From Out of the Mist

A witch flits and twists through the indigo mist. A bright orange bracelet illumines her wrist. I see through the gloom she’s not riding a broom. Her oversized black pointy hat sports a plume. The shadows reveal other ghoulies. All squeal in unison “TRICK OR TREAT!” I seal the deal by giving them goodies with great kid-appeal. Note for Tania's Contest: The first line was chosen from a list for the previous contest. Maintaining the meter--one iambic foot and three anapestic feet per line--was a challenge, but I didn't allow it to prevent me from conveying my intended theme. Hello Janice … Halloween is a relatively new day slowly building in Australia. Kids around here are also accompanied by adults and I enjoy the way they decorate themselves when trick or treating - thanks again Janice - Lindsay

Thanks so much, Lindsay! Here--and everywhere else, I presume--the parents are very cautious, accompanying the kids and going only to people they know and trust. Thank you, Lindsay. Janice
