If I were a Mermaid
If I were a Mermaid my name would be Margo and I’d live in the deepest blue sea
I’d swim with the dolphins, make friends with the sharks and hope that they wouldn’t eat me
If I were a Mermaid my tail would be gold and my hair would be crimson red
I’d hold it in place with fishbones I found buried deep in the seabed
If I were a Mermaid I’d go to school in a cavern by the bay
My classmates would be clownfish and squid
The teacher a grumpy stingray
If I were a Mermaid I’d frolic and play with the creatures of the sea
The lobsters and shrimp the whales and the crabs
the eels and shy manatees
If I were a Mermaid I’d spend my days watching ships as they travel afar
I’d spend my nights on warm sandy beaches
Making wishes upon shooting stars
If I were a Mermaid I’d dream of pirates and the treasures that they sought
I’d dream of their ships with their tattered white sails and the battles that they fought
If I were a mermaid I would do all these things in my
Home beneath the sea
But I’m not really a mermaid so I’ll just be content
To be the one and only ME
I'd love to live a sea life,
there's just so much to do.
It would never ever be boring,
in the deep deep ocean blue.
I could juggle with clownfish,
sunbathe with the rays,
take off with the pilot whales,
and go blading with skates
Blow balloons with the pufferfish,
play pool with a shark
go hunting with sea lions,
teach a dogfish to bark
I could strum with guitarfish,
play piano with tunas,
make jazz with a bass,
then go solo with groupers
And we'd all have sea-cucumber sandwiches for lunch,
and jellyfish for desert.
It’s said there are many fish in the sea
So which type of fish would you choose to be
The sharks and jellyfish I would avoid
Swimming with dolphins I’ve always enjoyed
Tropical river queens are angelfish
To mate with one of them, male species wish
All fish seem to evade barracuda
Even powerful, albacore tuna
But of all fish swimming in lakes and seas
There’s just one with humor that seeks to please
Clownfish perform an amusing sea dance
With host fish before they take residence
If given my choice, a clownfish I’d be
There’s no greater gift than laughter to me

find blue summer in the undulating
fans of the kelp forests’
kelly green
swirl aquamarine waters
lemon tangs and
silvery blue angelfish dart,
dive disappear in a cloud
of color near
fluffy white sand bottom
the jet black stingray floats
like a kite
ripples ruffles flips and fusses
stops abruptly to let the
sand grains settle over wings
burying all but two round pearly
black eyes
ever observant
en garde
sunny red and vivid yellow
clownfish mingle kiss and
swish within the caressing
tentacles of the purple sea
anemones their symbiosis
on display
lit by golden shafts of
sunlight stabbing thirty and
forty feet angled through
the feathery kelp limbs
amber seahorses buck and rock
with the ocean waves
and currents of deeper cooler
waters flowing like underwater
rivers through the warm
buoyant waters of the
colorful kelp
Corals in colors carefully
chosen by Poseidon for their
elements of smiles, giggles
and warm hardy laughter
sea cucumbers decorate
the sands surrounding
the bases of the
kelp as they reach stretching
up to 300 feet to the
tossed gyrus and
sulcus of the ocean
sea foam surface
flirtatious clownfish
tries to impress an angel --
but loses his sole

Tidal connection,
wild flowers woo a Clownfish;
Anemone bond.
Seeds of ambrosia,
birds fight over leftovers;
Mammals with munchies.
Dancing Bryony
playing both sides of the coin,
grant don’t play my wish.
Peak of abundance,
blushed pizazz peppers the air;
Cherry Blossom blooms.
Calia purple,
always makes an impression;
Moths flock to its flame.
Honeyed Ambretta,
the taste of a Summer fling;
Perennial blast.
Sea anemone’s tentacles toxins kill
But the clownfish has a special skill.
Poison immune
Will return soon
Bringing food to sea anemone, regular drill.

Tidal connection,
wild flowers woo a Clownfish;
Anemone bond,
give in give up a little;
Flourish and flow together.
Seeds of ambrosia,
birds fight over leftovers;
Mammals with munchies
pass around shareable plates;
It’s never polite to gorge.
Dancing Bryony
playing both sides of the coin,
grant don’t play my wish;
Trusted you with a secret,
don’t drown my faith in poison.
Peak of abundance,
blushed pizazz peppers the air;
Cherry Blossom blooms,
so whimsically festive;
Big shot missed their own party.
Calia purple,
always makes an impression;
Moths flock to its flame;
Hot swells of a royal shade,
such enticing perfection.
Honeyed Ambretta,
the taste of a Summer fling;
Perennial blast,
enjoyed but over too soon;
Sweet seasonal time share.
red oozing from every seam
of my shell
stinging
like a jellyfish
what is a body?
a home
mine or theirs?
a prison?
punished for
my flaws
the flaws i can’t change?
a clownfish
mind and body mirroring the
image of the striped, majestic, free
creature
if she’s a creature for her
beautiful imperfections
then why am i imprisoned?
trapped: enveloped in
Earths tentacles for mine?
a monster
Creatures of the sea, all beautiful and fair.
A thought comes to mind, what if they swam in the air?
Would we swat fish away as we do with bugs
Or tentacle arms always giving hugs?
Whales would want nicknames,
Sardines playing hopscotch games,
Lion-fish need to be tamed,
Crabs at cafes sipping coffee from mugs.
Starfish lazily lay getting tan,
Seahorse has a political chat with man.
The clownfish tells jokes at comedy night
While anglerfish holds still as the light.
Sea otters would be perfect babysitters,
Barracuda will pose with shine and glitter,
And sea urchins would love to clean litter.
Seals, wanting a swim, will make the bathroom flood.
Turtles would work construction because of their shells,
The lobsters would be managers of hotels,
Swordfish would join battle,
Manatees could look after cattle.
Sea anemone helps with shock therapy,
Dolphin cheerleaders yip with glee,
The shrimp will sell car insurance, guarantee,
And orcas looking good in scrubs.
Flying fish would be airplane pilots,
Narwhals picking fights and riots,
Sea urchins would give tattoos.
Manta rays can be anchors on the news,
Sea slugs would be the ultimate spies,
Scallops having staring contests with multiple eyes,
Belugas stealing cookies but always denies.
Electric eels dealing out drugs,
The sting ray always tattles and blames,
A jellyfish constantly proclaims his name is James.
Pufferfish will be prideful and wise
And the hammerhead shark ruins your rugs.
The walrus could be a taste tester,
The blue whale, a movie director.
Librarian belongs to the hermit crab,
Cuttlefish would drive a taxicab.
Sea lions workout, under the chest press they strain
And angelfish work for voting campaigns.
“What life would be like” I exclaimed
“If we swat around fish like bugs.”
