The Beast

The Beast ( La Bestia )

You might wonder - who or what is the Beast?
The Beast in Spanish means - La Bestia. The
Beast is a cargo train that travels from Ciapas
Mex. - to Sonora Mex.

Throughout the years alot of people have gotten
on that train. They all come from Central America.
They want to come to the U.S. to look for the
American Dream.

The people call it - La Bestia, the train of Death and
the train of Hell. A lot of people have lost their lives
through out the years. They fall asleep and fall down
or fall trying to get on the train.

In the month of August of 2013, Ia Bestia derailed and
a lot of boxcars went down. a lot of people lost their lives
fifteen were from Honduras. Others were seriously injured
and had to go to hospitals. Some had horrible deaths and
still others survived.

The people know about these dangers, but they still keep
trying to come here. Now you know about The Beast, the
train of Death and the train of Hell. It is easy for us to say
why do they take those chances.

We already have our lives established here. If we go to other
Countries - it would be for pleasure. Those people are very poor
in their Countries and their Government don't help. I think that we
all have the right to pursue a better life. If we had been born there
we would maybe do the same thing.....

Explosive bailando
Curves and smiles
Killing the hearts of the naive
Enticing embraces entwined Mexican graces

Acambaroooooooooooooo
Vive los mortes
Vive los suenos
Vive los ninos

Did they die in peace
Or for a good cause
Do the drug lords have a higher god
Or do tears fall like rain on us all

Soy payaso
Estoy triste y perdida
She left for greener lands
Children left buried in taco sand

Que lindo etsa la vida
Qué triste
Porque bailo sola
En el tequila de mis sueños

Hold me tight, for this last dance, of life

Sonora: the Desert

Harsh sunlight beats upon the thirsty land
And glares upon the limestone cliffs and sand,
While waves of heat rise shimmering, above
The parched loam where the great saguaros stand.

And perched up high among the spines thereof
There broods in camouflage a mother dove,
Whose eggs lie hidden by her breast, her nest
A knitted niche of neatly-knotted love.

Along the desiccated ground, impressed
By tiny running feet, crisscrossing lest
   A predator should see, a rodent’s track
Evinces its unending hungry quest.

Concealed among the stones of brown and black,
Its body hidden stretched along a crack
And waiting, watching for unwary prey,
There lurks a waiting, patient diamondback.

Ephedra, sage and creosote all stray
Along the rims of sere arroyos. They
Succeed in thriving: an exquisite feat
Amid the barren soil and rock-hard clay.

And seemingly unfazed by searing heat,
Up where the mescal trees and heaven meet,
Cicadas make the wasteland throb with sound,
Their many-years’ interment now complete.

The desert’s lush abundance will abound
With form and color rarely elsewhere found --
Throughout one sees the working of that hand
Whose word and wisdom nature will expound.

Creamy flowers bloom.
Distinctively beautiful,
Oh, that southwest side.

Sonoran Summer

SONORAN SUMMER

The river has run dry, its dripless bed is empty, and
Crossing the flower carpet dim and dusty, parched
Penstemon and brave little brittlebush,
Expecting an inundation, stretch in a rush -
Spreading petals and leaves which their wetted
Wilted tapestry of color weaves - but they fast
Revert to survival tactics and retract petals, in the
Yearly drought of the Sonoran summer.

.........................................................

Note.

The desert of Sonora, Mexico, is one of the driest in the world, making plant life there very uncertain.

saguaros
guardians of the sonora
a battalion wafting
in one hundred degree heat
standing sentry on granite slopes
vertical green etches
in carmel cliffs
literally--litter the foothills

rising up the mountain
saguaros fall away

ocotillos remain
their leafy tentacles flailing
like upside down tarantulas
dotting the crevices and shelves
along with mexican oak

climbing higher
ocotillo give way
to arizona cypress, alligator juniper,
and too many nondeciduous oaks to name
desert? what desert?
temperature's dropped to sixty four

at six thousand feet
aspen and maple emerge
a little further
along come all the conifers
tall dark forests of
douglas fir and ponderosa pine

nearing the summit there's...
snow? not snow. in august?
no, not snow. really?

nine thousand feet
corkbark fir and a
couple of spruce
it's now a cool
fifty two

town on top
we stop
baby needs hoody
and hot chocolate

grandpa needs
to fathom it all
fifty miles,
six thousand five hundred feet
below
it's one hundred and three

sky island
not overrated

Sonora Sunrise

It's the way she looks at midnight
not worrying about her hair
shines like stars above us
but she'll never disappear

she's wind and sun and water
a gift of hope to some
but what I see is beauty
in the music that she strums

it echoes in her spirit
her eyes light up and glow
a soft and soothing sparkle
one you never could let go

when the night gets longer
and our light begins to fade
we feed upon each other's bodies
in ev'ry bite new life is made
