For you are nevermore.
Your eyes' last light
never illumined mine.
Death prompted us
to be hasty -
curbed childhood,
sped me past stop signals,
headlong onto adult carousels.
But we must agree over how these hours are
moving against our wills.
I've remained still until here,
grasping a rumpled-up grocer's receipt
with this budget-buy, multicolor pen
confident of words
I have space to admit now
and bury in poetry's
kinetic cemetery.
I'm sure I loved
your faulty teeth's scattered English,
its determined guidance.
I wished my life
had been adequate
to cover your shortfall
as you had covered mine
back when I was all but novelty.
In the end, a wire coat hanger
formed an effective solution
not elegant,
then neither was my first car
to which it was inserted
in the spot where once
a snazzy electric antenna
would rise and fall
as the radio was activated.
The reception just adequate
for the inadequate speakers;
Halfords specials,
clumsily mounted
on the rear parcel shelf
bracketing the nodding dog.
Major Tom
fighting against
my grinding gear changes
on my way to Brighton
on four wheels
for the first time.
Societies Haves, Have Nots
We all have something we hold close.
A memory, a fear, a dream we don't say
Tumultuous. A clearly audible and we all
have not adequate time to fix everything we
Wish we could. We have enjoyable days that
Lift us up. We have not the affirmation they'll
Linger.
But we keep shifting because pausing never
Anything preferable.
We have people who loves us, even if we
Not recollect to notice. We have not the
Faultless words to explain what hurts inside.
We have brawn we didn't know we had until
Life constrained us too far. We have not the
High living of choosing every confrontation we
Face.
We have hope, even when it's miniature.
We have not the map for what's in-store
But we walk regardless because that's what
Humans do.
who isn’t you
wise readers
will know the difference
I want a narrator
more unsettling
than Nabokov created
for ‘Lolita’
I want a narrator
to cringe at
while sympathizing with
I need “milk plus”
from ‘Clockwork Orange’
while I learn the dialect
of Anthony Burgess
before I ruin Beethoven
It takes sustained energy
to hate a character
while never forgetting them
“My vanity
was the cause
of it”
I still wink at you,
Moll Flanders
a woman too clever
for shallow understanding
My “androgynous mind”
will have to be enough
for adequate love,
Virginia Woolf
I have all the worst intentions:
devious dialog
with peppered,
cutting
fashion statements
to make phantom readers
laugh and scowl
Cruella Deville
taught me everything
one late afternoon
in August
while we hunted swans
over toast points
and caviar
Through the ages
monkish chapels have erected alters
built from human skulls.
Mystics have understood
that such morbid displays
can lead to a fervor
of jaw-dropping moments.
The human skull reminds us
that death leaves its own gravestones.
Besides,
such boneyard objects de ’art
simply beg to be made into candle holders
or useful paperweights
additionally,
a dislocated mandible
serves as a most adequate rest
for a lit cigar.
The world is my oyster
The veil mine
The pearl i am
The pearl am, i
A sanctuary to slip away from the glare of society’s so-called gaze and to elude from its shame
The world is my oyster she said
But I claimed the veil as my own
Is it shameful to look at yourself in a way others do
Is it frowned upon to change yourself in a way others do
Even when the change feels phenomenal
I found it hallowed, I found it new, pleasing
The world remains their oyster
So i changed in the defiance of others
I endured in spite of others
I am pleased behind a facade
One so meticulous you can't define it
The world is my oyster i said
However i mourn the lack of adequate to be the pearl
The shining pearl, protected from the habitual pressure and
the suffocating air of proprieties
The world is my oyster
The veil is mine
The pearl i am
The pearl, am i
Boom! something happened
Something said a thousand times
Running up, ready for action
but as always, nothing really happened
As always it's quiet,
always cold and lifeless,
lonely
and it gets old
Every morning i wake up
invigorated, excited
it lends to the
the anticipation
the adrenaline, nerves
shaky hands
all absent
instead it all leads to nothing
to disappointment
with all the beers drank
Cigarettes smoked
laughs shared
the faith to raise an ego
is it adequate?
is it truly just fraud
an imposter even?
tell me
what will you do?
when it's loud
explosive, and warm
New, even
when Boom! Somethings happened,
and for real this time
the birds make sounds I cannot imitate
I have tried, but alas, my mouth is not a beak
I have decided to trill, peep and whistle, I need one of those
chee chee chee we we ooh ooh ooh
whee whee whee craw craw craw
And yet, no matter how much I try,
I do not sound exactly like they do
There are no adequate words in the English language
I listen, and learn, and try again and again
But without a beak, I am an inadequate imitator
I dig
My target throws sigh
But to clobber siege
I need to ping
To erect distinctive peg
You dig
Looking far the bridge
You seem having edge
You need go far-flung
Where is your colleague?
We dig
Best groove to clinch
Driving with efforts much
To elevate our urge
Need endorser(s) to bag
They dig
By virginal strength merge
Pledge-driven set them step-on-the-gas
Success to make marks
Not adequate of gang
He digs
Striving to reaching for star
Thinking of going faster
There is an adage
Stop thinking of dotage
Backup the seeming fig
She digs
Deeming it so overlong
Curiously wants to dodge
Wishes for early log
Ends up in marriage
He's enough an energy
Two thieves stole some apples, as much as they could carry,
and divvied them up in a dark cemetery.
As they counted them out, a man taking a stroll
thought he heard the Lord and the devil dividing up souls.
Fearing that there was something sinister,
he ran to the church to go get the minister.
Meanwhile, two apples rolled down past the gate.
One thief said, "Leave 'em. What we got here's adequate."
Back came the good men and to spy they tried,
but ran when the other thief asked about the two outside.
Did I exist before I came—
To Time’s reluctant Door—
Or was I but a voiceless Name—
In Silence—evermore?
The cradle of a Nothing vast—
Where neither Breath nor Form—
No Heart to quicken—nor to fast—
No Memory—to warm.
Yet here—I stand—amid the Grass—
The Moon—observes my stay—
She lifts her Lantern as I pass—
And will—when I—decay.
If Death returns me to that Place—
That hollow, unbegun—
I must bestow—while in the Race—
Some kindness—til it’s done.
Compassion—like a secret Fire—
Illumes the darkened air—
Empathy—becomes the Choir—
Where none—may yet Despair.
The Sky receives my trembling Word—
It vanishes—like Rain—
But Love once uttered—will be heard—
Beyond the mortal Plain.
So let me weigh my brief Estate—
As Stars record my Breath—
And make my Living adequate—
To justify my Death.
Neither adequate experience nor knowledge
Attention to detail is essential to faith
Individuality bows to the group
Vanity should be dismissed
Engage and embrace God
Futility is the fruit of deception
Authority must have its foundation
Intimacy with God is central and essential
Time must be given to the object of our faith
Holiness is the fruit of true faith in Christ
1946 United States authorities

and forcibly relocated 167 Marshall islanders
King Juda he agreed as their voice
from Bikini Atoll east to Rongerik
a small island which adequate resources lacked
with the promise they would return
so much for the U.S. Right of Freedom Act
and with little regard to radiation or fallout
the beautiful coral lagoon's sad fate

twenty-three tests in all 'til 1958

Blood rushes behind my eyes. Ocean waves
crash as I turn my head, tilting to get a better
view of you. But that’s impossible, isn’t it? No
view is adequate. How should one look at David?
My lips are dry. I’m fainting, surely. Cells melt
and mix, transfixed as you walk by. Unknowing.
i found a quiet place for me
i created an end unit at the tail end of a favorite beach
i have you in my arms as a perfect dream come true
love comes from unexpected placed at times
now i am a fan of rare happenings that make me smile
i found a quiet place for me
i created a perfectly constructed balcony that will catch every sunrise over the ocean
i have you sitting next to me with a smile that can warm the most frigid weather of life
love comes out of nowhere and forces you to open the blinders of your heart and mind
now i am a fan of rare occasions that broadens my philosophies of life
i found a quiet place for me
i created a space with panoramic views that feel like life rehabilitation
i have you kissing me with lips so soothing like an adequate cure for the peskiest headache
love comes from left field sometimes to remind the whole self about what really feels right
now i am a fan of rare times when my mind is appreciatively blown
