Best Constitutional Convention Poems

April 12 Dire Prediction Civil War 2

Civil War 2.0

Reading the latest polls
Showing that President Biden
 And Ex-President Trump
Tied in a dead heat
In the polls
Particularly in the swing states.

. I realize there is
Real possibility
 That Donald Trump could
 Be elected president again,.

Again, and if so, what would he do?
These nightmares keep me up
At 0 dark hundred.

Nightmares that President Trump
 Ending American democracy
Replacing it with Hungarian-style
Neo-fascism overwhelms me.

Another factoid in the news
Is that 25 states,
According to the Texas Independent Movement,

Would likely join Texas in seceding.
From the U.S. in the event
That Biden is elected president.

The proponents of this Great Divorce
 Call it Civil War 2.0.
And in most cases, it's led by Texas.
 Leading the Red States

And California leading the Blue States
Including the entire West Coast
And NE America and Chicagoland
Out the proverbial door.

And if Trump does not make it
He would call it rigged
And announce he would be happy
To serve as the President
Of the Christain States of America

Immediately Texas and 25 states
Succeed and hold a constitutional convention
To enact Constitution 2.0

So if Trump wins Christain Fascism
Followed by Civil War 2.0
If he loses Civil War 2.0
Followed by Christian fascism
In the Christian States of America.

These are some of my nightmares
That I hope will not come true.

A Republic, if you can keep it

Apocrypha phantoms
Hustle flung at your plugged ears
Wretched refuse numbed

_____

NOTES:

TITLE:

When asked what form of government the delegates at the Constitutional Convention had created, Benjamin Franklin famously responded with "A republic, if you can keep it," implying that the success of the republic depended on the active participation and responsibility of its citizens.

Franklin's statement established the new nation as a republic, a form of government where power ultimately resides in the people, exercised through elected representatives.

* "If you can keep it":

This phrase highlights the fragility of a republic and the critical role of citizen vigilance in maintaining its principles. Franklin was cautioning that a republic is not guaranteed, but requires active involvement and commitment from the people.

*    Active participation and responsibility:

The phrase emphasizes that a republic requires a citizenry that is informed, engaged, and willing to defend their rights and freedoms. It suggests that without this active participation, the republic could be at risk of becoming something else—perhaps a tyranny or an authoritarian state.

*    Context:

Franklin's response was given after the Constitutional Convention concluded in 1787. He was emphasizing the importance of a system of checks and balances within the government to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. He also understood the need for an engaged populace to hold their elected officials accountable.
