My Best Friend

I dont know how to say this
I dont know how to start...
I just want you to know haw i feel from the heart
I believe in angels,
The kind that heaven sends
But its bin to long now
To actually call u a friend
Your more like a sistah
The ones I care about
Everything aboutchu
Makes me wanna shout
Its hard to find one person
Who is just like you
Who makes you think about the world
Before its even through
The things I love aboutchu so..
The randomness you behold
Like saying waffles in a fight
And making my face gold :P
You are the bestest friend Ive ever had,
You help me calm when I am mad,
What cant I say?
You've seen me at my worst,
You've seen me at my best,
You've listened to my troubles,
Even if they were only tests
Over the years I noticed
Our friendship always grows
Its like a never ending river
That always seems to flow
I can never forget that feeling
I got on that first day
First day of class u told me
This is gonna be a great day
I gots to be honest..
When i left B.A and all my friends
I didnt feel ok
Felt like all my troubles and worries
Were going to overcome my day
But then I remembered that night before
I took a chance on a shooting star...
I wished for a friend who was just like u
Hoping that friendship wouldnt be blue
and...
Wala my wish came true ;')
You came into my life
But it felt like this was to good to be true
...not very long ago
I met you as a stranger
But still...
I took you as a friend
But ya no what
Until i go to heaven…
My wish will never end!
And everyday I dont know why
But for some odd reason
I look at the sky
I say thank you Lord for this Livia
That I love so much
You know i needed a sister and for this
I love you so much
Like God paired us up
Cos we were both lacking
Someone in the world to make us 1
Without anyone even talking

By David J Walker

The Killer came to town

Playin at the municipal coliseum
To a sell out crowd
Payin up to 5 bucks
Just to see ‘em playin loud

Waylon n Willie and a lot of others
Includin Alvin Crow were still knocking em dead at
Back to back weekend shows
At the Cotton Club
While all the musicians in town
went to see Stevie Ray V
wailing on his fender
At Stubbs where Lou kept the BBQ ribs
And the cold beer comin

And Some fool still says….

Hans Haacke's Gift Horse

"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", I question.
Research on this ancient proverb, of course
finally brought me to this aged suggestion:
"the longer its teeth, the older the horse."

Remembering a blue-chip London bus trip
we took a journey to T-Square perforce.
There upon the fourth plinth, we dared not to skip
the stellar sculpture called Hans Haacke's "Gift Horse."

Borrowing from equine pictures drawn by George Stubbs,
Fulfillment for posterity, Hans' ace of clubs.

Readily, H. Haacke now spins a skeleton
which features a ribbon of ticker tape
from the London's Stock Exchange's latest run.
Money and power set in a new shape.

But recently, fate has behooved to remove
this sculpture to Chicago's latitutde.
Proverb's warning: Looking at its teeth for proof,
you slay a gift horse with ingratitude.

John Stubbs

John is from Manchester but lives in Warrington,
And was born on the 12th of July in the year 1965,
He’s cool at archery, throws a 28.25” at 60lbs, ton,
And he’s righthanded, so he has much drive.

Before he had a hit-and-run on his motorbike,
With a car coming in the opposite direction,
When he was 24, he did sports at work, did like,
And so after amputation he found cricket action.

But he needed a sports wheelchair, and not, full stop,
An old rickety NHS model, so he blazingly phoned,
A wheelchair manufacturer, who gave him a job top,
As a sports wheelchair designer, so he never moaned.

But soon, he was talking about cricket more often,
Than he was playing it, even in his nifty sports chair,
So when he was invited in 1996 into archery’s blossom,
He accepted it to make this his hobby, he for it did care.

John was World Champion in 2005 in romantic Italy,
Then in Beijing in 2008 at the Paralympics he won gold,
Having been awarded the MBE for services to archery,
And then threw his job in to go professional, foretold.

In Germany, Donaueschingen, at the Worlds in 2015,
He shot silver in the mixed team compound open event,
And then he shot bronze in the men’s individual alive,
To join the Rio GB team to make his mark, he’s meant!

The Bridges of Stubbs Park

Stubbs Park is decorously rampant,
its paths scamper here and there
like unruly children.

Perhaps its topographical language
once spoke of bridges
for the landscapers have run riot
planting arching spans
between and over
many of its hillocks and humps.

If you are in meditative mood,
these diminutive bridges
can lead you away and home again
in the compact unwinding
of a few gardened acres.

The catwalks of Stubbs park
can connect you to gaps in your life
as yet uncrossed for want of a bridge,
they can lead you astray also
until you figure out the right questions
to ask of yourself,

or perhaps more to the point
they can leisurely pass over
some idle hours
between breakfast and lunch.

The Little Bridges

Stubbs Park is decorously rampant,
its paths scamper here and there
                            like unruly children.

The original landscapers ran riot,
for they planted arching spans
            between and over
many of its grassy hillocks,
            its trickling brooks.

If you are in meditative mood,
these diminutive bridges
can lead you away and home again
in the compact unwinding
                    of a few gardened acres.

Catwalks may connect you
              to gaps in your life
ones yet uncrossed for want of a bridge’
They can lead you astray also
until you figure out the right questions
                to ask of yourself.

Perhaps more to the point
folks can leisurely pass over
      some idle hours
between breakfast and lunch.

On a summer evening
      your long shadow
can walk over the park
              in a few strides.

You may recall then that all your steps
have been
                  bridges over time,
a landscaping of a life -
and just a walk in the park.

Mark Skip Stubbs

In loving memory of our Mark,
Better known to most as Skip,
Reunited with Clegg up in paradise now,
Best friends back joined at the hip.

From thrashing about on his motorbikes,
Revving the **** out them in crickmere park,
To his mams house bouncing with hardcore,
As skip raved away to M.C's and afterdark.

He absolutely loved to spend time with family,
Travelling to raves and cutting shapes on the dance floor,
In fact if he was made to choose just one,
Wouldn't be sure what he said he loved more.

All the stories that so many have to share,
In the days ahead filled with both joy and pain,
Means his legacy shall forever live on,
Precious memories will always remain.

We feel you all around us buoy,
Your spirit will never ever be gone,
You never could call it a night,
May your soul forever rave on.
