Writing Something Worthwhile
I hope, my friend, I’m writing something worthwhile
If only one phrase, a line, a word worthy of your file
Something that will make you say, “Just my style,”
And put on your face, for a few moments, a smile,
Hopefully, I won’t write anything you think juvenile
Or, God forbid, any verse or two that seems hostile,
For then, I suspect, you might send me into exile
Or toss my feeble attempts to write poems into a pile
With a terse note on the top that labels them vile,
In any eventuality, I shall continue efforts to compile
For sitting and writing, I think, beats walking a mile!
