Best Horseshoe Crab Poems
I went down to the shore one day to sun and frolic and watch people play. There at a tidal pool a horseshoe crab did lay. With my foot I tapped his shell then came a shout out what the hell!
Can't you tell I'm in deep contemplation about my untenable situation.
The tide is out and here I be awaiting my trip to eternity so let me be.
No,no I exclaimed let me attempt your life to regain
I thank you sir I do indeed but you can not reverse what nature has decreed .
So return to your home and I to mine . Perhaps we would have been friends if we met in another time. When at home and warming by your fire just remember a horseshoe crab is not a crab at all but related to a spider.
Footprints in the sand…
A washed up horseshoe crab shell nearby….
An unused boat.
Perfect….
For my getaway.
I’ll sail along the waters….
And I won’t look back.
The breeze feels so invigorating,
And such a beautiful sunshine.
Leaving this life behind,
To return to my old roots,
To make things right with my friends….
To focus more on my happiness.
So I will sail away….
Into the wide open sea….
Destination… back home.
To work more on me.
I’ll sail away,
Watching the birds fly high,
In the beautiful blue sky,
Knowing….
I’ll fly among them someday.
I’ll take this boat and sail away….
Across the ocean….
And I will return to a life….
With no chaos, and no commotion.
Listen closely to the words I say….
This unused boat….
Will be my getaway….
This is my goodbye to you.
It’s time for me to sail away.
Blue blood horseshoe crab
A million crabs milked
each year for humankind
to detect vaccine contamination.
blue, ghastly, gruesome, repugnant!
The horseshoe crab dates back 450 million years, almost twice as old as the oldest dinosaurs
It hasn't changed much over that time, surviving five waves of extinction
It moves along the sea bottom like a bull dozer, clawing and crawling and grinding
It eats pretty much anything in its path; five star, no star, no problem
It has about as many eyes as a potato, this Argus of the ocean
And now… it's threatened
No slip unnoticed may be passing away
Now, you may be saying to yourself, "Do we really need the horseshoe crab?"
But the earth needs these things in ways we often can't imagine, or discern
The earth may be saying, "Hello, I can get rid of you… if I want to
If you could gain the perspective of the horseshoe crab
You, with only two eyes
Perhaps you'd realize that I don't need you… necessarily
But I do need the crab and all those others already among the missing
You can't seem to see what they mean to me, in so many different ways
Like the horseshoe crab, which takes about twelve years to mature
I'm in no hurry… I've been here longer than you… much longer
But you, also taking about as long to mature, seem always to be in a hurry
Scurrying about here and there without a care for what you tread on, or discard
Maybe I can bring some of them back… over time
I have tools and tricks you can't begin to imagine
And I have plenty of time
You, however, do not"
