Premium Member Dust Collects

Dust floats in the air like it belongs there,
and then accumulates on everything.
Dead skin and mites suspended in mid-air
adhere to practically anything;
sullying surfaces to which they cling.
Dust bunnies gather, morphing into balls;
that hide under beds and roll down the halls.
Dust spreads allergens, dander, and pet hair
that collects in corners and sticks to walls:
it's everywhere, yet no one seems to care.

Within the Contained Behemoth

"Within the Contained Behemoth"

we think we travel
strange universes

in our planetary
reconnaissance devices,
transporting initial
contact communication
for exporting
potential new lives
for resettlement,

perhaps we are the
internal world
of God,

we are
the good
and the bad
of an otherwise
invisible being,
a central life source
we cannot see for dreaming,

because
we are
part
of the internal sum
immersed
in the body
of something much larger

and we,
we are like
nerve cells, along which
impulses received
from other cells at synapses
connecting, are transmitting
to the larger bronchi,

travelling through
the trachea we
give breath and voice
to lungs that appear
like a galaxy,
perhaps we are just

crystalline allergens
we are antigens
and dust particles
debris to be
removed with
antibodies to keep
the larger life

genetically
alive.
perhaps the code
not in us, but we,
the code within
the larger, are the
internal messengers,

contracted
like a virus,
eternally mined
within the
contained Behemoth,
conscious of its time,
it is, sustainably recycling

Totalitarian Menu

If you want to keep
             your expanding
                    civil liberty weight down,
we suggest you try the alphabet dictator soup
It’s demagogue-approved to keep the
public scrutiny town hall gavel pounds off of you
The letters F ... R ... E ... E are not in the can,
and radical talk chowder is totalitarian banned
You best clam up, if you know what’s healthy for you
But the split-lip pea soup tastes great liquefied,
if your jaws need to be wired shut
Fat ideas of human rights
will get you shipped to Siberia
on a dissident Weight Watchers bus
Sugary sweet intoxicating wine of independent thought
will get you government-issued gulag cloth
So don’t get drunk on too much First Amendment talk
Here’s something else you might want to try on the menu,
our peppery, Black Boot fascist veggie stew
It’s guaranteed to give you a mean kick
Only 100-percent propaganda tofu
is offered in this meatless, bicameral dish
No harmful voter allergens to alarm you,
and it’s debate-free healthy too
This totalitarian menu will slim your political weight
down so fast, it will shock you
Just watch what a few rubles a day can do
I know you still have cravings
	       for some red meat democracy
Need I remind you: this is a
media roast-free, autocratic dinner party
You will be amazed at what
a few influence-peddling dollars will buy
But please be advised:
Stay away from any amended second helpings
of the rich, decadent General Custard pie
Aw, shot ... it’s double-barreled delicious,
but it got major health concerns,
			             no Krispy Kremlin lie
Too many Constitutional calories
in each serving of this American dish
We urge you ... implore you ...
demand you not to give it a try
Those who taste too much sweet liberty,
tend to kick their totalitarian diet to the curbside

Premium Member Salutations, Spring

We sing your praises long before you’re due
and after you’ve departed—all year long!
You bring green grass and flowers into view—
plus bugs, torrential rains, and winds so strong.

You come with warmth to woo the Earth to life.
Sweet fragrances come wafting on the breeze.
With allergens, the springtime air is rife.
My faucet-nostrils drip; I wheeze and sneeze.

But allergies and rashes can’t negate
your glory. Nor can pollen steal the praise
you’ve earned. Now I’ll just take my meds and wait
till I can relish your more winning ways.

I’ve sneezed on this creation seven times.
My dripping nose baptized the latter rhymes.

In Spills of Off Shore

Kills ocean spicies
Ecosystem under stress
Air full of allergens
Poeple bankrupts
Ocean of treasures
Boyous of wonder
Takes years to rebourne

Technology flaws
Without recovery plans
Never plan to save living beings
Should stop all off shores drilling
Triggering capital depression

Spicies like our people
Need immediate care
Look upon unfortunately
In play as the one clean its act

Premium Member Downside of Spring

On the frigid wings of the northern breeze
waned winter with frayed feathers flies away,
clears the mist from shining sky out of freeze,
song of birds brings life in ambiance grey.

On silken leaves’ cradle blooming buds glow,
with cascade of color petals unfold,
zephyr ripples fragrance in fervent flow,
but spring also has its downside untold.

Insects crawl out after hibernation,
stinging bees build hives in unwanted place,
allergens spread as season’s creation,
from defrosted ground dust fills warm air space.

Though compared to winter it is tender,
spring is not all encompassing splendor.

Premium Member Cousin Wesley and Weird Aunt Edna

I am terrified I will die, Wesley said. It is raining.
Rain does not usually kill people, I replied.
But lightning can, and thunder is scary.
Lightning has never hit me, I replied.
It will probably get me, he said. His teeth were shaking.
He had been raised by a worst-scenario activist.
Everything she says usually includes the worst possibility imaginable.
She is my Aunt Edna, and this is the way she talks.

I would go to the store, but the roof could cave in.
I would vacuum the rug, but I might stir up allergens.
There might be black mold under there, vacuuming could kill us.
Her husband had escaped years ago.
I always wish he had taken my cousin Wesley with him.
Wesley is afraid of tornadoes, trains, clowns, hearts and bicycles.
He could possibly die from getting a scratch from a nail or eating walnuts.
I do not know if he is allergic to walnuts, or if he does not like them.

Wesley and his weirdo mother, my aunt, go to church all the time.
Praying they will not die in their sleep or in the car or at a bus stop.
They don’t even go to bus stops!
I wish that they would learn something in church, but they do not listen.
They are way too busy worrying about dying.
Faith and fear, so linked, and yet, so not linked in their case.
I have tried to help.
Sadly, they are determined to retain their worst scenarios.

I'M Never Greeted.

Dead dried leaves,
and i bleed for reasons unknown,
I'm the last breath your life receives.
No king will fill the high throne.
And once again my chromosomes make me gasp alone.
Only mortals seems to bleed..

Allergens leave me allergic to substance,
So i tread water 3 inches deep,
Condensation helps me breathe for energy in present tense.
But ankle deep health doesn't seem to seep.

Bandages don't seem to protect,
Just cover and help with a clean conscience,
Damages stay available to the weakness of death.
Life stays unchanging but never constant.

Dinky and fragile things seems needed,
But i wallop in double negatives, freely flowing,
Confused faces welcome me to the stage but I'm never greeted.
Not even a thousand breaths can detour my constant blowing.

Allergies

ALLERGIES

I’m tired of these rains of salty tears
Caused by allergens in my atmosphere.
Since allergies last the entire year,
Why they’re called “seasonal” isn’t clear.

The stinging spores are always near,
Welling and swelling and telling,
I fear, of my constant felling
From constant tears.

I can’t get my eye makeup to take,
Shake, bake, or stay
Because it bleeds and flakes
Due to the water my eyes always make.

So thanks for nothing, Allergies!
?How you piss off a priss like me!
You take great liberties but show no civility,
Increasing and releasing
Dark shadows doing battle
In all places and spaces on my face;?

Usually lovely but “seasonably” ugly
From the super-puffy, very stuffy
Watery, red, and watershed
Eyes I temporarily despise
Because of these constant cries
I can’t defy, deny, or hide,
No matter how hard I try.

I’m stuck with the leaks, peeps,
So if you care about skin, nails, and hair,
Beauty tips, bowed lips, and my clever quips,
Please say a prayer my face is spared,
Not too wizened and pared
Into a beady raisin
By these godforsaken
Allergies which constantly
And relentlessly torment me!

Premium Member Breezes and Sneezes

Freedom flings out the summer breezes
In a park where allergens make sneezes.

Men gather to toss their plastic frisbees,
Taking off from work for sick day freebies.

Allergy

I was sitting outside in the garden,
and stroking me cat on the back,
when I must have brushed on a flower,
which angered a wild bee to attack.

Accidentally I made the mistake;
a mistake that brought me to my knees,
and now I have been diagnosed,
that I am quite allergic to bees.

Well it’s not just the presence of bees,
or a problem with bees on the wing,
but it’s usually a flower or hive,
that induces the insect to sting.

I have been stung wearing no shoes,
inadvertently touching a hive,
had black eyes and swelling and eczema,
but been lucky enough to survive.

So the doc says I must be allergic,
for apitoxin has built up in me,
now he’s sent me for allergen tests,
to stave off ‘bee inflammatory.’

While sitting in the waiting room,
a Mother and daughter walked in,
so we started to make conversation,
on allergens which affect us within.

The daughter she held up her hand,
displaying a band on her wrist.
It’s a band for medicinal alert,
for her allergy’s that do persist.

She’s allergic to peanuts and eggs,
wheat, seafood and cottage cheese.
Now they are worried ‘bout chocolate,
but nothing was said about bees.

I asked her if cats are a problem,
but her answer was downbeat and flat.
She lifted her eyebrows and shrugged,
‘I don’t know, for I never eat cat.’

Into the Abyss

I find myself starting a sentence here
The growth of a seemingly logic idea
Photosynthesizes in my mind
It starts to disappear
When the sky begins to shift
And across the river I drift
I end up over there
Where “the grass is greener”
The air looks cleaner
On the contrary
It smells like ****
Rambling off into the abyss
A bottomless pit
tangled and bojangled words
Particles of confusion from within
Mixed with dust and allergens
Photons expose the imperfection
Dawning the rebellious infection
Staring off into time
This made up thing that we live by
To contain us and restrain us
from questioning why
Does anyone have the answers here on earth?
Or shall we adventure forth
Into space
We can leave now
forget this place
For maybe it does not exist
Perception of reality dismissed
Everything is backwards and people stand still
We walk upside down
And roll up the hill
The sea is above is
The sky is below
We are a thousand
Yet zero years old
Time moves forward
What if it went back?
Or fast forwarded into the vast
Universe
What lies beyond,
The furthest point we can see
We can only theorize
Fantasize
About the beings
Of cosmic proportions
Epic distortions
Of the way we believe
Things ought to be

Premium Member Pollen Is Kicking My Petootsie

Pollen is kicking my petootsie today
Allergens yelling “up and away!”
Spring time greenery is here to stay.
My nose is running in every way.

I am crying although not sad.
My scratchy throat is really bad.
Pollen is making me exceptionally mad.
When autumn arrives, I will be so glad!

Premium Member Crayon Box Dreams

Written: May 27, 2025, for contest Sponsored by: Miranda Hawley

                ****************

Colorful crayons, the dreams of my choice,
Chalk, white, and red allergens hurt my voice.
Young hearts overflow with pristine lifetime,
While learning about our gone past sublime.

Like a box that cradles bright, varied pens,
Transforming basic scenes with vivid stems.
Shades of jade, azure, lavender, and gold,
Turquoise whispers like oceans, calm and bold.

Purple colors absorbed me as a child,
Soft blue calmed all the troubles of my mind.
Yet I shun the red; the shadow it casts,
Recalls too well the echoes of the past.

Same as how crayons fit in their holder,
I give each dream its special space folder.
