You and I
You and I,
women, though they’ll
tag us and bag us
“feminists.”
Okay, but you and I
are power, don’t you
see? That beauty you
wear in a exhausted smile,
those wide, curious eyes
have stared for miles
into a world
built for men.
I’ll say it again,
for my dear friend,
the difference is more than
we can ever begin:
Blindfold your mind,
for just a moment,
envision darkness,
remember those shadows?
Remember the echoes?
Those are artists suppressed,
Can you hear their whispers?
I look up at my bookshelf
and hear soft whispers,
many of them are men,
men I admire and adore,
though, there are a few
who scream out
grating every nerve...
it’s a woman writer...oh?
Who would have known?
