SISTERHOOD OF AVON

Oh how I miss the sisterhood
the brrr...ringing of a bell
a catalog and a smile in hand

the scent of sweet cologne
nearly met customers at the door
miraculously in their own flavor

jingle jangle of jewelry
not fine but touchy-feely

and collectibles how i miss them
and the sweep of my youthful skirt

i was God-blessed with territory
— assigned not chosen,
a secondary job

i recollect three households
heaven sent, angelic psalms
as if I had travelled beyond earth’s borders

first woman, straight-laced, strict
believed every lady should wear skirts
a Christian, perhaps too pharisaical

Brr...ring at twilight and a gruff voice
a man barks, “who is it?!”
taken aback, “the Avon lady…”

a lovely woman practically
knocks over her husband, to answer
the door, sporting silver hair

she invites me in and we chat
over a quite different setting
— relaxed

Christian wearing pants,
so cheery and warming
— the bite of her husband mosquito-like

And now I’m not joking —
Christian sisters living next to each other...
do you see the theme of my life?

this dear woman’s married to a dermatologist —
certainly woman do tip their hat of facts

so i go off to water aerobics and notice my skin
has a rash
so i call
and being young and brash
ask
if i can ask her husband’s advice

the next morning i tell my boss — a naval Master Chief
that i needed to see a dermatologist,
and he laughs, “you’ll never get in”

i say, “sir, i already have an appointment”

so i had shingles, just on the cusp,
and was saved from much pain
for God is good all the time
all the time God is good

and when i step over the border into the heavenly realm
i will still sing of his goodness!

Brr...ring i miss the fine company and the singing
of customer’s doorbells
and one day i will hug my fine
sisters

Premium Member Mittens Vs Gloves

I love my pretty colored mittens,                                        as soft as new kittens.                                                        Grandma's loving knitted fur,                                              keeps my little hands warm in the cold snow~brr.                Each hand as one,                                                              so I can have more fun.

My colorful gloves,                                                            are part of the ones made for Grandma's loves.                    Each glove has a warm finger,                                                                    they will take their place and linger.                                    Every finger will have a fur wrapping,                                  none will be overlapping.

secs, saint so still.
no restraint when
great wisdom - faint
from accent spills.
has my back - God
of love - soundtrack
keeps no record
of wrongs, slow to
anger. i’ll go
where stirs the heart’s
former brr, warms
the soul, prefers
the morning song -
its airborne wings
of the reborn.

And juggle his brown balls for a joke

Premium Member Minnesota Winter

Picture several feet of snow, Pa!
Don’t be clumsy with your packing, Sir!
Of fluffy white fields, you’ll be in awe.
Afield Southern climate, you’ll feel the brr.

Pack your woolen coat and boots, Dad!
Don’t forget warm socks, silk underwear, Pop!
From far away it don’t seem so bad
But the scene’s colder from Santa’s workshop.

Premium Member Winter Sleep, Spring Awake

Snug within a mountain cave
I dream of catching fish
Brr! Can still feel this cold wave
For warmer climes I wish

While it's snowing hard outside
I sleep and snore and dream
Throughout winter, here I hide
Away from frozen stream

But one who sleeps has to rise
In that beautiful spring
Refreshed, I'll open my eyes
What joy that time will bring!

I'll swim, jump and play once more
And catch a lot of fish
Revitalized to the core
Spring is my fulfilled wish

I'm a fuzzy wuzzy bear
In hibernation sleep
Soon winter will go elsewhere
And I'll get up and leap

Waiting eagerly for spring
When I'll become active
Once again, the big, brown king
I'll join my friends and live

Premium Member Last Weekend I Scoured the Earth For Fun

Last weekend I scoured the earth for fun. I ran the race.
I danced in the rain. I jumped hoops and ate holly-berry sandwiches.
Then I took my pet Yeti and went for a walk in the park where
Regular humans without Yetis either ran up or ran away screaming

I had forgotten that some people are afraid of yetis, gargoyles, ducks.
Being fearless, Yeti and I took a dive into the lake. Brr....
We froze our human-toids off, and I did not know he had human-toids.
I painted some murals on my neighbor's face, and I whirled a bit.

The twirling was there for the taking, but it would have been overkill.
I refused to do anything I did not want to do. It being the weekend.
I refuse to waste Saturdays doing stuff that does not make me happy.
Sundays are for lounging in my bathtub until the water stops boiling.

So yes, I did take a bath, with bubbles, and my pet octopus.
The pink one, who is not so prissy, not the stuck-up blue one.
My grandchildren came over and we painted the ceiling
Not with a mere solid color, but with murals that irritated grandpa.

We also formed a band, planted a garden, and built a tower.
Kansas City had never seen such a tower: we are still marveling.
I am pretending I have no idea who did it, as it ended up in
The middle of I-70 and there may be a little fine involved.

What did you do last weekend? And it better be something fun.
I only understand joyous, wonderful, terrific, outstanding stuff.
Oh, I almost forgot. I drove around in my fire truck blowing sirens.
I was fined for that, by the police and fire chief. Thanks Dad!

Premium Member Seek Him In Ordinary Things

Just a leaf, falling blindly
Seeking light, breathing the night
In melancholic, still and cool
Flames of gentle in colors and hues
Soft as the twilight, pouring
Grace through the eve – trees
Naked, bared by the breeze.. brr….

Just a flake, falling soft
Beneath the glow of a moon
Who knows the song,
The stories of healing, the poetry
The praise, stirred by the wonder
Covering the night, beneath the hesitant
Moments, blurred by the snow’s
Frosty promise, the moments
Blessing away the night’s praise… brr…

Just a dream, abiding inside
Gentling the spirit
Singing faith through the light
Who composes a hope,
A prayer from the heart
Who believes in the presence
God’s joy, peace and love
Rising from the music
Played by the stars,
The sweet songs in the skies,
Asking hearts to smile,
Wistful as the winter’s sigh, brr…

Just a moment, and I shall see
The wonder of life
Freeing you and me,
The music of His kingdom,
Stilling the seas,
The beauty of forever
Stirring second chances
And I believe… He is alive
In the falling leaf, the snow and dreams,
All the wonders that comfort, so I see….
Whatever comes, whatever I need,
He is always the Son, and He’s shining
So I’ll forever be, warmed by His love,
Assured of His grace,
Promised a home with this love I believe…

Is my heart’s answer to every need.
He is the life that came to die for me
He is the hope that abides in me
He is the faith that gives me God’s grace
He is the light that reflects my belief
He is the King who survives even death
He is the One that gives souls a chance
He is the Savior who takes away all doubt
He is the answer to every prayer, each question
He is the Promise of eternity in heaven!
He is the love that gives my heart direction.

Merry Christmas on this special day,
But above all else, seek Him… just pray,
Forever and always, believing He is the way!

WEATHER FORECAST

0 degrees

and below
the new year came in so cold
with a beer and a brr
predicting a fury of flurries
fluffy white happiness
a clean sheet
flapping against the cheek
more rain
hail AND rain
thunderous thanks
predicted as fires put out
for goodness sake
replaced with sunshine
sunshine AND seeds
growing a wonderful 2018
the farmer’s almanac
never lies
tells all
this year will warm
us up to

98 degrees

Premium Member I Wish I Had Chosen To Live At the North Pole

The winter is choking me with her cold air.
She is blatantly whitening everything.
The birds are terrified they will not live through it.
School is cancelled for the ninth day in seven weeks.

I wish I was a skier. I wish I had an igloo.
I wish I had chosen to live in the North Pole.
This would seem normal then and I could feel partly responsible.
My cold-air-induced asthma is screaming for warm climate.

Three teachers who normally have some sense
Were pushing each other’s cars uphill to get out of school on Friday.
We are lucky this did not come down to three deceased teachers.
There were one hundred and fifty-seven slide offs in Kansas City.

Not counting the forty-five wrecks.
The winter is choking me, holding me hostage.
Making me re-think my choices.
But my grandchildren live here, I argue and so I stay.

My pain, my gain

midnight hides a fear
that stops the winter winds whizz
brr chills my spine
the night silhouette
birthed the morning joy of spring
aww flowers bloomed
sun shown in orange
for my orange trees harvest
oh it looks so nice
hot air brought me joy
heaps of orange start mounting
tut the trees thorns pricked
blood flowed down my leg
pains well up tears in my eyes
yuk some juice then spilt
the summer bees smiled
to make sweeter the orange
hmmm more juice filled my drums
I smelt autumn leaves
that scents the butterflies love
wow I love those wings
joy then filled my tanks
I'd dance like monkeys this fall
shhh my pain's now my gain

Premium Member Spring is Cold

Spring is cold in its cool pastel colors.
Today, Winter’s a fool to tread so late
past its season. Its gait freezes flowers.
Spring’s upset with the winterly arrogate.

Depression will not take hold - the sun’s out.
Reminders that March has a lion’s bite.
Pinks, whites and yellows - Spring without a doubt
is tipping his hat, new leaf growth’s forthright.

March does not pack away its clothes, not yet.
One day a gal wears shorts, and her sleeves, short.
She has her fur-lined coat close by, you bet,
and will wait for mid-Spring soak to retort.

Brr and brr-ing her sandals back, slap North Face.
Primed gal arranges dandelion light.
Better than a quilt, the zephyr’s embrace.
Parasol of oaks and maples delight.
