why are there stars in the sky?
if they were on the ground,
there wouldn’t be any room left —
for anything else.

why does snow fall?
if the snow fell toward the sky,
we’d have too many clouds,
and couldn’t see the blue.

what about rain?
yes, the sky would still look blue,
but it would have to hold all our water —
the stars would be too busy swimming to shine.

where does the sun go at night?
well, you know how you put
on your Elsa pyjamas at bedtime?
the sun slips on its moon pyjamas.

why are people living on the street?
because their stars have fallen,
leaving them no room.

Azalea

Azalea! Belle of the ball
Elegant stylish grace,
Flowing swirls,
Shades of pink satin
Air of sophistication,
Awakening imaginations
Love and nature,
Played a part,
Warm breezes swayed,
Different dream worlds,
Dancing emotions waltzed,
Romance bloomed,
Midnight hopes disappeared,
Twelve o’clock struck,
Cinderella!
A fairy tale,
But for Azalea,
She remains
Always and forever,
A very beautiful flower.

My memories wander and my heart goes back to another place,
Where the people are warm and genuine, and have that Southern grace.
It’s known as the Azalea City, with the magnificent March flowers,
Where they savor the flower, instead of rushing to happy hour.

Championship football games in the chilly fall air,
Performing with the band with such skill and flair!
Tender sweet memories of a first embrace,
And you have no trouble still seeing that face.

Working so hard with the band for competitions,
Made us as musicians flourish with ambition!
And coming home as winners we were truly blessed,
We knew that God had simply made us our best!

Churches on every corner, and everyone attends,
To hear a sermon of inspiration for all the friends.
Can’t forget the sweet ripe peaches, and hot sultry nights,
Thinking of Valdosta, Georgia makes everything seem alright.

Azalea Red and Tears

I bought your favorite color nail polish today.
On a whim of missing you.
And I painted my nails with a mixture
Of Azalea Red and tears

It strengthens them, you know
Keeps them from chipping and breaking.
Like me.
You keep me from chipping and breaking.

I thought of you as I brushed the layers of color on carefully and purposefully.
I thought of how you bundle me up in blankets of encouragement and us-memories.
I thought of your face captured in a thousand pixels on my early-morning screen.
I thought of your voice echoing from the other side of yonder.

I thought of reading your words and thoughts
Crystallized like red acrylic on nails.
You are my hero and you strengthen me.
Thank you.

I love you.
I miss you.
I am wearing your favorite color nail polish –
It completes me.
