Yesterday's Tears

Yesterdays tears I've tried so hard to make the best of life, in spite of the challenging highs and lows, the highs, made me happy to be alive, the lows, were a mental and body blow Childhood's supposed to be a happy time, where children learn to feel safe and secure, at least I learned about God's love sublime, and for human frailties there's a cure I've lived a life full of torture and pain, but, in between there's been blessings and bliss, contrasting emotions from which I've gained, a new perspective when I reminisce. I've learned so much from so-called wasted years I've cast aside, all of yesterdays tears. May 29,2019 John Derek Hamilton

Most of your poems are over my head intelligence-wise. This simpler one is a great poem!

Thanks Hannah, I think the first time someone mentioned it's over their head intelligence-wise...I really try to simplify things but I guess I have to keep working on that, I appreciate your thoughtful comment and visit!

Yeah that song is the soundtrack of my youth, but I did speak truth when I said I've left behind yesterday's tears, that is the only way for me to cope and reconcile the past. Thanks for the nice visit!

Thanks Sandra, sonnet are easier to me than other forms, I enjoy rhymes so sonnet is a nice fit for me although it's hard to work with a forced structure.!

Sometimes, what we think of as wasted years, turn out to be the very stepping stones to our greatest epiphanies in life. A beautifully moving sonnet, John, with a potent couplet for an affecting finale. Your heart shines in this brilliant reflective piece inspired by a great song. Congratulations on your wonderful win, my friend. Warmest wishes always ~Susan

Shall we forego the fact vs. fiction question to focus on the poem? Naw, can't. Whether true or not, you obviously grew to know no years are wasted - loved the line '... so-called wasted year', perhaps you learned that despite appearances your path was in divine order, as I did. The poem - it is great, truly, and reflects what the writer shared his song was about. I picked the same song, always have loved it and I wrote the feel that grew in me while reading his explanation of the lyrics.

Thanks Cay Cay for your brave first comment, maybe others will follow your lead. Unfortunately this is a true reflection of my life, but as you said divinely lead is a great way to sum it up. I think all could learn from and rise above life's difficulties leaning on our Creator for strength. Now I have to go and check out yours!!
