Would Not Be Lost (Ekphrasis In Couplet Form)

Moving to the beat of a Spiritual dance Floating to the grace of a Spiritual trance Finding our way through a Spiritual door The creator knows what we are dancing for To a Spiritual warrior who is a chosen one Apache Warrior was feared for things he done They took raping their land as no joke God knows I truly do admire them folk Fight fire with fire and instill some fear Fought for their land they loved so dear He fought for his land and his way of life White man slaughtered his children and his wife Honest people defeated by the white mans lies Forked tongues with an endless supply of alibi’s Praise be to the Elders who paid the cost To ensure their heritage would not be lost ----------------------------------------------------- Inspired by T.C. Cannon's Apache Dancers

This is a wonderful poem..I have a special feeling for native americans..we spend part of our summer on an Indian reservation in northern California..they are trying so hard to hold on to their traditions.

Michael, This poem is beautiful. The big problem between the conquistador's and Native Americans was communication. The Europeans, (Spanish, French, English) had a concept of land ownership, just as we have today. The Native Americans did not understand that concept...thus misunderstood treaties. It is a horrible past. Here's some interesting information. Mesa, Arizona is on land that the Pima Indians were given as part of their reservation. They own the title to it... Thinking, Dane

The Native Americans had good values. How sad it is we destroyed both their heritage and the land they fought to preserve. Lots of people today still talk with "forked tongues." Excellent poem, Michael! Love, Carolyn

Wow. There is no stopping you! Incredibly excellent write to go with an amazing painting! It hurts as I read this exceptional couplet, filled with the embarrassing truth of our part in destroying such a beautiful culture. Awesome Ekphrasis! Love, shar

The Native Americans definitely got the short end of the stick, sad but the way of the world. Braver men never lived. God Bless. Ron
