Sheltered Dreams Above the Clouds

Flying oh so high above the silhouetted trees
in stark of night salvation comes and floats me on the breeze.

I've sipped the sweet nectar of grace and laid forth all my dreams.
I'll likely fall but I won't fail,I'm nourished by moonbeams.

The light begins to filter through as dawn now beckons in.
The weary stars fade fast away and let the sun begin.

So goes the dance of sheltered wishes, destiny unspoken.
A painted sky will heal my soul and fix whatever's broken.

Tenderly I hold these dreams and see them to fruition.
Above the clouds are where they live awaiting love's nutrition.

Now every breath I draw will be succinctly mine to keep.
Eyes that see such dreams of beauty surely cannot weep.

We stood hand over heart as the flag was unfurled
We were sheltered from the real world
All men are created equal is what they did teach
Never realizing, they don’t practice what they preach
Who said poor? We were rich beyond our dreams
Working to make ends meet, endlessly, it seems
There were Italians and Jews, Lithuanians and Greeks
Puerto Ricans and Poles, Germans and Dutch
No matter what your nationality or color was
We were neighbors. So, it didn’t matter much
I have memories of neighbors walking in our front door
Nobody knocking, just dropping in
I have memories of children playing on the parlor floor
Nobody judging the color of skin
Our riches were neighbors. Affluence carried no weight
We were sheltered from bigotry, sheltered from hate
God bless the children who knew neither hatred nor fear
God damn the people who brought those things here
When there is acceptance beyond what the eyes see
Then perhaps we can call this the land of the free
When there is truly no master and truly no slave
Then perhaps we can call this the home of the brave
We need to see the unity we’ve not had in the past
If we continue to hate, our country can’t last
If the American people can stand side by side
Then we can restore our American pride
When we stand together, again we’ll be strong
And we can be sheltered from all that was wrong

Sheltered From the Storm

Fear not the storms that pass in the night,
for at morning's light only rain remains;
but those that linger in the minds of men,
Gaining strength with no grounding to calm them.

Shun not the rotted fruit, long picked from the vine,
for it's wine is the sweetest on the lips;
but the rotted heart that lies in waste
makes bitter the good that get too close.

Love not the beauty of paint and fine linen,
for it will fade and wear away;
but the beauty from deep within
stays sweet, sheltered from the storm.

And She Lies Sheltered Beneath the Oak

(There was roast chicken too with potatoes and cheese, though in the picture not seen! Before the shot it had been gobbled up...)

A table laid and baskets heap'd,
Sheltered in the deep scented darkness of the trees;
The wild strawberries picked ripe in the elven woods,
Jam in the pots delicious sweet.
Wine's enchanted icy cold, tumblers filled up to the brim,
Been touched with specks of gold, poured from a bubbling spring.

At the foot of the hills, and dressed in black,
I stood there still, and a few yellow'd leaves.
Rising against the wind, a rose bloom twirls in the breeze;
Sends her perfume to the silver greens,
And to the far corners of the vale.

Under the lids, dripping dew from twigs, I watch
The rolling mist that hides her face,
And the forsaken wedding feast.
A shadow falls on her heart.
Beneath the tall oak her secret bed,
The flower simply drops to the earth,
And there it goes to sleep.
As the distant music, and the autumn wind from hills;
Fall into a hush, the final notes recede.

the sponge of the earth

soaks in the warm afternoon

this harsh winter's day...

but the shadows of the elm

are lonely without the sun

Well, well, well, well, this is the story of four holes
How's that for a real grabber my merry old souls
Ear holes, nostrils, and mouth
And one other a little bit further south
My sheltered and cultured upbringing won't allow me to utter it! A––––––

Sheltered Dreams

Babies crying, mothers sighing, old men
In remnates of suits discussing the fate of
The world as they share a pint of memories.

TV blaring, fighters glaring at
Each other waiting for eternity
To move toward them.

Wino breath and preachers death
Knell for those in fear of
Soulless bodies and redemption.

Days are gone, so this throng
Roost in this place built with
Uncaring hands and minds.

Some will leave, some will bereave
But all will have
Sheltered dreams.

Sheltered

The level of comfort.
That constant urge of wanting to be closer.
The feeling of withdraws on the days I feel that I can't go without.
My neediness.
Eager to see you again the next day.
Ready to conquer the world.
These things I only feel when I'm around you.
Because all of a sudden, the littlest things don't exist.
I find myself insisting on your thoughts.
Wanting to feel what you feel inside.
By your side is where I want to be.
My safe haven.
Where my actions speak louder than words.
Without you, I loose all sanity and constant self control.
I cannot fathom God's will to not cross your path with mine.
The more I think of you the more fond I grow with our distant memories.
They mean everything to me.
Your something I cherish.

Sheltered

Numbness comes and goes
Immunity to life, perhaps
Although beauty glows
Failure proudly claps

Tragic stories fill my ears
Things I cannot fathom
So I choose not to hear
My fuzzy muffs, I grab 'em

Sheltered by a cardboard box
Built sturdy by my lies
Preparing for when reality knocks
To save my virgin eyes

It shields the wind of a broken heart
A no trespassing sign in front
There shall be no end, if I never start
This is my grandest stunt

SHELTERED IN ALONE
Between the silence whispered in your head
and what you cannot see in front of you,
each morning of each day you know, but dread,
as if a curse is all your life will do;

you love to love, but hide away from it,
and sheltered in alone, you wonder why
somebody might see you, and stay a bit,
but all they do is look and pass you by.

Deep in your heart is love too seldom known,
it cries out for someone to make it shine,
and I would give my life for what you've shown,
but sealed up tighter than a cask of wine;

and though I know our love could never be
each time I see you, still it cries to me.

Sheltered Stables

Sheltered Stables

In sheltered stables surrounded by straw
The animals await with merriment and awe
The men of wise with gifts in hand
As the Angels descend to take their stand

A baby is born on this eve of night
While one star shines bravely bright
A King is crowned as the heavens stare
And His love is poured for all to share

“Oh Come All Ye to Bethlehem”
Oh come ye to adore this joyful gem
Prince of Peace on Earth’s domain
As we rejoice His birth again & again.

Sarajevo - SHELTERED IN ALONE
Between the silence whispered in your head
and what you cannot see in front of you;
each morning of each day you know, but dread,
as if a curse is all this life will do.

You'd love to love, but hide away from it,
and sheltered in alone, you wonder why

Deep in your heart is love that's seldom known,
it cries out for someone to make it shine,
but no one ever sees what you've not shown
you've sealed love tighter than a cask of wine.

Down by the River, Sarajevo's charm
Calls not for love, but calls for you to arm.
