What You Do In a Small Town
She gave so freely of herself
Whatever she could give
She was a small town girl
It was what you do in a small town
Where everyone knows everyone else
Where your character is being summed up hourly
She gave too much, and had no food
But she knew it would not be a problem
Sure enough, there was a knock on her door
The neighbor invited her over for a chili supper
The next morning another neighbor brought her waffles.
Hot with maple syrup
This is what you do in a small town
You look out for each other
You take care of each other
Not so it will be reciprocated
But because it is the right thing to do
And it makes your heart feel glad.
