Broken England

Broken England
By Steven Cooke

My Brave ancestors of England,
Look away, for I offend thee.

For your England is no more.
Decay eats away at this fallen empire.
Your people divided,
Its laws weakened by Europe’s power.
Its leadership, protecting the few.
The fresh air of your Country gone,
Only the stench of anarchy remains
Heroes of The Somme look away for I offend thee.

Stock Market Parasites, take without producing
Corporations overwhelm, the weak,
Without paying their due.
Their off shore havens digest the life blood of this once great nation,
Leaving the scraps of minimum wage for the masses to beg.
The dead of Pashendale look away for I offend thee.

Government legislate to keep us in bondage to 66
Over the hill at 50, to wonder the dole queues
Youth denied education,
Universities at a price,
Qualifications for the chosen few,
Unemployment, for the poor.
Our brothers of Gallipoli look away for I offend thee.

Our Cities are in pain.
Hopeless lives, with hopeless dreams,
Hopeless choices, drugs, crime,
Or silence behind closed doors.
Babies born to fail,
Children, exposed to depression and chips.
The ghosts of Arnhem look away for I offend thee.

A voice in the darkness, shouts its rage
The iron curtain of youth descends on England
This is no Lennon revolution,
This is youth with no future, abandoned by government
No rules here to obey, No Civic pride,
No sense of History, no Country to protect
The Saviours of Goose green look away for I offend thee

But fat cats beware, for there is a dream,
That cannot be bought.
A warning from history.
A country cannot go forward,
Without learning from the past.

Your greed will self destruct
Your Paradise a lie
For a Dangerous wind now blows,
And common sense, will fail.
For England is Broken,
And life will never be the same,
In England’s green and pleasant land.
Now It is my turn to look away,
for you see this offends me too.

The Minions

The Minions
Minions Contest

A versifier indeed, crowding the tiny city dwellers,
above the rest flying with the strongest propeller.

In day he disperses many tiny pieces of torn up paper,
at night he sits on his throne as an intimidating dictator.

The little people do as told following the confused story teller,
after all, they were treated as undesirable city dwellers.

If they don't run past the finish line they get reprimanded,
If only they knew following him was never recommended.

Early afternoon he leads them to a walk in his park,
little does he know when running they wish to disembark.

The dwellers know better than to follow him in his maze,
the more they learn of him, the more they feel crazed.

Some stay and some go, but no matter what the decision,
there is so much conflict, the town turned into a division.

Separated qualifications in regards to frugal injustice,
There may be more than one leader, a dedicated accomplice.

Beneath the caves and in front of the chair of the monarch,
he leaves trails of empty promises leading into his landmark.

Finally the city dwellers learned that it's time to be righteous,
and the look upon their faces was stunning and priceless.

The old versifier ended up living to an old age of grey,
he wondered why in the end they didn't want to obey.

Oh , how I desire universal, racial equality.
Not just forced “liberal” politically imposed. morality.

It must spring from each soul, free as a spring flower.!
Not forced to swallowed, as a lump of hard coal.

Color does not, in anyway make one superior.
Conversely., color does not make any human being, inordinately inferior..

Your abilities and intelligence. should be the only qualifications, for a job.
Not skin .color, of which the many souls, highly qualified, are indeed, robbed,

Even for a poet, such a qualification is a horrid, morbid sin.!
It takes morality, and accepting a human, for the skin they
were born in!

If I miss this one, I'll just catch the next one.
...should a job matching your qualifications open up...

Then again, if the bus drivers go on strike--
...While your qualifications are impressive...

I Love You

I Love You!

Love is introduced into a world with no expectations or qualifications.
It is like God with no verification just a thought.
Just a feeling of hope and prayer a belief that floats in the air.

Love has no bias, or prejudice.
It clings to your soul looking for that one, that other, that song, the words of
another.
Love has a goal, one plus one makes a whole.

Love holds on with all of its might.
It digs in deep, opens the most darkest spaces and warms the hearts coldest
places.

Love is blind, love is not controlled by the mind, love has many strings that
controls many things.
For a start it surges through your heart, then to your lips, where those three
words are spent, only meant for two.
 I LOVE YOU!

At first, I was not considered or given the time of day.
I was very disappointed for being treated in such a way.
I requested a little consideration, to enter their conversation.
I had more experience and qualifications for that top position.
They thought about me, conversed about me, and then said "No".
No, because they had other ideas for that spot, and it did not include me.
I was okay with that, because at least I had demanded their respect.
Perhaps to appease me, I was given a token position and a title.
I gave it my best shot, but it just didn't fit and within a year, I quit.
Filled with faith and self-respect but no job, I didn't worry; I'm a survivor.
No money, no food, no welfare line, but I found a job to become a baker.
New job, a nice apartment, a nice car; my wife and baby; we were survivors.
God made me this way, and I give Him much praise for seeing me and my
family through the hard times of our early years. Make no mistake about it,
those early years of struggle and toil build strength, gratitude, and character.
Such adversities also prepare us for the latter years.

Premium Member To Pen, Or Not To Pen

Perfectionist, I will never be.
Alas, not even in the land of poetry!

Why can I not a mistake make?
It's a poem, after all, not a bridal cake!

Few here, a true classical poem can pen.
Nor can I, even modern verse mend!

So, shall I go on with poetic communication?
Or remove all my poetry, till I meet your qualifications?

To pen, or not to pen?
Maybe, after all, this is my final end.

The heart and truth is not wanted here.
Poems with meaning, replied to rarely, due to fear.

The best poets here, for shame, not read!
What goes on in poetic heads?

Premium Member God Seeks a Man

God, still searches for a man
from crowded earth.
Not to hang for sin a tree,
heal the lame, or give one birth.

God, still searches for a man
who's not afraid.
To stand amid the throngs,
to do as He has bade.

God, still searches for a man
not the ultimate hero type.
But one laborer, for His fields,
It's harvest time, the grain is ripe.

God, still searches for a man
qualifications for this job are few.
A mere willingness of heart
and you will do.

Breaking the Stereotype

Statistics show an epidemic
A problem at hand
the statistics are looking at me.

They say that my education is an unattainable, unfathomable, distant goal
That a life on the streets is the farthest I will ever go.
They say that my qualifications will limit my achievements,
They say I will be a never-ending victim of the streets,
Healed only by the dosage of incarceration
They say that I will desert the very ones I love and live a life
full of emptiness.
They say this is my destiny.

I refuse.
I refuse to molded by the world around me.
I refuse to yield to the expectations set before me to fail.
I refuse to limit my potential
I refuse to be the statistic’s advocate and follow its path to death and destruction.
I refuse to live my life dictated by the very one’s trying to destroying it.
I refuse to abandon this present journey I endure in breaking the stereotype,
which will end only when my children can enter this world, not having their lives
pre-
destined by it, but by following the path set forth by God.
I refuse to be my father,
Whoever he was?????

Premium Member My Son - My Lovely Child

I held you in my arms for the very first time,
Elated my son was perfect, he was simply sublime.

New life that I had pushed into the world,
Precious baby, oh how my emotions whirled.

With light blonde hair and eyes of blue
I fell in love the very second I saw you

Home from hospital, oh how our lives changed
Took its toll on us - our sleep pattern rearranged!

It is quite challenging getting used to being a new mum
I wouldn’t have changed a moment with my precious son

Everyday you flourished I was amazed how quickly you grew
Crawling, walking ,talking there was always something new

I was very lucky and didn’t get the baby blues
You were so adorable, didn’t have the terrible twos

You adored reading books and sitting next to me
Friends would come to visit and you’d play happily

You slept with your teddy he was called ‘Blue’
We had a duplicate teddy...but you never knew!

How quickly the years passed, oh how time flies
It’s over twenty years since I sang you lullabies

From toddler to teenager you were our pride and joy
I am truly blessed to have such an amazing boy

At school you thrived and passed your qualifications
Then worked in computers, traveling to far off locations

Now you are away from home studying for your degree
When you graduate the proudest mum in the world will be me!

You fill our lives with laughter and joy,
I love you so much my wonderful boy.

Do You Think That South Africa Supplied Russia Munitions

When I keep hearing this song so called "
South Africa supplied  Russia munitions,"
I just laugh loudly ," Huh?Hahaaah! Hahaaah!

Hahaaah! Hahaaah! Hahaaah!
Hahaaah! Hahaaah! Hahaaah!
Hahaaah! Hahaaah! Hahaaah!
Hahaaah! Hahaaah! Hahaaah!"

Political language is hard to understand
Than mathematics and physics
Reason why some universities
Professors
Turned puppets
Of some  politicians.

Don't ever underestimate
Some politicians in politic games
Because they can drible you and
You turn to be
their body guards
With your universities qualifications.
There is no African country
Which has capacity
To supply munitions
to Russia even Ukrain.

If it was about
some foods,
drinks,
cocoas and
other fruits
I could accept because many
African countries always
 supplied those stuffs
To so many European countries.
I know that Usa , France, Germany, China, England and Russia are the biggest supply
of munitions In Africa.

Tolerance

Tolerance

Tolerance can mean many things
Being steadfast in any situation
Do not be belligerent to others

Perceptive to many golden rules
Intoxicated by being true yourself
Do not keep a grudge inside

Acceptance of others and life can bring
Good qualities of perfections and good qualifications
And beliefs that others can perceive with good intentions

Maybe even manifest ingenuity tools
Being dubious is not eloquent of any wealth
In the end being tolerant to our mothers

Honesty and tolerance goes hand in hand
Yes quite imminent on our
 Home and voluptuous land.
