Seasonal Migrations

Confusion abounds

       rain commingles with sunshine,

            winter greets the spring...

The calls of the flocks to this years migration
a roving community of birds in each nation
rising and diving above mists in the rocks
the drawing together for birthing new flocks

The coo of the crane in a wetland bog
the bob of its head when its nabbed a frog
opened winged geese in passages soar
north back to south or a western shore

Above our earth the traversing vast miles
into the snowfall or cliffside defiles
a race upon water to lure this years mate
or share in the catch a dance woven like date

Such grace of movement their wings on the breeze
like rhythms beating to ascend above trees
how can one capture such beauty so grand
of a creatures decent upon sky upon land

Motion so elegant their journey's in sky
mankinds observations our own desire to fly
the form of their pinions upon outstreched wings
to follow freedom this kind of life dreams

Lowlands or Highlands the wild fowl domains
in deserts or plateaus aviary terrains
on pole ice or islands you'll find their rests
every year you'll find them their community nests

Bantu Migrations: Ntu, Umb, Mumbi, Nagabumba

when they reached Cameroun, from the heart of Africa's West
they had no priests; they had no religion; they knew IMMENSITY
they had, too, the fairest of metaphors (no macho patriarchy):
recalling the POTTER who breathed into the first molded humanity
link Woman-Potter-Creators from Asu to Babessi to Zambia's Bafia

when Bantu ("human beings") left Benue-Congo four millennia ago
they had no priests - maybe the Hindus did, the Egyptians too -
the human beings knew they needed VASTNESS, plus intimacy ...
with hands and clay, a certain type of natural mothering
that priests, dominant masculine leaders, will never know

mother tongues make sounds (priests & profs label these "thinking")
in GENESIS Immensity said, "Light be!" without thinking, minus ego:
when we think, we make priests, stories, selfies: double-edged tool
ATTEND! the mothers know attention (when to feed), Asu gave us MUMBI -
ATTEND! or you will have priests! You will desire mediators & tabernacles

gather & sing; gather & sing as the BANTU, as "umb" or "bumb." Sing!
The Great Vastness will come. Especially if you sing together
The Bantu choirs through Africa knew Immensity and Intimacy
without the tyranny of male priests (or female ones talking specters) -
The Great Vastness will never be encountered by thought or priests.

Migrations

an open window
and a shout of girls with blossom sweet basil in the hair
over
the salmonoids rummage
the depth of the rivers
the springs want to find
to lay the spawn

in the darkness of an idea
a snake left a precious stone on the roadmargin
from now on the vineyards are blessed
a corypheus with a must jug
p*ss waiting for us at the gate

2

Badea Cartan is older and older
the way to Rome
cannot go
in the graveyard
stopped to read a book
p*ss blowing slowly over
yellowed leaves
stuck on autumnal words

3

they are scattered in a cornflower bed
warm love poems
a laios
the oracle listening
while
the sun sparkling
touched by the steamy ringlets
forming a cross

4

this year too
for God’s sake
we are healthy and can see grapes on the table

little November
cheerful
with a bunch of cockscomb
knocks at the gate

children’s large eyes
have a taste for the delicious apple and quince cakes

golden leaves on the margins
embroidered curtains with chrysanthemums at the windows

Capsa brothers
hurry up to serve general Joffre
a little chocolate top hat

5

under the eaves
nostalgia still nestling
a long way through the desert have to fly the swallows
to the evening service
the woodpeckers call us
on a path that leads to the mountain top
the moon
strolling
has at the breast
black currants and bilberries.

They’re moving out of Jersey
and California too.
They flee from New York and D.C.
So where they running to?

Folks are mostly headed south,
and Florida I hear
is number one. As of now,
that state’s not slowing down!

Texas sure is growing fast.
Here are things I know.
They’ve got no state income tax
and cost of living’s low.

Google will not say this, but
I think that folks have fled
away from mostly mandate-states
since freer states are red!

Winter Vii - Butterflies Behind the Snow

The snow covering the ground
Out my window
Goes on like torn-out pages
From my empty journal
Striped with a shadow from an old Red Maple

A bookmark

To the Monarch’s migration
From the mountains of Mexico
To here

Where we wait the four generations
It takes
For the butterflies’
Arrival

To drink from a cup of Michigan milkweed

Pedaling their wings
On the lakes of our wind

Weighting the Earth just enough
To keep the orbit in its gentle place
Rippling around the violet sun

And from these passing quiet gestures
My book of pages stirs and flutters

I look up
