The Spry Metropolis

Tower, buzz and scurry
Oh great resilient city
Ahoy!
Alive. Scramble bustle earth's
 ethnicities
On lurid quests--
A pendulum of tantric turmoil and
Blessed harmony

Quixotic city--brash,
Sangfroid merotomized and
Chrematistic--metro nonpareil.

See a myriad melange of
Tortured splenetic
Souls and great spirits
Noble and soothfast

Great city, your hecatombs
Of underground trains
Roar scream in
Hodge-podge graffiti attire

Fat fuming brattling buses
Grunt their huffpuffs,
And nervous cars scissorcut
Impatiently betwixt tarred and
Cemented streets
August and capacious

Ferruminated grey glass and steel
Towers--Aeeries in obeisance to the
Heavens, erupt in anabasis at the azure
Pearly welkin,
Humming diapasons of marvelous
Melismatic tunes
A gallimaufry of cacaphony and
Sweet sounds--the
Great Metropolis persistently
Thrives.

Streets adorned with sylph fashion
Models, conute churls, street
recrement--dazed and forgotten men,
Enticing shuck and jive
Blandishing street vendors,
Natty brujo business gentry
With their helotry on a
Ferris wheel of daily
Triumphs and defeats and
Cheeky mendicants
Shuffle along allegro vivace
Howling chorus songs amidst a
Torrent of raining dollars and
Coins floating in the skies over
The brazen metropolis.

Snuffling restaurants like hives
Humbuzz the grandiloquence,
Pithy slang and sententious
Persiflage of the day.

A truly syncratic parley
Of passions sentient
Of crimes basilic
Of arts sacerdotal and gratuitous
Of fashions arabesque and outre
Of plays frivolous and profound
Of music sericeous and truculent
Of money pursuits solonic
Of loves ascendant and descentdant
Of rejections mournful and joyous

An e'er persisting cha-cha-cha and
Boogie-woogie of the fierce
Bustling bubbling bold city,
Pendulumming pandaemoniums and
Resolutions, day
Upon pertinatious day.

Honourable Natty Dread

FROM OUT OF THIS EARTH, IN EVERY GENERATION
MUST ARISE A MIGHTY PROPHET...
SO DON'T YOU HAVE NO FEAR, YOU HAVE DONE YOUR SHARE, YOU ARE THE HONOURABLE
NATTY DREAD.

YOU BROUGHT US OUT FROM IGNORANCE,
AND FOR THIS WE WILL THANK YOU HONESTLY.
ALTHOUGH WE KNOW THAT IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE THAT MANY WOULD BE
CALLED,BUT ONLY FEW OF THEM WOULD BE CHOOSEN.

ROBERT NESTA MARLEY, HE LIVED HIS LIFE FOR WE.
AND NOW WE HAVE GROWN, WE ARE THE SEEDS HE HAS SHOW, TILLED BY HIS IMPERIAL
MAGESTY.
OH BROTHER BOB YOU WERE ONE.
YOU WORKED FROM DAWN TILL DAWN.
NOW IN THE PHYSICAL YOU HAVWE GONE, BUT IN THE SPIRIT YOU WILL CARRY ON,
THE WORKS OF MARCUS GARVEY.(CHORUS)

NOW BOB ARISE,
OPEN THY EYES.
BECAUSE WE WANT YOU TO KNOW, I 'n' I HAVE DISCOVERED YOUR FOE,
TRAMPLED BENEATH THY FEET.

SO IF YOUR TRODDING IN A STREET,
OR IN A HIGH MOUNTAIN.
DON'T YOU HAVE NO SHAME,
REGGAE MUSIC HAS BROUGHT YOU FAME,
YOU ARE THE HONOURABLE NATTY DREAD.

Hattie

Hattie gladly had a fatty patty.
If a bad fatty patty had Hattie,
That fatty patty would’ve made Hattie batty;
But, Hattie had a rad fatty patty!
The fad-clad Hattie is also a caddy.
“And gladly,” chatted Hattie, “I take after daddy.”
Hattie’s daddy, Mattie, was a caddy as a laddie.
But once Mattie had Hattie, a bad caddy was Mattie, and now the caddy’s Hattie.
But Mattie chatted, gladly, “Me Hattie’s a natty!”
All the laddies were gladly mad for Hattie, and turned caddy.
But Hattie’s chatty daddy chatted, now batty,
“Stray from me Hattie, laddies. Me Hattie is gladly a rad-fatty-patty-eating caddy
     that took aft’ her daddy!”

Natty and Patty

There once was a golfer named Natty
Who hired a young caddy called Patty
Patty loved gossip
Natty said 'Stop it!'
'Just caddy! You're driving me batty!'

Two Mongooses

The clumsy beauties come knitted to the yard,
Slithering on the dewy glassy grass,
As usual.
Two mongooses in natty brown coats
Are looking for the fare scrap, if any thrown out.
The dawn window creaks as it opens its eye,
And Master Babu darts out to enact
His typical character with stones.

Forgiveness is their emblem, the mongooses
Return in the dawns, making Babu busy.
As these brown emperors reign among shrubs,
Serpents keep miles away: the brown saviours.
But Babu stoops to the pelting raptures,
Then the mongooses retreat into the chinks.
Yet, their presence is felt in the intermittent shriek.

The wild plants nod and one mongoose comes without
Its mate this dawn, "Where is the other?”.

Babu dashes out, but picks not stones up.
Every hole and every nook in and out the yard,
Master Babu seeks on.But he returns in fatigue,
Scuffling his shoes on the back of despair.
Next days also, he seeks the missed like a man.

Thus he seeks and grows…………………….

Jocelyn

JOCELYN
( Acrostic )

Jocelyn, tthe most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard
Sound of music that tickles a man’s heart and soul
Like a star that twinkles in the sky at night
A sweet name that makes one to smile.

Oh! how amiable and adorable you are
a fragrant red rose in the garden of one's heart
Your eyes are so bright that tantalizes one's mind
Your smile makes the world go-round.

Charming replica of Venus, the goddess of beauty
In the heart of the man who loves you truly
Poet's inspiration that moves his imagination to play
And ask the birds how to tweet and fly away.

Erudite, lovely and honest woman
An ideal and sublime lady of wisdom
Making plans and blue prints for a dwelling place
Where her kids will someday run and play.

Loyalty and sincerity are good virtues to possess
These, let it reign in your heart
 Disseminate to the younger ones
Embed in their mind the Solomonic wisdom.

Yes, love is a many splendored thing
But your heart to only one man
The sanctity of love never to blaspheme
  Respect, cherish and never disdain.

Natty, and humility, are your qualities to treasure
A glory and crown to be kept forevermore
You’re a woman of dignity, integrity and decency
A woman of rectitude and probity.

Michael Jackson

Natty gale appeared with precious tunes
Great tunes the world have never heard
He looked for a vessel all over the world
But couldn’t fine one
Oh! He wondered how music could live forever
Suddenly, august 29, 1958 natty gale saw a bright star over Gray Indiana
The stars lead him to the labor room
He saw Katharine Jackson holding baby Michael
He took the baby and breathe into his nostril
Transferred all the precious tunes he possessed
Behold, all the voices of the birds drop into Michael

The sun and the moon fulfill their duties
His gift could not be ignored
His talent couldn’t be limited
At a very early age he was ready
As a member of the Jackson five
His package of precious tunes began to express themselves
He discovered music the world was waiting to hear
He saw the audience tears as he performed
But he remembered he was a vessel chosen by natty gale
To heal the world by music

A notable philanthropist and humanitarian
Heal the world foundation his flight to charity
Reaching out to the less privileged all around the world
He wept the tears in many lives
His heart was full of compassion for children
He saw the need for orphan to live a life of fulfill
He invited the rain to fall on the thirsty
He demonstrated his caring life style in music

The only king of pop on this planet
O’ what a great remarkable entertainer
His music will live forever in our hearts
Generations to come will still feel the impact of his music
Suddenly, June 25, 2009 he said goodbye
The biggest bomb that blasted the world
We know he didn’t want to say goodbye
But he weaved to us with fresh music singing in his soul

Eldest daughter – I Praise

Twenty two years ago

your absence, thus felt the timely

     opportunity to dash off
     a birthday poem to you
     in tandem with sharing,

and ripped, queued,

Hence...I apologize,
asper unasked for pain wrought

yet please let me conclude
by admitting total lack
of wherewithal.

Trickbaby

On the corner of Short con and Long play
sits the neighborhood ponies man
in his pickup van,
waiting to take parlay list deliveries
Feeling leisurely ... not wanting to bounce
on a Cadillac roll,
Trickbaby is out on a stroll
He's looking for a grifter tip
on a hot streak filly,
who runs fast spurred by a mean buggy whip
He takes his numbered ticket buy,
puts it in his lucky left side pocket,
as he holds a rolled, sacred racing form scroll
in his superstitious, money-itching right hand
Trickbaby continues on his daily walk
heading to the hoop chain ballers park
Once there, he takes a spectator bench asphalt view,
and watch some opening moves
of the ghetto grandmaster’s playing
on their custom made chessboards
Long retired from the rat-race corporate game,
Trickbaby got laid back, lounging angles
and always charismatic, well-rehearsed dangles
He observes the walking nylon nets
concrete flash bait some guppy fishes,
and he rises to go where he knows
some quick currency streams are gon flow
Trickbaby captain finger signs the seedy hotel scout door man,
who in turn gives him the proper respect nod of his soldier head
Trickbaby is dressed in his natty, blue-grey pork pie hat,
neon black, sharkskin zoot suit
And patent leather penguin spats —
proper old-school playa shoes
He greets the tall, exotic Illustrated woman at the door,
who extends her psychotropic inked hand
and pierced diamond-studded tongue
Receiving the news of the working crews,
Trickbaby goes up to his penthouse room to rest
for another night rendezvous,
at the corner of Long con and Short play
King Gotham bat gon meet some joker night crawlers;
crack open some new grifter plans,
and watch those wannabe trickbabies get the dreamy eyes ...
Seeing visions of tropical beach sands
Trickbaby true knows that a fake trickbaby
only gon start to ghetto grow up one day,
when you take their milk bottle money away

Echoes of My Soul - Missing Father

Last evening there was a sense of restlessness,
I wasn’t able to grasp why this abjectness;
The sun was slowly dying in a goodbye to a father,
The pain once again manifested my grief to gather;
I wish he could’ve lived and loved eternally and forever,
I’ll walk miles to love him and be loved again allover,
The clouds amass as the shadows come out to play:
Inevitably the creeping night smothers out the day,
A beast howls in aloofness as darkness pitches black…
Doubts start to peep behind life, tend to double back;
But living goes on and on and it happens ev’ryday,
Memories lie stored in the mind refusing to die away;
How do I mask my vulnerability and my truth?
I was a natty little child with emotions for him to soothe:
Father time lumbers on tapering my living soul to cope,
The stars blink, in a flicker of light as I still hold on to hope!
