught in the breast,
dancing every second
right and left right and left
the blind will see
eventually feeling
each beat unmissed
the essential never die
we are regenerating
all part of the same
the sum of us
all in one name
the sum of us

THE SUM OF LIFE
The Sum Of life:
Between the earth and the
sunset is a Grey matter,
between your skull and your brain
is a Grey matter,
at times I feel like gray matter;
Everyone speaks and recognizes...
OZONE, or the black hole,
they speak of space,
time, and dimension...
But me, Grey matter
I am the most important matter,
the substance that form-fills,
conforms to any space it occupies.
I am always with you in many ways
I am omnipresent.
Who knows why I continue to shield you.
Sometimes I am mucus or gel-like,
I am despised on sight,
I am gray -matter...
I cause beauty to happen though.
I am not beautiful.
Unless you train your eyes
to see things differently,
see with an all-seeing eye.
You see my insides.
Did you know there's no life without me?
for I am the" embryonic sac”?
I may even be God; The Deliverer.
I am Grey matter, you turn up your nose at me,
shun, and ignore me; Slime I am.
Life-giving, lifesaving, Grey Matter.
Human beings you are full of me like it or not.
I may even be the God in you.
There's nothing wrong with grey,
Gray Matter saves "Hallelujah".
Gray matter, I want to thank you right now,
I praise you right now I never recognized you
but know my 3rd eye is open right now.
Thank you, Grey Matter,
for your slime producing snails,
research revealing cures in the
Grey Matter of their slime, worthy is thy gel...
"Hallelujah" Gray Matter... Gray Matter:
The only matter that matters.
The fact of the matter is
without you, there would be no matter.
The only matter that matters is Gray Matter;
No matter what's' the matter,
for any matter, no matter what.
I will always remember what, matter, matters.
Blood is red, and we see it occasionally,
some even worship it;
It is good to see blood every now and then
because we know it sustains.
Like the sunsets on the seashore,
the unsettling dust of the "Grey" the great gray,
the greatness of grayness is performing.

What if the great Rene Descartes,
Renaissance man of many parts.
for all his fame and coruscation
is nothing but a fine creation
of my own imagination?
Philosophically disabused.
I think therefore I am
confused.

If I could gather every moment
missing you
into the sum of my tears
I’d cry you a river
I’d cry the compassion of the Sun as he lets the clouds roll in,
if it would give us more years
I’d cry you a river
I’d cry the rain into the clouds so that the river brought you near
My tears would flood The Sands of Time giving back your youthful years
I’d cry my prayers into the Heavens so all the Heavens hear
I’d cry you a river,
praying THE MOST HIGH would deliver
me this prayer
But most of all, when all summed up,
I cry rivers reminiscent of times shared,
rivers of loneliness, of happiness, of sorrow
from the warmth of your presence no longer here
These rivers I cry
are an expression of my love for you,
Love that will never fade, never evanesce or disappear
rivers that aggregate into the depths of the oceans
of memories, that will never dry,
though my rain clouds may seem to have cleared
When added all up
I miss you,
Is the sum of my tears

We are the sum of all say I, that intertwines our souls,
Accepting life, as we do take, the toils, and spoils, and goals.
These toils taught, we all must learn, as futures to provide,
To all our young, for everyone, their lives we help decide.
Decisions made, some with haste, and problems do occur,
Perhaps be wrong, perhaps be right, for all, we must endure.
Endurance is strength, and carries through, all of us with time,
Months will pass, the days are endless, but light will eventually shine.
As with all, this life we lead, we’re blocked as we do travel,
The wall before us, can be passed, through hidden doors unraveled,
Clues abound before our eyes, clearest of thought will unveil,
The time to be told we will not know, until wind grasps our sail.
Pushing forward through this life, with all its toils and spoils,
We gather strength every day, knowing of its foils,
But family sees, family knows, family cares and waits,
Our family is the sum, of all that we are made.
