Your Calling

I must admit that the subject of 'favorite artist' causes me to pause. It is because such a choice to me boils down to the words "Who and When". This matter is very attractive to me because I am frequently tuned in to the artist that speaks to a particular matter or subject presently facing me, and as a result, there is so much flexibility that I am more concerned about entering than I am about placing in this contest. Moreover, it is much too interesting a subject for me to pass up because I am inspired to write about it. In the past, that artist would have been one person or group, but last week, today, or tomorrow, it could be someone totally different. For instance, a couple of weeks ago, I was asked by one of our pastors to speak on a subject of my choosing in a pre-class devotional. The direction of my heart was toward someone, or more, who was feeling a sense of their career or calling 'slipping away' which brought to mind a song produced many years ago. So I would have to say that my most recent favorite artist is Simon and Garfunkel. I have found their song, "Slip Slidin' Away", most interesting and defining. There is a line that says, "You know the nearer your destination the more you're 'slip-slidin' away'. And another line, "She said a good day Ain't got no rain She said a bad day's when I lie in bed And think of things that might have been." I believe that God used this song greatly in enabling me to encourage people who needed to hear words of life that would inspire them to 'not quit' but to live on, love on, move on, and keep on doing their best to live up to the calling that God has placed upon their lives regardless of any adversities. So, for this present season, and I do not know how long the season, Simon and Garfunkel is my favorite group based on one song that speaks volumes about being hindered in life but not allowing anxieties to rob us and render us helpless in going forward with our lives. 111019PoSoupContest, Your Favorite Artist, Chantelle Anne Cooke, 2P
