Years of Time
"i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go . . . "
ee Cummings
my tiny heart skipped
in faint pulses of darkness
the day you closed your eyes of life
(my lips pressed against your cheek
as i tried to kiss you awake)
i heard your whispers of comfort
fading through my sleep
your heart's rhythm
living in the shadows of mine
(when my heart couldn't bear the pain)
through all of life's hurdles
and endless pathways
that left me shattered and breathless
(i've always felt you lift me up)
your hand on mine against my chest
carrying me along
these years of time
have burdened me
and death again
has drawn a line
(tempting me to follow)
this fight that fate has given me
is not a battle i'll fight alone
(it's my turn to carry you)
your strength will see me through
for even in my weaker days
i still feel you near
lingering in every breath i take
(my heart still holds you here)
'without legs to stand upon you always carried me along, your heart in mine, now i fight against your killer, carrying your strength, my heart beating strong, with you still tucked inside"
