Advocator Poems

Premium MemberIf it wasn't for poetry

I am unsure if there's some general word I am going for, but it best fits into the mix, and that would be, 'inspiration.' Having that said ... straight to the heart of the matter ... my mom.

Self-driven, accomplished, multi-talented, advocator of The Word, loving daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, aunty, grand and great-grandmother, and lastly, not a stranger to people kind of a person, more like, "Is she your mom!", kind of a people person, ... and kind too.

Her talents beyond The Word were in music. She plays any musical instrument, from a tambourine to an accordion, and the organ to the drums. Practically everything in between like a harmonica, but her ace was the ukelele and guitar.

She composed hundreds of songs, wrote all the lyrics and accompanying medleys.

Today, her compositions grace many churches in the country, besides Hawaii, since she traveled a lot being an Evangelical minister.

If it wasn't for poetry, I'd be a 60's year-old kid who never had a mom.

Advocator For the Poor

I WILL nor retreat until I climb the HILL
No MATTER the intelligence of man I’ll do BETTER
I’m KING of the poor with a strong WING
I FLY with super strength bestowed from the SKY
Can’t FOOL me though, I didn’t attend political SCHOOL
Like ROYAL princess attached to Jewellery I remain LOYAL
Peoples RIGHT I fight for and bring to LIGHT
Despite ALL, I’m a gem that will not FALL
To BE blessed ,I think is to be FREE .

Pretty Nikaya

She is diligent and gracious
in her trade which has a stigma,
although pleasant and vivacious,
she started like an enigma,
many find it hard to believe,
~her companionship is a relieve.

Blame her not!for it`s not her fault,
Being raped at twelve by an unknown
dude,due to her parent default,
struggled to survive on her own,
after demise of her parent,
Abused again;which is aberrant.

Left alone at very young age,
exposed to wickedness of men,
Her perception was full of rage,
her self-esteem was dented,then;
but at last!,she walked right through it,
New disposition boost her outfit.

She is not to be called a whore,
Her intelligence and traits tried
to pull off this garment she wore,
call her a vixen then you`ve lied,
This dame is ~contrast to her trade,
redemption and change came as she prayed.

Pretty Nikaya,she`s being named
for her prowess and pretty face,
In a coup d`etat she was framed,
but vindicated without trace,
Marriage with kids is a nice feat,
senate house is now her place of seat.

~~~~~She `s now a senator and an advocator for women empowerment~~~~Hmm!what a great woman~~~...
Fela Kuti,A Maverick
A legend who created the Afro-beat,
Sent to read medicine,but opted for  music,
Advocator for the poor,who refuses defeat,
He uses his music to strengthen his physique.
He fought against corruption by leaders
A legend who created the Afro-beat,
His songs traveled like an eagle with strong feathers,
To correct the ills in the society is no mean feat.
He lost many things in his struggle for bright lit,
homeless,orphans and poor he feeds and elevated,
A legend who created the Afro-beat,
He was tortured,imprisoned and humiliated.
Many tried to weaken him by making comments which are oblique,
Yet,he remained an ambassador for good work and seat,
The father of Yabis and king of the Talakuta republic,
A legend who created the Afro-beat.
*A quatrain with a refrain in line 1 of verse 1;line 2 of verse 2;line 3 of verse 3 and line 4 of verse 4....
*Yabis-means making jest of people,government and situations of life.This was created by Fela Anikulapo Kuti.He also named his shrine Talakuta republic where he entertained people/fans with his music before he died....
