Never Rescue a Cat From a Tree

Never Rescue a Cat From a Tree

By Elton Camp

The cat has climbed a tree and can’t descend
Unless you help it, the cat has reached its end
That is what the neighbor woman fearfully bade
When she approached you, tearfully seeking aid

When such a request as this you come to hear,
Tell the old lady that she has nothing to fear
Soon out of the tree the cat will sure be gone
For when it gets hungry, it’ll come on its own

And if doubt or hesitation in her you detect,
Then her mistaken thinking you have to correct
“Just how many cat skeletons did you ever see
That, of a starved cat, are hanging up in a tree?”

A Spoiled Old Mog

From cosy, sleep perhaps a dream
The scent of rabbit cooking slow
It tickles at my nose and so
My eyes open to kitchen’s beam
My dish is high and so I leap
To watch the pot just take a peep
I am the cat that has the cream.

But no I’m told, I have to wait
It is too hot and I will burn
It smells so good, around I turn
A gentle purr, anticipates
I’m hungry now and I want stew
No that tinned food just will not do
Another purr, give me the plate!

I am the cat who gets the best
A spoiled old mog I hear her say
Her familiar here to stay
As on her lap, I take my rest
She stares at pages of a book
I lift my head and take a look
More things to cook, she is the best!

A Cat On the Tree

A cat up on a tree.
Watching a dog barking crazy-
Looking up-
At the tree...
The cat laughing
At the helplessness
On the ground.

The cat up on the tree.
A dog on the ground-
Unable to climb-
The cat a witness.
As the floods
Sweep away the dog.

The cat up on the tree.
Smiling.
As the dog is drown
In the water-then,
Disappearing.

He ran up the telephone pole,
He did not tell us why.
He stayed there all the whole day long
Though, to talk him down, we tried.

He sat there and he meowed all day.
It was a pitiful sight.
We begged and pleaded and offered treats
And cajoled with all our might.

We had all but given up
When our little girl, who was so small
Stood under the telephone pole
And up to her cat she did call.

" Get down here right now !" she yelled
In her most indignant tone of voice
And damned if he didn't jump into her arms
Because, obviously, he had no choice.

She may have been the smallest one
Of the family that this cat had
But she was the one he held in esteem
And he didn't like her mad.

DOG DAY AFTERNOON

Old hound takes a nap in the shade of the trees
No pep, no sap, no afternoon breeze

He's much too lazy to chase the neighborhood cat
Who sauntered on by, and smugly sat

She taunts and preens, this feline brat
Hound opens one eye, scratches this and that

Too lazy to notice the bothersome cat
So Miss Cat curls up to take a nap

The hound, the cat, snooze side by side
Till the afternoon sun bids the day goodbye

Old hound wakes up, yawns and stretches
Miss Cat wakes too, her behind itches

They groom, and lick and scratch their fleas
No modesty, they bathe with ease

Then the hound stands up, with change of heart
He starts to growl, that's when trouble starts!

Miss Cat perks up, the tables are turned
She attacks full force, her neighbor is spurned!

Now things are as normal, as they can be
Old hound chases Miss Cat...right up the tree!

The Lord of My Garden

The Lord of my garden has just come in from outside to the house
He muffles a noise, a growling of sorts, as he is carrying in a mouse
He lays it on the floor, it is very stiff, no longer moving or breathing
I am sure he slays for enjoyment, because he still needs his feeding
After food, cat is sleeping, slightly twitching, I think he is dreaming
Imagining his next victim, captured by sharp claws, dying, screaming
Outside in the undergrowth, sighs of relief from beleaguered mice
Gossiping together in the daylight, they agree that my cat is not nice
The birds whistle a song from the branches on high, all safe for now
Soon they will all scatter to dark corners on hearing his mighty meow

Please St Francis

St Francis gained a friend today
As our lovely cat passed away
Please Francis warmly greet
Let him play and dance your feet

He has been a friend for many years
His grave was blessed by family tears
He was sent to you to share your love
To sit your lap in heaven above

Today the cat passed away
For another place to play
Many tears on pillows tonight
And empty bowls at first light

Tubby Tabby

I know a little tabby cat
her fluffy tummy slightly fat
She wobbles as she jogs along
I worry, is there something wrong

My worries are now put aside
that tabby cat now lies with pride
amongst her little kittens nine
all asleep in one long line

Fishy

The cat crawls
The cat growls
Fustration, preadation
Fishy, fishy swimming in the tank
Come fishy, fishy I won't hurt

The cat crouches
The cat pounces
Fishy, fishy you are mine
My, oh, my you look divine

The cat sleeps
Not a peep
Fishy, fishy you tassted good
You didn't scream
Like I thought you would

Cats!!!!!!!!!!!

No one has ever had a full title or deed to a cat
If you are nice, some of their time you will get
They only like certain things to eat
You think that you are the boss, need to re-think that
They will let you know who is the boss, so don't forget
You favorite chair will become their seat

A cat has a soul you will never claim
They are as independent as a hog on ice
And a mind that belongs to no one
After having one, you will never be the same
Spoiled now, they used to catch mice
Can make you madder than anything under the Sun

They will let you pet then when they want to
They will scratch you when they damn well please
They bathe themselves, water is the foe
Forget about orders, they are going to do what they want to do
They do lazy with the greatest of ease
When they want something, they will let you know

Not like an old dog that always your best friend
In his eyes you can do no wrong
But still people have a cat around the house
And that can be a battle to the bitter end
They think that is where they belong
Not at the barn, catching a mouse

Orange Cat

Just an ol' Tom Cat
dirty orange in color,
Rummaging like a rat
through filth and squalor

Painfully moving with an obvious limp
and a single eye from which to glimpse.
Orange cat advanced with a hesitant skimp;
so sorrowful a cat I haven't seen since.

Confused and frightened
I could sense his pain.
Sorrowful and disheartened
He began to fain.

Without value or worth,
abandoned and alone,
he searched from birth
trying to find a home.

Such a dreadful place
to see suffering like that,
in the trash and waste
where I found orange cat.

He struggled with broken limb
and to not ease his strain
would have been a sin
for anyone who could help him.

Giving him worth and value
I cuddled him in my lap,
providing affection anew,
he loved me for that.

After a hard fought struggle
he died that night.
In the warmth of a cuddle
he ended his plight.

The Spotted Cat..

The Spotted Cat..

The great spotted cat stalking high on a mountain cliff.
Looking for miles for hers next victim.

It will not be long before she sees her prey.
Then she will swim down the mountain and swipe her prey away.

Kittens to feed over by the hill side.
Mama cat drags her meat quickly before there is
an animal fight.
