Robert Burns knew schemes.
Like all of us,
His vanity
Lent him an illusion
Of control.
How did his wisdom come?
Did his head fall beneath the trap?
The cat is away, time to play.
What's dearest to your heart?
A night in paradise?
A glass full of lies?
Maybe a vision of ladders
Climbing closer to your treasures.
Come now, come now,
Free will, will reveal the maze.
Starving for peace,
Our plans
Unfold like walls and cul de sacs
Before us.
Hunger for control,
Needs too deep to fathom:
I am the master of my destiny.
And of course, we're right,
Right as rain.
Our destiny, our plans "gang aft agley."

Oh that in truth I might report to thee
a love that swells and rages like the sea.
Forsooth I state this missive as a plea,
that thou not turn thy face away from me.
A noble spirit takes not any glee
in knowing that within it holds a key;
this wounded heart can never now be free
excepting by the words of thy decree.
Oh let it be, that I from thee might flee
not like a bee, that darts beneath a tree
too blind to see, who bends upon one knee
to pay his fee; annoying little flea!
My ramble run, the end is all agley,
mayhap I should inquire dost thou agree?

I plurm and glorp with every breath
My existence defies and deifies death
I splurp and glomph amongst your days
Indistinguishable from mud and haze
I slig and slorg, a dark breamy blaze
with unctuous vim I sleam through your days
and go about my large gorptious ways
Slimy, I slawl in shades of grey
leaving glossful drippings to mark my way
and make your life gang aft agley
as I spream and slorl in spurious ways
and glurm and gleep with hideous gaze
I sleam and glort in vorptious dark ways
‘Til you come undone
And my sporphing’s won!
My job’s complete – I’ve sprunked your flaze
My job is done, I’ve gronked your days!
