We ate the watermelon right down
    into the rind
    even though Mom said it might
    give us a belly ache.
But the cold, the crisp
    antidote to summer
    added that one chord of
    bitterness to make it sweet.

The seeds were missiles.
    "Dad started it!"
    we alibied when scolded.
And then the picnic table tipped over
    'cause we forgot and
    sat down all at once
    on the downhill side!

Lucky we had already ate,
    'cause the food and plates
    and all of us ended
    tangled up together
    on the smiling grass.

Premium MemberLet Me Live

let me live
don't burden me
with more than I can bear
don't coerce me
into believing things
from your reference point
I'm tired
let me live

these decisions weigh me down
the expenditure of thought
analytical thinking
that goes against the grain
of my compassionate heart
taxes me
it comes at a cost
I'm tired
let me live

my struggles with myself
are in and of themselves
hidden land mines
in the battlefield you call life
I'm maimed
walking wounded
looking for that fox hole
in someone's heart
where there's protection
from whizzing bullets of doubt
don't trouble me
with trivials
when I'm only on survival mode
let me live

when I'm of sound body and mind
come to me then
I'll have energy to spare
emotions to expend
and a clear functioning mind
then I can give ear to your grievance
and play arbiter
but not now
if you care
let me live

my life is ebbing
chronic emotional fatigue
alibied by my smile
please be kind

let me live
I only have
this one life
to
live.

let me live

From the Dead

People were dumb like cake made from fruit
When Jesus they wanted to persecute
Ad hang Him on a cross until He died
Always having an excuse and alibied.

Why would people ever want to insult
Jesus by saying it wasn't their fault
Then look out of their window sill
And see Him dying high on a hill.

Number on him came to a total of three
Friend of Jesus one wanted to be
Talked to Jesus and was pleasant and nice
Then said, "You will be with me in paradise."

According to the very latest crave
Which was being buried in a cave
Out of respect to what had been done
Was so dark and couldn't see the sun.

Up to see His Father Jesus then went
And God understood what Jesus meant
When He stood up and finally said
Thank You for raising me from the dead.
