Best Give Ear Poems
I See You...
Wanderer, wanderer, lost in the haze
void of direction, succumb to the craze.
Give ear to my madness, so deftly designed;
deception de-jour: aimed to muddle your mind.
Hocus and pocus no need for free thought,
erase your opinions, your conscious to rot.
As sugar and soda your smile decay,
a hoax and swindle, then off on your way.
Smoke and a mirror, please don’t look too close.
The truth makes one banal; drugs for the morose.
Illusion can conjure emotions untapped
a quick misdirection, now I’ve got you trapped.
You think you arrived here, quite all on your own
you’re one of a billion, another sad clone…
I’ve stolen the treasure that once made you free
brainwashed you to thinking all’s as it should be.
Gobbledygook and hyperbolized drivel
platitudes, platitudes, mentally shrivel;
accept what I tell you, and not an ounce more,
wanderer, wanderer, you’re lost evermore.

*This simple acrostic combined with the photo and the song represent a message I've been preaching since my return, ie, Poets for Peace. A similar message can be found in my lyric - Song of the Poet, and my series of senryus - Winds of Change. We live in a world that is fractured and splintered like never before. Hatred, bias, suspicion, accusations and so on are the order of the day. My sincere hope is this place we call Poetry Soup can become a haven, a place of rest and peace. May this be your prayer as well.
Poetry Soup is the place to be
Art's on display for the world to see
Revolution's now in progress
And the future is clear
Do unto others
Is the message we bear
Grace is the way forward
May all present give ear
Solidarity, I believe
Humans long to achieve
Isolation brings sorrow
For a better tomorrow
Tolerance and kindness are key
let love and peace reign supreme

On the wing in the dawning light,
Spring's new growth comes into sight.
Flowers, berries, nuts and seeds,
a smorgasbord to meet my needs.
I am a robin in grey-brown attire,
with my orange-red vest adding some fire.
A harbinger of Spring am I,
give ear to my joyous cry:
Spring! Spring!
Wonderful, marvelous, glorious Spring!
Oh look! A fat juicy worm.
Don't you just love how he wiggles and squirms?
Gulp...down the hatch! Wow! What a treat!
Now to my roost I must retreat.
My mate and I must build a nest,
a comfy home where our young can rest.
Robin means new growth

Music to my ears, so mellifluous
is the nightingale's song, ambiguous,
Give ear to her notes, they float on the breeze,
swirling through the air, they're tuned to appease;
I dance to her song, so mellifluous,
She's sitting somewhere, inconspicuous,
Her aria drifts down and I’m entranced,
In the stillness, her whistling sounds enhanced;
I hear her melody, mellifluous,
and I forget all my cares, strenuous,
Lost in her lilt, feeling romantical,
All I needed was Nature's canticle;
Such mellifluous strains, simply classic,
I hear the voice of God in her music.

Wise are all those who heed the call of God,
"Repent, for the kingdom of God is near",
With the Gospel of peace, you must be shod,
Salvation is through Jesus Christ, oh hear!
Wise are all those who gain understanding,
Choose instruction instead of mere money,
More precious than red rubies enchanting
Is the taste of the Lord, He's like honey,
Wise are all those who fear God, hate evil,
By wisdom, kings reign and rulers make laws,
Whoso finds wisdom escapes the devil,
Whose clutches are sharp as a lion's jaws,
Wise are all those who listen and turn back
From worldly ways to Heaven's open gate,
Wisdom calls out, give ear to Master's track,
Be wise, choose life - Christ Jesus, the Way Straight.

How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of host! My soul longs, yes, even faints for
The courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God *
Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where
She may lay her young----even Your alters, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they will still be praising You. Selah ~
Blessed is the one whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also
Covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before
God in Zion. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah *
O God, behold our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed. For a day
In Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of
My God, then to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield
The Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those
Who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed are they whom trust in You *

Enter Your Plea
All rise for the honorable judge,
some pimply-faced wiener-teen
with a computer mouse for a gavel,
a keyboard for a bench
and the whole world is on trial.
Welcome to the millennial's millennium
1000 years of cyber-bullying
sworn over oath of the holy Facebook
to rain down judgment from above
like precision guided twitter turds.
Any minor misstep makes you a target,
bully-proof vests will spare no one
for Punk-tilious is his name
and ruthless forum flaming is his game
(well, it’s that or Flappy Bird.)
Let all give ear, as he doles
expert opinion on politics, science,
sociology, psychology, and every other –ology
from his sweat-stained easy chair
in his parent’s basement. OMG WUT!??
ORDER! Order in the court,
20 million likes and three times the shares,
a jury of my peers has found
me guilty of contempt…
perhaps rightly so!

3.
Death, the Master, wears a thousand faces.
The white smile of the skull
Lies behind the 5 O'Clock shadow
Beneath, perhaps, those laughing eyes
Looking your way across the bar.
When the shock begins to fade I turn off the news.
I turn once more to the business of living.
To ponder overmuch over why such things happen
Is to invite the spirit to drain down to hollowness.
Before we cast off at night
Onto the uncertain seas and shores of dreamlands,
We might do well to take a long look down within,
Call up and kiss the swarming demons goodnight
While they stir in the strange shadowgaps of the long dark
Resting there on the fringes of consciousness.
Give ear to the language they speak down there,
Learn dark things from the rumble of their mystic, thunderous litanies.
Call for an uneasy peace with the Legions within,
Hold them back, if you can, with our talismans,
The magic words: Reason, Judgement, Morality.
Tumble then into a warm bed
Forget the Furies roaming just outside
Awaiting dead hours to do their work.
The deeds of the night
Will be revealed
When the mist wraiths steal away,
When the sun bleeds rose light
Across the white face of dawn.

let me live
don't burden me
with more than I can bear
don't coerce me
into believing things
from your reference point
I'm tired
let me live
these decisions weigh me down
the expenditure of thought
analytical thinking
that goes against the grain
of my compassionate heart
taxes me
it comes at a cost
I'm tired
let me live
my struggles with myself
are in and of themselves
hidden land mines
in the battlefield you call life
I'm maimed
walking wounded
looking for that fox hole
in someone's heart
where there's protection
from whizzing bullets of doubt
don't trouble me
with trivials
when I'm only on survival mode
let me live
when I'm of sound body and mind
come to me then
I'll have energy to spare
emotions to expend
and a clear functioning mind
then I can give ear to your grievance
and play arbiter
but not now
if you care
let me live
my life is ebbing
chronic emotional fatigue
alibied by my smile
please be kind
let me live
I only have
this one life
to
live.
let me live

Free verse
I saw the noble kind young girl last night—
The Virgin's robe was blue; her dress was Light.
“Hail, Mary, full of grace,” I prayed to her;
My soul's petition I believe she heard.
Though silent she remained, not saying words.
My gaze upon the vision was quite strong.
The apparition was so clear and strong—
The sun seemed one with me; gone was the night.
I was struck mute; from my mouth came no words.
Around the Virgin shone such dazzling light.
My soul believed she wanted to be heard,
So I stayed silent to give ear to her.
Although to pay attention full to her,
I had to put aside that I was strong—
For I was weak but wanting to be heard.
Before she came, it had been a bleak night.
But now I saw her Son the Christ's bright light;
He clothed the Virgin Mother with His words.
She finally to me spoke some few words.
I listened quite intensely then to her.
She said, “Let Jesus shine upon you Light.
For now you need no longer be so strong.
The demons will not torture you at night.”
For this I was quite pleased; my prayers were heard.
For far too long, I wanted to be heard.
I was afraid my prayers were just some words.
No longer would I fear the dark of night.
My soul was ever so glad it heard her.
I was revived; my faith and hope were strong.
For I had seen her Son's and Mary's Light.
I bathed in wondrous grace and love and light
Desire had been fulfilled; I had been heard.
As human I had not been truly strong.
I had relied on thoughts and deeds and words.
Yet now I gave heed to advice from her.
She had appeared in my soul's barren night.
I saw such Light; I heard such loving words
My prayers were heard; I listened unto her.
The Virgin was so strong; gone was the night.

Oh dearest sweet Rose,
my love for you grows
as warm as the sun
in summertime glows.
Elegance, fragrance
around you it flows,
from the top of your head
to the tip of your toes.
Oh Rose, can’t you see
what you mean to me?
You fill all my life
from sky to the sea;
look how I worship you,
down on my knee.
Oh dearest sweet Rose,
give ear to my plea?
Oh Rose, do you know
just how I can show
my passion on fire,
my heart all a-glow?
And yet you insist
in making blood flow
with a thorn in my thumb,
you mean so-and-so!

Verse
My soul cries unto the Lord my God
this is my plea from this old heart
confessing that no one's righteous
our enemy pursues me by deadly dart
Fainting within me all my hope
remember your times from of old
meditate on all of God's goodness
pursue Him as would fine gold
O my Lord give me your answer
hide not for a moment your face
my trust is in you sovereign Lord
show your way by your merciful grace
My God point out your perfect will
save my life for your name's sake
lead me always on straight path
provide preservation from that snake
Thanks for your steadfast love
so my enemies you will destroy
I am your servant humbly I bow
to you O Lord my crowning joy
(PSALM 143
'Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land.
Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.
And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.)

The psalmist makes a promise or two
to guard his mouth and his ways
holding his tongue so not to sin
when the wicked presence stays
But finds it so difficult to do
for fighting within is burning fire
causing his distress to grow worse
now he speaks to prove he's no liar
O Lord show me my life's length
show me the shortness of it all
you've made it only a breath or two
so my life is in a long stall
My hope is in the Lord to wait
so from my transgressions deliver me
remove your very heavy hand off
make my prayer's answer to see
Sojourn with you I will continually
despite my tears let me know peace
look away so I can again smile
before my life here will cease
(PSALM 39 (ESV)
I said, “I will guard my ways,
that I may not sin with my tongue;
I will guard my mouth with a muzzle,
so long as the wicked are in my presence.”
I was mute and silent;
I held my peace to no avail,
and my distress grew worse.
My heart became hot within me.
As I mused, the fire burned;
then I spoke with my tongue:
“O Lord, make me know my end
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting I am!
Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths,
and my lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah
Surely a man goes about as a shadow!
Surely for nothing they are in turmoil;
man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
“And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in you.
Deliver me from all my transgressions.
Do not make me the scorn of the fool!
I am mute; I do not open my mouth,
for it is you who have done it.
Remove your stroke from me;
I am spent by the hostility of your hand.
When you discipline a man
with rebukes for sin,
you consume like a moth what is dear to him;
surely all mankind is a mere breath! Selah
“Hear my prayer, O Lord,
and give ear to my cry;
hold not your peace at my tears!
For I am a sojourner with you,
a guest, like all my fathers.
Look away from me, that I may smile again,
before I depart and am no more!”)

Lessen your crimes now and give ear to me
Perhaps I can still make you understand
How a force for bad you've chosen to be
To many in the firm grip of your hand.
You cajole the one, abash the other;
Promise acceptance, threaten rejection.
All in an unfair attempt to smother
The voice of good, and enthrone perversion.
Do I wish you were not in existence?
Would I really snuff the life out of you?
Far from it, I recognize the potence
In you to cheer and uphold what is due.
Decide, then, to turn a new leaf today,
And I may have good about you to say.

Sonnet
There is sun after the rain
Let me first catch my fast train
Greed will leave you with no gain
There is healing after pain
Leave your worries in the drain
I did not notice you have gone astray
Wasting away like the gray of today
Well, God is here and He will lead the way
For now, let go of remaining dismay
I still have hope that we will be okay
Not much in mind – it does not make sense
But, make sure to make my shoulders less tense
Throw away regrets and seek repentance
God’s mercy gives us hope and acceptance
Waiting for a sign of deliverance
I am feeling more and more on my own
But, I have faith that I am not alone
Reminders of the past, like a ringing phone,
Kept repeating my downfalls, far from unknown
I believe His light of truth will be shown
There is hope in store – can’t mope anymore
Life is not always a thought to ignore
Maybe the reason you closed the door
Is because you have lost something you adore
Well, I know what you’re looking for…
I am not buying your little mind games
All I have left is thrown into the flames
I remember the times you called me fowl names
Somehow, I will forgive you with no shames
No one needs to take the blames
There is life after demise
No need to be fooled – be wise!
Do not fall for bitter lies
Instead, give ear to our cries
Doubt no more, poor weeping eyes!
