Young and Wise

When we brought you home, you were already wise. We could see it in your eyes. You taught us the best time to give you lunch. That an old box is all you need, you know that much. You were young but you were wizened. But still you had your vision. Now, we hug you for the last time. You let out one last chime. We look at your face, so sunken in. Your fur cannot hide your paper skin. We expected this pain, we knew all along. But still, we hoped we were all wrong. You knew it too, but you know we are blessed. You know we love you more than the rest. And you are giving us a test. Teaching us mercy, within this mess.
