A funeral is not the place when you find you need to laugh
Here is my true story about my little gaffe
I hope this poem does not offend
It is written in memory of a very special friend
My father’s friend had passed away
And to the church we went that day
I was heavily pregnant and feeling glum
And awaiting the birth of my lovely son
The priest he came from a foreign land
His words we found hard to understand
When he said the words ‘let us pray’
I bowed my head and heard him say…….
‘Heavenly Farter’ (I cannot remember the rest)
For tears of laughter were falling onto my chest
The more I tried to stifle my laughter
The worse I became, it was a total disaster
I got a hanky to suppress the giggle
My shoulders up and down they did wriggle
Tears were flowing from my eyes
My husband looked at me with great surprise
He took me by the hand and we left the church
On the pretext I was so upset and needed a quiet place to perch
Outside the church my laughter freely flowed
My eyes were shiny and my cheeks they glowed
When my father finally came out
I told him of the priest’s error and at me he did not shout
He decided he better have a ‘quiet word’
Their conversation it was not overheard
On our next visit to the Catholic Church
Out of the building I hoped I would not have to lurch
I got ready to bow my head to pray
And then I heard the priest say ……
HEAVENLY FARZER! Oh thank the lord
My father’s words he had taken on board
Now when I hear the words ‘let us pray’
I cringe and remember that awful day

"What did you do in the big war, Daddy?"
(Is often asked by a soldier's laddie.)
"I'm proud you asked me that son;
I packed a golf bag and gun,
Since I was the Gen'ral's guard and caddy!"

Things to do in 2022
Breathe in – breathe out
Listen more – talk less
Pay attention
To the needs of the undemanding
Look people in the eyes
(it’s all you can see nowadays)
Breathe in – breathe out
Curb my dog – and my tongue
Soften my sharp edges
Trim my nose hairs - frequently
Tell people I love them
Even though they know it
Stop arguing with inanimate objects
And
Breathe in – breathe out

Ain’t Nuthin To Do in Lubbock
By David J Walker
The Killer came to town
Jerry lee Lewis and his pal
Jim Ed Brown
Playin at the municipal coliseum
To a sell out crowd
Payin up to 5 bucks
Just to see ‘em playin loud
But… that Ain’t Nuthin
Cause Asleep At The Wheel an
Jerry Jeff Walker an The Mains Brothers,
Waylon n Willie and a lot of others
Includin Alvin Crow were still knocking em dead at
Back to back weekend shows
At the Cotton Club
While all the musicians in town
went to see Stevie Ray V
wailing on his fender
At Stubbs where Lou kept the BBQ ribs
And the cold beer comin
Joe Ely was there being cool
playin pool
tradin licks Jesse guitar Taylor
And Some fool still says….
Ain’t nuthin to do in Lubbock

There’s so much to do in so little time
Only just begun to start to realise
It might even be a little too late
May have already sealed my own fate
Coming home after a hard day’s work
Not even time to change my dirty ole shirt
Sat down for dinner kids running around
Watching my program fell asleep somehow
Time for a bath and a quick one at that
Feeling so tired will you wash my back
I can’t do that getting kids off to bed
You know I’ve got a busy day planed ahead
There’s so much to do in so little time
Only just begun to start to realise
It might even be a little too late
May have already sealed my own fate
Damn it tomorrow I must fix that car
Been playing up won’t get us very far
Due to go on holiday at end of this week
Not even packed not even ready
There’s so much to do in so little time
Only just begun to start to realise
It might even be a little too late
May have already sealed my own fate
Must try to learn to take it in my stride
Been rushing around and I feel so tired
Can’t even get to my work place on time
The traffic so heavy makes me so wild
There’s so much to do in so little time
Only just begun to start to realise
It might even be a little too late
May have already sealed my own fate

get up dusk yourself off ,jumb back on that horse
are you really going to give up cause you failed the course
hold up your head up , straighten up your back
you got to get your life back on the right track
so what everybody wants you to be who they want you to be
you have to live your own life make choices for yourself
yea alot of that might come with a fee
but you have to stop being a doormat for everyone else
speak out loud clear your throat
no wonder so many people take you for a joke
doing all that mumbling noone can hear a word
voice yourself stand up and be heard
you really need to stop taking and start giving advice
dont you think it's time to start to taking charge of your life
otherwise the rest of your life will be filled with regrets
cause it's not what you do in life it;s how you do it

Get some sunshine,
get a bruise,
play a game
that you might lose.
Go out fishing,
ride your bike,
skate the park
or take a hike.
Find some friends
and climb a tree,
try to catch
a honeybee.
Swim the lake
or in your tub,
watch the stars
or join a club.
Don’t just sit
inside all day,
if you must
then play with clay.
Build a blanket
fort with chairs,
help your figures
climb the stairs.
Take a break from
lights and screens,
read a book,
imagine scenes.
Don’t let summer
go to waste,
it will soon be
gone with haste.Get some sunshine,

What did I do,
Quite the disaster, but if only they knew
The depth of the hole I find myself in,
Thank goodness ambition is no mortal sin.
I seriously thought this thing would be fast,
A simple invasion, a side show, a blast,
Over by dinner then pop the Champagne,
Ukraine by name only, Russia’s domain.
Never the thought came into my head
That a little B actor would play me instead,
Tenacious and cunning he's proven to be
But if chess is the game, good luck playing me.
The West struts its stuff, more noise than effect,
A mish mash of junk all easily wrecked,
Perhaps they forget the Russian resolve,
Stay tuned for a while and watch it evolve.
Ukraine is no match for what we can do,
Time our best friend and that's always been true,
We're patient and hardy, impervious to pain,
We'll suffer and bleed for what's ours to gain.
Don't read me wrong I want this to end,
I'm just very careful which message I send,
At the end of the day I'll make a tough deal,
And a big swath of land I'll invariably steal.
Ukraine won't be happy, the West will cry foul,
But don't be impressed, it's merely a howl,
A little play acting for show and effect,
As for this to continue they clearly all dread.
Ignore the odd glitches it's the outcome that counts,
This hasn't been pretty, a truth with few doubts,
But often what shines is merely fool’s gold,
Land is the key and Ukraine’s I will hold.

Lots of job to do in Africa
Africa is a third world contry,
As classified,
Africa is undeveloped,
They say,
Africa is full of illness,
They claim,
No opportunity in Africa,
Somany believe,
I grow up listening to this,
That makes me wonder?
What is wrong with the development of Africa?
What areas are necessary to start development?
Lots of jobs to do in Africa,
If we are yet to develop,
It means we are behind,
If we are behind,
It means a lot needs to be done,
How come we are jobless?
How come we are unemployed?
Look around you,
Sure you see accomplishments ,
Yet to be accomplish,
Lots of jobs to do in Africa
The time is ticking,
The people are eager,
And testy,
The change we need is in the things
We are yet to do,
Like they always say,
We are too populated,
I tell you a rare truth,
that make things better,
Together we need to build,
And repair the fallen legacy of Africa,
When the world never care's,
Lots of jobs to do in Africa
What we lack means,
We need to work,
Other wise we remain,
In poverty in midst of plenty,
Our success is not based,
On our condition today,
The earlier we realise,
That we have a lot to do,
The better for Africa,
And off curse us all,
The reality of our future,
Lay on the work we do today,
So! Let start now,
Cos their are,
Lots of jobs to do in Africa.

Epic
What did I do, what Karma is this
Where is the power, the glory, the bliss,
I didn't sign up for this constant pain,
I'm losing my mojo, going insane.
I gave up a bunch, my whole pampered life,
The glittering lights, a model for wife,
A media in love, fans all around,
Success beyond words to truly astound.
The Don was the man, the king of the heap,
The world's superstars in my presence would steep,
Invites and connections too many to count,
Politicians included my patronage tantamount.
My wealth and prestige more radiant than gold,
Everyone buying whatever I sold,
From Casinos to Pageants, Hotels by the score,
Anything Trump they just wanted more.
And now what is this my world full of grind,
My presence and words despised and maligned,
Melania so mad I tiptoe at night,
To then sleep alone, a truly sad sight.
But what my recourse, I've little to say
What I would do, what would I pay
To rewind the clock, swallow my pride,
Stick to my golf and from politics hide.
Too late for all that, I'm in to my neck
Just hoping and praying to avert a train wreck,
History's blunt it favors the winners,
No pity or quarter for ambitious beginners.
So here's the game plan, my only real shot
To well clear my name and wipe out this blot,
Another four years that's what I so need
For me to yet prove that I truly can lead.
And lead I sure will despite that grim bunch,
I'll use my fine guile peppered with hunch
To ram home the point beyond any doubt,
That I am the one with God-given clout.

7) To never lose childlike enthusiasm

Blank verse
What Are We To Do In This Earthly Life
Dare we see justice is oft overdue
Wherein earth's cold brings its sadder chill dews
Up higher where mountain gives its hard frost
Wander lost souls about completely lost.
Mankind, savage beast crying all alone
Wondering just where the hell love has gone
Has it gone wayward, far out lost at sea
Or does the hidden spirit up and flee.
Why does man's Fate dare to such darkness hold
As a punishment to mankind be sold
Is true we should Heaven then ourselves turn
Or face unholy hell to always burn.
What are we to do in this earthly life?
To avoid its deep darkness and great strife?

Eyes follow my face
To scrutinize what I place
On top in my mind
What I do in a crowd
And how I spend my time
In Solitude
They try to study my thoughts
Which are complicated for them a lot
For in company I reflect their minds
While with me I am myself
Like a free bird
Flying
I walk in the sun
Enjoy the breeze
I walk beneath the moon
Enjoy the silence
And look at stars for hours
And at the glimmering lightning bolts
Dividing the sky in two
As if wind is playing with the curtains of heaven
I look for asteroids on fire
And watch them dissolve up high
I hear the music of crickets
See as far as my sight can travel
And look at bulbs that are in skies, and underneath
I talk to the Nymphs
And live as princess in my kingdom
A kingdom of love and of peace
Of flowers and of butterflies
Decorated by the lightning bugs
With mirrors all around
Reflecting all these lights in multi colours
Universe sings to me
And I sing to her
That’s what I do in Solitude....

Free verse
She gave so freely of herself
Whatever she could give
She was a small town girl
It was what you do in a small town
Where everyone knows everyone else
Where your character is being summed up hourly
She gave too much, and had no food
But she knew it would not be a problem
Sure enough, there was a knock on her door
The neighbor invited her over for a chili supper
The next morning another neighbor brought her waffles.
Hot with maple syrup
This is what you do in a small town
You look out for each other
You take care of each other
Not so it will be reciprocated
But because it is the right thing to do
And it makes your heart feel glad.
