Sphanus Marcus Book 1
Canto 5
Verses 6 and 7

Duke Saint Charles knew King Richard’s mind was closed
and nothing he could say would change resolve.
To cold foul weather they would be exposed;
must he have life around the king revolve?
This heinous decision now might dissolve
joint resolution gaining James the throne.
As aide to Sire, indeed it might involve
the decisions of others made to loan
their weight allying needs to covert scheme well sown.

" This be unmitigated horror, Sire,
to sail the Middle Sea this time at Yule.
Contentious gales from northern heights do mire
good enterprises; be not, Sire, a mule!
Do I not suffer 'Mal de Mer' and pule?
Such sail gives me bad stomach ache and puke.
You know that I can't take much ridicule.
Should I at sea endure our Sire's rebuke?
Duke Morley's knight for thee or take Lord Marmaduke."

Alone figure stands,
On sunsets rock.
Summers hot breezes brush,
Against bare skins flesh.
Stalking the ageless path.
Behold histories Indian brave,
Man, and horse intertwined.
Symbiotic beings joined,
They are one.
The spirit rider gallops,
Across freedoms trail.
Cautiously, allying arrow unto bow,
Aiming swiftly his shot to kill.
Guardian’s raging bull charges,
Forward.
Protectors sacrifice, blood mingles,
Amongst dust clouds aftermath,
His majesty lies slain.
Dark brown eyes close,
Glimpsing blue sky for the,
Last time.
Heavens prairies, welcome destiny's,
Honorable foe,
The hunter kneels beside the giant's,
Stilled heart,
Giving thanks, singing chants rise,
Ascending heights greener,
Pastures unto a higher plain.
It echoes in valleys deep,
Touching the lands of his,
 Fore fathers.
Tonight beneath flames tribal fires,
Rhythms beating drums, gives praise,
Many shall celebrate, feasting,
 In memories tribute,

The Man In the Podium

The man in the podium has anything to say;
He can promise a better future or curse the present day.
Employing  dirty tactics; either by blackmail or a lure;
He’s allying with the devil for the simple crave of pow’r.

All eyes to this fellow; all ears to his every word
He has the art of an orator that no one will get bored
So critical of his predecessors as if they hadn't done any good
And the harder he’d be hitting the crowd would applaud.

He’d say: “I’m the best among the bests you folks could ever choose;
I shall alleviate the least; I’m a defender of their cause.”
False promises and charisma bring euphoria to the crowd
That the rivers shall have bridges and the mountains shall have roads.

“ I’ll be a better planner if I’ll be allowed to serve
And that the smallest of the voices surely can be heard.
The wealthy shall be friendly if I’ll be privileged to lead
And the poor man shall be alienated from the old life that he lived.”

His speech can be so touching like the message of the Lord
Piercing the heart of every audience like a two-edged sword.
Then I talked to a sensible fellow; He’s just given me a cue
That the man in the podium is just too good to be true.
