Resolved Again

Resolved: I’ll make a MOCKERY of death,
metaphoric wake may open my eyes.
I’ll ADORN kitchen walls with shibboleth -
an OPULENCE of signs which look passé.
using words like “Get Up and Exercise”,
“Calories Count” and “Don’t Forget to Weigh.”

I will EXULT VICARIOUS free time:
tasting all those shows on the loss of weight,
eating less, letting those dinner bells chime,
keeping my IMPETUS under corral.
A SILKEN body I will re-create
giving resolution, new rationale.

This year, I’ll cross the CHASM of my death,
downfall of pounds, weight’s passing does take time.

Is It Resolved

The holidays are a time when we hold loved ones close

making New Year's resolutions to be better and not so morose.

With trimming the tree, the gifts, the cards, the good wishes for all

Spending too much time and money at the mall.

Our hangover on Jan 2nd makes our resolutions go out the windows.

Resolved, a Lack of Resolve

 quatrain

Resolved to quit, a collection betrays my dear Mona.
Hers are the ones marked by colorful stain.
Her obsession likens her to my aging Smith-Corona.
It’s coughing just now as if in great pain.

Its lungs store a shiny bobble divorced from Mona's ear,
three of her Lucky Strikes all out of smoke…
My functional machine has other favorite souvenirs
including a guarded flight stub, no joke.

She was a stewardess, last year when I met my sweet “Mo”
and I became her first passenger goof.
That is, the first one on whom she spilled a hot cup of joe.
My versatile cabinet holds the proof.

Mona needs to smoke; she is addicted to nicotine.
Maybe she’ll change brands when I light her fuse.
Two new keepsakes - ads from both Life and Post magazine
claim, “Camels, the brand which more doctors choose.”

set in this 1930-40's era, this piece focuses on the cigarette industry.

The Raven - Resolved

(With apologies to Edgar Allen Poe )

Finding myself so berated,
I muttered something syncopated,
as seething and with burning eyes stormed I forth as on a secret chore. Returning answered well his gall
for I, with no remorse at all,
blew his feathered carcase through the wall.
A wet flannel cleared the gore.
"That's my trusty Purdey shotgun loaded with lead shot - twelve bore."
This I said, and nothing more.

Now when friends, in admiration,
comment on my ventilation
which dost somewhat harshly pierce the wall above that door,
I gift the inspiration deemed
to one whom talked less than he preened -
to one whom since has not been seen,
save in down upon the floor.
"Visitor," I exclaim, smirking – “blast from the past, quite a bore!"
This I say and nothing more.

Premium Member madness resolved

storm clouds relentlessly
crashed on rock bottom
with the only crack dragging
wreckage and carnage through
a trapdoor into oblivious fog
gruelling sediment confined
a rotten Self of incarceration

the stakes were high
for being impaled
a sizzling cauldron
waiting for a sumptuous feast
manna from hell and a spell
on the barbed wire walls
just behind the firing squad

gift of despair cajoling
hope from the darkest
of abysmal recesses
a balancing act on a
thorny yet slippery cross
one road leading to nowhere
the other painful but promising
no middle way to be had
between death or surrender

fear of the unknown certainly
better than certain demise

Phoenix just be aware of
of the message of Icarus
then the moon will be
waning and waxing
in perpetual motion
dancing into the light

Resolutions Resolved

What do I resolve for the coming new year?
time just to myself, have I made myself clear?
It's a matter of choice, well, and my career
and I mean to do it without any fear.
No more overtime work, I'll not volunteer.
No breaks, no gossip, is that too cavalier?

I'll leave work early, come in late, oh my dear,
by now you realize; I'm less than sincere.
I could give up moonlighting as a cashier,
focus on being a fine financier.
Or should I turn down gigs as a gondolier?
Time for me, a resolution too severe.

It's not gonna happen, I am happy here.

Resolved

This is my space, my firm position
anchored upon the firmanent
No push or prod can make me budge
my locus' ever permanent

No entreaty nor allure shall pull
or waver my good judgement
No threat can raise me to my feet
nor curses cause my movement

I am colossus; a monolith
your swords smash on my battlements
Archangels fail to breach my walls
only God, could make a dent

Throw down your arms, move on from here,
return from whence you came
In time, when people tell the tale
for you there'll be no shame

For this I say, I am resolved,
immovable and bound
No force, no foe, nor destiny
to shake me can be found

I promise you, that at my death
these words will yet be proved
I am set and resolute
and I will not be moved

Self-Resolved

Sometimes... perhaps other time
I am here and everywhere
To mean I am here but you cannot find
The one me in moments unlikely to bear

Someone called it self-involved
Yet... I'm pretty much everywhere else
Can I call it self-resolved?
Simply... no one and I truly knew and tells

I cannot place myself in reality
And I like the idea of being alone
Have I spotted the devil in holy humanity?
Or perhaps god who simply won't

Further and further I drifted from here
Closer and closer, I am what I am
Further or closer, I am no where near
I have life but what I can...?

Me... going yet nowhere
Perhaps sometime... another time
The one me in moments unlikely to bear
That someone... in moment's time to never find

Premium Member Resolved Am I

Resolved verily…
…to serve God freely
by His grace surely
working mightily
midst peace joyously...

     ...Resolved am I…
     to glorify*
     Lord, magnify
     as I draw nigh…

          …Resolved now…
          with my vow
          to Christ, bow…

               …then live
               and give…

                    love!

*1Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

The Self Delusion Resolved

I am not extremely important.
I am not powerful.
I have only minor influence.
I am a small person.

I thought I was omnipotent.
I defer to my leader,
To my country and to God.
I give my ounce of influence
To Lester Holt, journalist, NBC News.
This is my resolve.
Thank you for reading what I write.

Resolved, Resolved

Resolved, this will be my best year!
Envisioned, still with end unseen,
Shall Christ find me with lamp in gear
Or will I be begging for oil?
Lamp I am, His light on this earth,
Verve within me – Spirit of strength.
Embarking on His call to worth
Determined I will fan His flame.

Resolved, that Christ is all I need
Ego must be burned to ashes.
Selfish designs I can concede,
Occasion now for Christ to shine.
Lampshade of self removed for aye,
Vagabond fast bound for heaven
Expecting Christ will guide my way.
Daily I approach this New Year.

Premium Member I Am Resolved

I will continue to write the things I should,
I will come to the defense of those maligned
I will always stand up for right and good,
For I have an obligation to speak my mind.

I know that I probably should remain silent
In the face of bitter nastiness and bullying,
But it is very hard for me to blithely relent
When my blood pressure is obviously boiling.

I am even aware I degrade myself in replying
That it is always better to take the high road
None of the good, helpful advice I am denying
But bearing awful insults is too heavy a load.

So, I’ll not be bullied into a weak submission
And neither should anyone here so abused
I think it is time we all take a good position,
And let the bullies know we are not amused.

I am determined to make Poetry Soup the best
Community of writers on the broad internet,
And may it be known that we passed the test
Not suffering fools gladly and having no regret.

Premium Member He Resolved To Speak To the Moon

Boy could not get a satisfactory answer on earth
So he resolved to speak to the moon
How will you do it? His dragon asked.
I shall fly up there tonight in my dreams, of course.

Boy was a possibility thinker.
That night he flew up to the moon and asked his question.
I have no idea, the moon said. Have you asked your dragon?
How did you know I have a dragon?

I heard you talking to him this afternoon.
This surprised the boy.
And it surprised the dragon.
Who always had the answer.
