Premium Member Mother

The egg I hatched from,
the being I've been fed for nine months.
The first one that hugged me with her warmth.
The first time I've been told how beautiful I was, even if I was one more newborn child.
A sunny day by the end of June my mother had her dream in her arms, while I was in a deep dream under her wings.
You kept me for a while,
not for long time.
Soon you took me far to
another country, without your
feathers to keep me warm.
You left me when I needed you the most into a challenging life.
Mother, you didn't know, but you left me in the best hands.
I grew up with another mother, she has been with me in my cries, my nights awake, my first steps, my first teeth, my sickness, my whole life.
Mother, you never forgave me that I loved her more than you.
You were always reproaching me about what you did wrong.
You were jelous about her,
my auntie, my real mother,
the one dind't laid the egg,
but the one that took care about the bird.
After years we made peace.
We were not as we should be,
but we got closer and closer. I understood you in the end.
The worst came, you got sick, then your little bird took care about you before you flew above the rainbow. Mother, you must know that day, a piece of me died forever.
I forgave you, because now I know you did the best for me to have a better life.
Now I just want to take care about my other mum, as she did always with me.
Mother, just to tell you one more thing...How lucky I am that I had two Mothers.

Batten the Hatch

Buzzing rail buggies
spinning paddled tires beating
out a gritty wake feather
on sand dune
deliberation over alcohol burning
engines being better than gas
everyone with lit cigarette in hand
aroma of tobacco with salt launching
forth from frothy waves
forms low misty curtains
a soft silty beach records a tiny footprint
seagulls honking, hovering like sound buoy's
a large black image emerges from the ocean
it could be a friendly sea monster
"it's grandpa" in a wet suit he wore
more often than a coat and tie
bringing his grandchildren treasure from Atlantis
in abalone shell purses over flowing with sand dollars
I could be all day at the boardwalk arcade
with this haul he brought in
there would be Salmon smoked and filleted
for Thanksgiving dinner
all the cousins huddled together in the family room
with 3 bay windows on the cliff
verging on the muffled sea
countered by a fireplace and couches

This painting of a tempest tossed ship with mast, less sail,
over the mantel
brush stroked by some nameless prophetic flea market artist
over the hum of conversation, laughter
and cacophony of china and crystal
a hushed deep voice filled
my chest like a distant fog horn blew

"These are days of calm, my boy....... enjoy them!"

(A Blank Verse Sonnet)

The moon creeps through the barnyard's busy night
where ducks chase bugs on top of pond's still face
and turtles wait in murky bottom's sludge
for tasty treats to float across their view.

A pair of mallards glide behind their young.
From shadows they emerge with watchful eye
while ducklings play in reckless, cheerful joy
and turtles watch as webbed feet paddle by

but ducks in statue stance evade their doom.
As turtle swims behind to snag a foot,
a large dark shape appears to thwart her aim.

The Goddess of the moon-lit summer sky
sends clouds to move beneath the moon's bright rays
and hides the swimmers in the ripple's ruff.

The Egg's Gonna Hatch

The Egg’s Gonna’ Hatch (Revised)

The egg's gonna hatch, gonna bring in some light,
Keep it warm all day and into the night.
The cloud’s gonna break and make everything swell,
As a young chick's head pops out of the shell.

I woke up late, and that's just fine.
Cold 'n the morn and chilled by the time,
Oh, sunny day, whatcha gonna do for me?
Afternoon's past, and the sun's under the sea.

Hatch Bird! Hatch!

Once there was a nest
high in a tree
where no one could even reach it
of course
In that tree was a little bird
who knew everything
that his mom said to do
because his mom said it in a way
that he could hear in his egg
For that, he giggled
when he hatched.
He was not able to fly
but he was able to walk
He walked to his mom
and they lived happily ever after
and never went anywhere without each other.

The End

Premium Member The Hatch Shell

I rowed from Cambridge where
my scull was slapped by the wake
of the long boats from MIT and Harvard

then dodged the hodgepodge of
tiny sloops in the lower basin
competing and sharing the venue

along the bank in my "own" space
    I drifted

flags waving from the shore spoke of the night

the Esplanade was awash with revelers
so many flags moved and reflected
off the lazy waves and celebrated
to the hum of strings straining to tune

the Anthem was the birthday hymn

The Stars and Stripes Forever
wrestled with my recollections
of "Web- Footed Friends"

Until Longfellow's soul hovered - smiling
and Tchaikovsky's gift reverberated

shell and cannon echoed over the Charles
and through the city spires

in the brilliant sky colors danced with
each embellished percussion
candles for THE birthday and
wishes for peace was in the hearts
of all who shared

Escape Hatch

One last street light glows
Where faith was lost and gone
It wasn't so long ago
You found yourself all alone
I know, I know...
Been down so long
Drop the burden , let it go
Find yourself another road
I was told
Always an escape hatch home

Reach out and touch the day
Time to live another way
If it ain't what it seems to be
Find a way, plant the seed
I know , I know...
Been down so long
Drop the burden , let it go
Find yourself another road
I was told
Always an escape hatch home

Sometimes
No reason or ryme
Sometimes
It's a prison
A prison in your mind.....

Dirty Words Hatch Fight

Hard blows traded in pitch-black night:
What do you expect? Funny fight?
The lips of the young devils tight!
All Blacks who’d seen films of Sir White,
In which men fought and forgot flight…

Speedy entry of teeth that bite:
From pain one of the Blacks turned white.

Still, exchange of blows at the site!
They had agreed “Till night says ‘Light,’”
Their eyes confirming a sky bright
And - just like that - gross shows of might;
No lip to take up “What is right…

Dirty words just hatched a night fight
Three lives: the chicks lost to The Kite…

Hatch

• I found a tiny snake egg
• I wonder if it will hatch
• I've heard they'll hatch faster with heat
• So I lit it up with a match

Premium Member Robins

When I went out this morning,
I heard two robins somewhere singing.
Then, I heard them in a bush;
One said to the other: Shush...
our unhatched babies are laughing.

Premium Member eggs hatch at school

incubator day
children wait for eggs to hatch
one chick pecks away

teacher covers cage
six chicks emerge overnight
only one hold out
