Best Recovery From...Teacher Poems
KINDNESS
Be ye kind, one to another
Is not just a simple request
It's meant to remind us of our brother
And show them our very best
I know that I have been highly Blessed
Now I share that Blessing each day
By telling others who need to rest
How they can change their way
I have been tested -- a test that I passed
And now I can look back and see
Where I was shown ways that last
And I'm telling others how to be free
My calling in life is not to preach
But I still must let others know
So now I take the time to teach
Plant the seeds, and watch them grow
Seeds that will grow and fruit to bear
Not just a month or two
When given the proper kind of care
They will create a brand new you

Alcohol is a beautiful demon,
be careful to only kiss her lightly.
Or you will see her true face after she owns you.
It is fun, adventurous, life affirming,
and recommended to flirt with a demon.
But do not be afraid of pain,
accept it, as a consequence of what she shows you.
She can show you a deeper perception of yourself,
with no inhibitions and fears.
She can tear your small world apart, in one night,
So much to teach, the beauty of loss.
She can be an artists best friend,
to peer into the void of reality, and express more truth.
Forget what the simpletons say,
to avoid her completely, they are not awake.
Drink for inspiration, drink for honesty,
drink to let go of inhibitions, from living your life.
But never drink to hide from the pain, to relax, to avoid or not feel.
She owns you then,
your lust, avoidance of pain,
you have made love to a demon,
and your soul is cursed,
or is it blessed? The beautiful suffering all come at once,
the day you quit, to teach you of
love and truth.
A barrage of information, an overload of stimulation,
cant get to work, or take care of the family.
Know that truth doesnt care about reality,
it is only an illusion,
it only cares to teach you, to make your soul one of love,
to care for others, more than your self,
or confront your own fear of pain.
Pain is the teacher we all avoid,
no fear of her,
makes us the artist, the immortal,
the teacher of future generations,
a life worthy of existence, of Gods love.
Our death is beautiful as it wakes up our art, and shows our value,
that we were too shameful to live or feel.
If we saw ourself for what we were,
we would become our greatest dream,
that we are too wounded to remember.
As a young child I had no fear
With Mommy and Daddy hovering near.
If ever a danger should draw nigh,
Four older brothers were standing by.
A happy child, I breezed through school;
I easily learned by rote and rule
Until in high school to arrive,
Eight years of learning reduced to five.
No other student as young as I,
Adrift from every familiar tie
I walked those halls a child alone,
Without the friendliness I'd known.
I puilled into protective shell
And though I learned my lessons well
I feared the limelight I must claim
When ever a teacher called my name.
At eleven years with the rest fourteen
And though in all truth they weren't mean,
All paired with boys and obsessed with hair,
They simply overlooked me there.
If asked to recite or forced to speak
My throat would close, my knees went weak.
I was so afraid I would be sick
Words wouldn't come, my tongue was thick.
And so it went for four long years,
I hid my fears and unshed tears,
Until my English teacher informed me
Salutatorian speaker I would be.
Tall enough now the mike to reach
I had no way to avoid that speech.
My advisor said to imagine there
Was a loved one sitting upon each chair.
My beaming folks, proud sis and brothers
I spoke to them, not to the others.
I settled into a comfort niche
And gave my speech without a hitch.
From that time on I have not known
That feeling of being all alone.
I've read my poems in public places
Without one fear of the sea of faces.

Sitting beside the fire’s flickering flames
Along the shores of Lake Wylie’s waters tame
The stillness of the evening’s soft sounds
Creates a happiness of soul again
The glow of the fire warms to my desire
To feel at peace with a life of work strains
That make me grow old; tired with a pain
Which gnaws at my joy and questions the game
I must play it still, but it tests my will
To rise up each morning and race to the mill
Toiling each day to create change for gain
Ignorance prevails, my efforts in vain
Thank the good Lord, for a time by the fire
In which I will pass a few hours of time
By shores of my lake with the smells of pine
Knowing by His grace that all will be fine
