You'Ve Been Hurt
You've Been Hurt
I know your heart’s been hurt
so many times before
I see it in your eyes
this pain comes from your core
You protect that softest place
that you harbor deep inside
encasing it in an armor
this tenderness that you hide
You’re quick to raise defenses
and assume there’s ill intent
forcefully building fences
expecting constant repent
Chorus:
I understand this kind of pain
that makes it hard to see
I’ll help you stop the pelting rain
if this can set you free
Crying soul you must begin
to try to see the light
Not everyone is evil
or does things out of spite
Love is what defines us
and bonds your soul with mine
Finding faults in everyone
just widens the divide
The crevice grows in depth
each hurt just makes it widen
making it harder every time
to see to the other side
Chorus: (repeat)
Look with a forgiving eye
upon those you choose to judge
Perhaps intent was full of light
not something to begrudge
Our souls are cloaked in human skin
imperfections simply inherent
Choose to see the light within
though not always apparent
Chorus: (repeat)
