The Old Redbud Tree

There is a gnarled redbud left standing,
It blossomed pink year after year;
Four fused trunks grew from its base,
Its heart-shaped leaves said “dear.”

A new branch grew from one, making five,
The little tree was oh, so proud of its size,
And for decades it did...

I’m a Redbud Tree

Once I was a sapling
With four thin trunks from the ground,
Hot pink blossoms clung to the forks,
Of shoots of tiny branches.

And I grew.

One trunk made a branch
And there was room for five,
Thriving, red, I was lovely,
My leaves heart shaped.

And i grew.
