Perfecting skills to calm a flighty horse.
Compact its trombone limbs with reins and legs
performing with no noticeable force,
all trouble and delight that beauty begs.

One horse, one rider, indivisible;
sky-born with earth-bound duty to endorse.
Control from legs and seat must be invisible,
obeying smooth transitions on the course.

Struck by awe, crowds watch, as in a trance
a pleasure trip controlled by aids precise.
Such liveliness contained in equine dance,
by what divine device - this Paradise?

Each discipline involved must ne'er be seen.
Before our eyes must seem a floating dream.

Premium Member Atstan Impressario

An Angelo Arab, you had immense spirit
dappled grey with a huge leap over fences.
Your stable name was Tom, pedigree name
too much of a mouthful for every day use.

In your stable you were a terror to my grooms
pulling faces and hunching up your back as if
to bite or even kick. It was all show you just
wanted to be left alone, a true one person horse.

No other could ride you as you would buck and buck
even going down and rolling to get rid of other riders.
Shoes could be a challenge as you would snatch feet away
or refuse to lift them up, only one blacksmith did you tolerate.

Yet to me and my mother you were so sweet, nickering
a welcome when you saw either of us coming.
You floated over fences winning us many rosettes
when turned out you would race down the jumping lane.

With Sheroake at your heels laughing with glee
you would go up and down time and again.
Then take delight in having a long dusty roll
finally settling down to graze the sweet grass.

Fast as a flash, the clock never a challenge
perfect rounds nearly every single time.
In one year you went from grade C to grade A
barely 14:3 hands tall yet heart of a giant.

You always held a special place in my heart
many the hours we spent together out riding
or practicing in the paddock, at dressage
you were a real ace act graceful as a swan.

Tom sweet Tom how I loved you
maybe the more as only I alone
on your back you would tolerate
your love made me feel so proud

Great spirit horse long may you race
the clouds where you now dwell
If I close my eyes I can still hear
the thundering of hooves flying by.

Never again was there a horse
quite like you. I remember your neat
little ears flickering back and forth
as I spoke to you, with a nicker you
would answer me and toss your head.

Olympic Equestrians

Nothing is so beautiful
as equestrian events,
watching graceful horses,
while droppings add their scents.

For true equine lovers,
there is such a thrill
in the coordination of
a well-performed quadrille.

This is one Olympic sport,
where both he and she compete.
Jumping fences or dressage;
they're equal at the meet.

Premium Member Seahorses On See-Saws Sashay

Seahorses on see-saws prance, sashay and dance
   gliding majestically under the sea.
No clip nor clop for this aquatic steed
   for no legs adorn its knight-in-armour body.
Instead its fins keep these hippocampus poised
   as they gambol gently and frolic about.
But of course it's a horse
   with its tell-tale head and mane.
Ignore the odd prehensile tail
   that some over-zealous strapper coiled.
It's a special horse for an undersea course
   swirling and whirling silently
   through seaweed strap slalom gates.
With no trot, nor canter, nor gallop, nor panting,
   but with a leisurely pace in ambling gait,
   like the painted horses on a merry-go-round,
   the seahorse is forever poised,
   in true dressage collection.

Thoughts of you perforate my normality.
Insidiously creeping in and ‘squatting'in my heart.
You are a sitting tenant in my house of reason,
yet my heart cannot evict you, for you have become
the focus of my emotion - and I love you.

Thoughts of you occupy my fantasy:
constraints of responsibility lifted and living the dream.
No need to think of others or what ‘ought' to be,
just you and me laughing, living, loving.
or riding on a stallion wild and free.

In our normal life, the one of social expectation –
where there are rules to keep and duties to perform –
we spin in opposite wheels of existence, rarely touching:
moments often wasted, afraid of what to say.
Yet sometimes there are glimpses,a mutual acknowledgement;

a lingering look, a tentative touch, an innuendo,
toe dipping in the water of possibility;
testing the temperature in case one day
we dare to dive in and swim in the
illusionary sea of our reverie.

Yet, in reality or fantasy, one thing rings true;
one golden thread; one commonality;
whether in my dreams or in my waking: whether
riding on a stallion or performing the dressage of normality,
when I look into you eyes I know I love you,

……………and I feel you love me too.

Monarch

"Monarch"

new wings spread
blue morph
born to be king

for a short while
the butterfly reigns
cameo dressage

part of the branch
grounded majesty
in a gilded cage

a new servant to take
upon the mystery
of things

much sky to cover,
a new world, a realm
investing new age

outside the life
of the always known
that ebbs and flows by moon

swift offering
en masse as one
chalice to alter

to lift
to pray
and sing

make golden
for the next in line
an imprint

ordained by
something
greater

(LadyLabyrinth/2022)

"King Charles III: A Modern Monarch"

“I dreamed I was a butterfly,
flitting around in the sky;
then I awoke.
Now I wonder:
Am I a man who dreamt of being a butterfly,
or am I a butterfly dreaming that I am a man?”
(Zhuangzi)

“When thou dost ask me blessing,
I'll kneel down, And ask of thee forgiveness:
so we'll live, And pray, and sing, and tell old tales,
and laugh At gilded butterflies, and hear poor rogues
talk of court news; and we'll talk with them too,
who loses and who wins; who's in, who's out;
And take upon's the mystery of things,
As if we were God's spies: and we'll wear out,
In a wall'd prison, packs and sects of great ones,
That ebb and flow by the moon.”
(Shakespeare)

DRESSAGE
~~~~~~~~
I bend to your hands
Of feathery soft light
I dance and prance
To both our delight
Your hands and legs
Guide me guide
Ride me ride
Two together
Entwined
With pride
My horse poem for today for riders who have played with this discipline, from a horse's point of view.
An Ebony Celebrity
A handsome ebony stallion, Frederick the Great,
honors the Prussian monarch of the same name.
He never has trouble finding a mare for a date,
this Friesian stud of notable celebrity and acclaim.
He turns many curious heads wherever he goes
Curly mane and tail flowing when he is running
but Frederick gladly stops to strike a noble pose.
He's magnificently beautiful, perfectly stunning!
Trained in Dressage, but he loves to run free
Frederick is worthy of all the honors I bestow.
He even had his name in lights on a Marquee
when he made an appearance on the Late Show
He's a gentle giant who loves to give kisses
At the age of twenty, he takes center stage
Frederick loves the ladies, but has no misses,
but might find a sweetie on his face book page.
Smile
A smile is earnt, not filigree basket handed as
Red carbon copper dressage notes shaped as rose core womb
If I laugh, the cackle, dead back throat
Then I conjoined twin it with a smile and you
Manage-á-trois with your white hollow heavens
Or if the mood should swarm me and alien I determine
To be pleasant in feeling and warmth within
Red cheeks and teeth to the nightscape
Then you copy-cat as we swallow breaths and vanish
A smile is earnt, not given as a whore
Even a whore comes with a price printed in depths
A smile for a smile's sake is a lie
A lie is deeply insulting and hideous
Smiles for nothing but air and sweet CO2
Are repellant and vomit-heavy.
_
This is my reply to a question I was recently asked.
"Do you ever smile?" At the time I only replied with "If you make me smile, then obviously
I would be smiling. But for the hell of it, generally no".
So regardless, my explaination of why smiling like an imbecile is insulting and worthless.
