There is a little Pirate Girl,
Her name is Captain Alanna,
She wears a Jolly Roger on her hat,
And she loves bananas.
She sails on a Pirate ship,
Across oceans and seas,
Swashbuckling and hunting treasure,
In between having afternoon teas.
No other ships or crew are safe,
When Captain Alanna sets sail,
They see her ship on the horizon,
That’s when they tremble, then turn pale.
If anyone makes her angry,
They’re made to walk the plank,
She hides her treasure on desert islands,
It isn’t in any bank.
She prefers to drink apple juice,
She’s not too keen on rum,
A happy pirate girl she is,
And hardly ever glum.
With her crew she’s bossy,
She calls out “All hands on deck”,
“Arrrrgh”, they all reply,
Then whisper “Oh heck”.
There’s a parrot on her shoulder,
A patch over her right eye,
She’s ruthless with her cutlass,
Enough to make grown men cry.
Afternoon naps are forbidden,
She sleeps when she’s ready,
Snuggled up with her trusty sidekick,
The one that she calls Teddy.
Both France and Australia were nil-nil until extra time when Aussie Alanna Kennedy’s misdirected header during a corner kick produced an own goal for France. The goal was disallowed for a foul inside the box by a French player. But Australia had more than luck on their side. Aussie goalie, Mackenzie Arnold, was a force to be reckoned with. The vanquished French coach Herve Renard said, “We came up against a Goliath of a goalie.” Then all it took was the late substitute Cortnee Vine to calmly convert the winning penalty kick. For the first time in their history, the host team Matildas are in the World Cup semifinals!
Vine’s PK winner
Matildas’ goalie Arnold—
France shown no merci
So, Miss Alanna, you aren't the only one inside,
and you thought I, was some uglier guy.
You should look around, there isn't much time.
I'm as ugly as they come, and I'll keep You alive.
Oh, Miss Mitsopolis,
you're the deadliest kind.
You conceal cold steel,
butterfly, on your thigh.
With a flick of the wrist,
You won't blink an eye.
Oh, Miss Mitsopolis,
You make grown Men Die!
The sun shines but darkness is all I see. Nothings been right since the day you left me. I stay numb so I don't have to feel. Every second hits me that this is real. I've searched for genies one wish will do. I just want one more day with you. Not one second would I waste showing you I care. No one gave us warning and this is so unfair. I was suppose to be first as your mom we knew. We shared a heart beat the 9 months I carried you. 18 yrs I wanted more time. I hear you voice I look but never find. How do I go on when it hurts just to breathe. Your not only what I wanted your someone that I need. Alanna I'm scared every night that I sleep. The nightmare of you leaving becomes my every dream. 2 and a 1/2 months and I've hurt everyday. When it comes to getting close to me I just push them all away. They say just remember she's in a better place. But I miss you baby your laugh your face. Your sisters need you just as I do. How do we do this , a life without you. I pray that your happy and finally free. And now my baby who watches over me.
The room lightens as she walks in
all the movement around her stops
a lapse in time creates a transclucent glow
she is what they all want to be.
Breathless are they as they take in her beauty
her innocence draws them to the ground.
a child of six with everything in front of her
so many journeys to take and things to discover.
In awe and envy of her youth
they yield to her every movement
allowing her to reign over the entire room
she wonders what is so captivating about her.
Little does she know that her innocence is overwhelming
to those that lost it so long ago.
Soon enough she'll know the feeling
when she experiences how it feels to grow old.
