Best Ghoulies Poems
Then comes the call of the witch named Kabbath,
That signals the start of All Hollow's Black Sabbath.
And, from the dark crypts and the blackest of holes;
Come the night creatures, as the Midnight Bell Tolls
Come Goblins and ghoulies, black creatures all hassled.
Come the fiends of the night that haunt the High Castle.
To the cemetery fields where the undead lay waiting
For the black orgy to begin their unholy mating.
Witches, black sorcerers, and warlocks all
Dance to the wind at this black magic ball.
Their music the cry of ten million lost souls;
All hither they come as the Midnight Bell Tolls.
All gathered at last, at this darkest of hours.
To wait for the sign of Satan's great power.
That'll send them in search all over the world,
To capture the souls of ye boys and ye girls.
So, let this be a warning this Halloween night
And pay heed to thy parents, they know what is right.
Though you search for sweet treats, wherever you stroll.
Be safe in your beds, when the Midnight Bell Tolls.

A witch flits and twists through the indigo mist.
A bright orange bracelet illumines her wrist.
I see through the gloom she’s not riding a broom.
Her oversized black pointy hat sports a plume.
The shadows reveal other ghoulies. All squeal
in unison “TRICK OR TREAT!” I seal the deal
by giving them goodies with great kid-appeal.
Note for Tania's Contest:
The first line was chosen from a list for the previous contest. Maintaining the meter--one iambic foot and three anapestic feet per line--was a challenge, but I didn't allow it to prevent me from conveying my intended theme.

~Halloween Night Is Here~
(Free Verse)
Halloween night is coming soon
Halloween is drawing so very near
Witches from everywhere fly to the moon
Spookies faces in this night they all wear
Mist from every cementery start to rise
Ghosts,ghoulies and goblins slowly creep
With your head you'll pay the price
If you stay out, late at night from your sleep
The sky of sudden turns around you all inky-black
And a full-moon rises and sparks in the dark
You're in trouble and filled of so much fear
You better run home very fast before is too late.

Hallowed specters fill the air;
goblins and ghoulies have no cares.
Hidden in the darkest night;
creatures scramble with delight.
Glowing eyes and mournful howls;
leave behind the hootie owls.
Specters swirling with delight;
flit too and fro beneath street lights.
The haul they take upon this eve;
confections that are sure to please.
If you should fail to bring delight;
you will be tricked upon this night.
No exemptions will be given;
lest you’ve rolled a lucky 7.
The game of Halloween has rules;
watch and beware those nasty ghouls.
Your generosity sets you free;
evil creatures, you won’t see.
Just children in their costumes bright;
Neath the glowing moon’s bright light.
Upon this night, you must make haste;
there is no moment you can waste.
Don’t forget the Jack-o-lantern;
it frightens nearly every phantom.

Do you enjoy this haunted ride with me?
I hope it’s nice and comfy on the hay.
So many spooky things there are to see.
It’s more fun than a one-horse open sleigh!
I hope it’s nice and comfy on the hay.
It’s breezy, but I think it feels just right -
It's more fun than a one-horse open sleigh!
Just hold on tight to me this night of fright.
It’s breezy, but I think it feels just right.
What’s that? The Headless Horseman’s coming near?
Just hold on tight to me this night of fright.
Afterwards, more ghoulies will soon appear.
What’s that? The Headless Horseman’s coming near?
You tremble, and I love your snuggling close!
Afterwards, more ghoulies will soon appear.
Oh, the vampire dripping with blood is gross!
You tremble, and I love your snuggling close.
You can snuggle closer. Don’t even peek.
Oh, the vampire dripping with blood is gross.
Aha! A little peek I saw you sneak.
You can snuggle closer. Don’t even peek.
Together we can laugh and show no fear.
Aha, a little peek I saw you sneak.
I think you kind of like it being here!
Together we can laugh and show no fear.
So many spooky things there are to see.
I think you kind of like it being here.
Do you enjoy this haunted ride with me?

From the beginning of a new year right to the very end of it, there's something that brings people together in ways that makes our world all that much better. Something that's been going on ever since the beginning of celebration. Whether it be a cause for life, birth, death, holiday or anything that brings groups of people together to share smiles, laughs, and joy. Birthday's- give us parties with family and friends, an event where everyone sings together and shares a celebratory cake as they all watch the new year olds close their eyes and blow out candles wishing for that hopeful wish to come true. Everyone smiles and claps as the last candle has been blown out. Mutual feelings of love are shared with everyone from the youngest child to the oldest grandparent. Even strangers, if out somewhere, will join in and sing the celebratory song-"Happy Birthday To You" Birth- From the moment the newborn comes out of the womb to the first smack on his/her tiny little rear-ends (butts or ghoulies as my mother would call it). Smiles and happiness are an instant welcome from the over-joyed parents, family, doctors and nurses. "Welcome To The World Little Ones" Death- Even at times of sadness we celebrate the life and death of a loved one as it brings loved ones together to share happy memories of those they have lost. And then there are- Holidays- These are my favorite times of the year, times when people all over the globe collaborate in mass celebrations by singing, dancing, decorating and showing and sharing their love and kindness to most everyone they come in contact with or talk to on that special occasion. Celebration- without celebration our world would be tasteless and boring and unfortunately there would be a whole heck of a lot less smiles going around. Smiles- it's what the world needs now, tomorrow, and till the end of our time here on earth. "Smile On"
Whatever the month or time of the year it is, it is these occasions that bring joy to my soul and love to my heart.
in celebration
we share love and happiness

Watch out kiddies
Here they come
If you don't like ghoulies
You'd better run
They're creeping out
From under the bed
From out of the closet
And under the spread
They're making these weird
And unearthly squeals
I'm not even sure
These ghoulies aren't real
Mom says they surely
Are all in my head
I can feel this bumping
Under my bed
Can't pull up the covers
They're under there too
I just saw one
Wearing my shoes
Shrieking and squealing
These scary sounds
I couldn't move
They're all around!
Then a strange little fellow
Wearing my shoes
Started dancing and singing
Bout stuff in the zoo
I started to giggle
At this comical sight
Forgot about how
I was rigid with fright
The song he was singing
Was a happy refrain
No longer frightened
Started giggling again
I enjoyed his antics
As he danced around
Swaying back and forth
With these cheerful sounds
A feeling of drowsiness
Crept over me soon
Could see out my window
The big yellow moon
My fears disappeared
And I drifted to sleep
As a bunch of ghoulies
Started tickling my feet

So precious are wee trick or treaters,
much-loved by us generous greeters.
With sacks overflowing
and bright faces glowing,
they are grateful, sweet candy-eaters.
Then droves of six-footers come brawling
For buckets of candy they're calling.
In fake kiddie voices,
they make clear the choices:
I treat or they'll trick. So appalling!
"No treat" starts the six-footers scheming.
Those ghosties and ghoulies start screaming.
My pumpkins they're smashing.
Through fences they're crashing.
By midnight the Charmin is streaming.

Zombies really creep me out
Those hollow eyes so whack
But I know how to chill them out
Just toss 'em weed and smack.
Witches do not bother me
A bet I'd surely take
That somewhere in my family tree
A few burned at the stake.
Ghosts and ghoulies no prob there
They make me think of Casper
Frankensteinish dudes, no way
I know I can run faster.
I've never met a vampire
I eat way too much garlic
Most monsters do not have a chance
To mess with my harmonic.
Exception doth the rule make
This one will make me run
When the bats in the attic shake up
Closet skeletons!

Light Verse
Bring Out Your Dead
One by one the dead shall rise
And the burning fires within their eyes,
Shall show their hatred for humanity.
Their deaths have taken away their sanity.
They will hunt us down and take our lives,
Down to their living Hell of screams and fire.
Torture, pain and no way out.
Welcome to Hell. You shall fulfill Satan’s desires.
One by one the people burn,
Or have their bodies buried underground.
But from the ashes of the dead,
The phoenix shall rise once again.
But fear the phoenix, for what it brings with it,
The zombies and ghosts and all sorts of ghoulies.
The land of the dead, was once full of life,
Now the life has been drained away,
By the Hell that is fire.

The horror movies on the T.V. screen
are my favourite aspect of Halloween.
Ghosts and ghoulies by the score.
Look out ! Don't open that door !
Jamie Lee is still my favourite scream-queen.
There's a Stephen King movie every night.
He's always good for a delightful fright.
We all love to be scared
so you'd best be prepared.
By November you'll sleep with a night light.

Every October here in the UK we set the clocks back by an hour
It’s gives you a feeling of turning back time, one tiny moment of power
It’s meant to be done at two in the morning but that doesn't come with a warning
Some folk it is said do it just before bed and the morn is an hour late dawning
But tonight is a fix, BBC and Netflix are trying to mess with my head
The rubbish they’re showing is hardly mind blowing, I’ll go to bed early instead
This October Sunday decreed as the one day to turn back those hands as is said
The hour we borrow, I could take tomorrow, but I’ll change them now and then bed
But then of all things my bloody phone rings, my mum says the clocks change tonight
Early is fine but not before nine, or the order of things will take flight
I told her I might have a real early night, so I’ll change the clocks now I said
She sounded irate, but it’s only eight... it’s bad luck and you could be dead
With thanks for the warning I thanked her for calling and told her don’t mess with my head
There aren’t any ghoulies or gargoyles or gremlins to strike when the hour is shed
So all of my clocks I knocked one hour off and then I went straight up to bed
The stairs I would climb in that moment in time never occurred in my head
But then of all things my bloody phone rings, my mum says the clocks change tonight
Early is fine but not before nine, or the order of things will take flight
I told her I might have a real early night, so I’ll change the clocks now I said
She sounded irate, but it’s only eight... it’s bad luck and you could be dead

So all of my clocks I knocked one hour off and then I went straight up to bed
The stairs I would climb in that moment in time never occurred in my head
But then of all things my bloody phone rings...

3 Senryu and a few Limericks
an eerie shadow
a hand touches my shoulder
....a double parked broom
shrieks in the graveyard
skeletons in the moonlight
.....a timpani of old bones
arched backs and Mohawks
claw marks and a hissy fit
......broom stick rumble seat
The Corona virus mask
creates a Halloween task
how to eat candy
even when handy
the same problem exists for dad's flask
The witches and ghoulies are running late
rushing with potions to seal our fate
if it gets much sicker
I'll just use the clicker
and move to a colorless state
