Yesterday's Mistake

Finding forgiveness for foolish fights my heart, tends to overrule my head. And although I should've known better, I chose to believe the words you said. You swore you'd never hurt me again; begging me to please unlock my door. And now you plead for just one more chance; like you have, so many times before. I try to convince myself you've changed, that you suddenly care how I feel. But, although my heart wants to believe, many open wounds, refuse to heal. Memories of lies and betrayal still haunt the outer fringes of hope. And dealing with fragmented feelings; I am not so sure my heart can cope. I want to forgive, but can't forget, some things, even time can't erase. And when the silent screams resurface; fantasies and nightmares interlace. I'm scared of taking you back again, I have a difficult choice to make. Do I bet on tomorrow's promise, or gamble on yesterday's mistake?

I know ~ that's a difficult one. But, in the end, forgiveness heals both sides. ~memories of lies and betrayals still haunt the outer fringes of hope.~ Those lines so perfectly define the dilemma Emile. Lovely poem.

Emile, your words ring so true, once words or actions are said and done, it is hard to forgive as it takes a very strong person to let it go, I have experienced hurt also, so I know this feeling well, you have captured these feelings well in your poem and thanks for visiting my poem Black and White Print, much appreciated ~~

Broken wings can mend, flight has not been taken from you, your poetry will provide the catalyst your soul needs and soon you will soar with eagles once more.. Emile.

Sweetie, sometimes it hard to listen to your heart and use your head at the same time, but in these situations we must do our best to do both... Wish you all the love you deserve... Hugs.. Arlene
